Anyone else sim taking ages to load?

Since yesterday and install of WU8 it takes ages for the sim to load up. Yes I have a large community folder but it was still faster before yesterday. The loading bar seems to go at a crawl.

Anyone else had this issue?

Yes, and with a photogrammetry on the FPS dropps to 1 (one) FPS when clicking ā€œFLYā€. No problems with photogrammetry off.

Yes, even with zero mods. It’s really slow to load but it was always like this in my opinion, nothing new.

i would Really suggest using only addons you need for each flight, i know its popular to just throw them all in there but … its bound to cause issues eventually

as we (modders) learn more it may be less likely but going thru some of the mods i use many are incomplete or simply not up to date
some have the wrong ā€œcontent_typeā€ and many dont have the ā€œtotal_package_sizeā€ comment etc
they work like this but ā€˜may’ cause delay in loading, hangups or maybe even memory issues
im as guilty of these ā€˜shortcuts’ as anyone, mostly from lack of knowledge, the more i do the more i see how these minor appearing items that ā€˜work’ may cause some problem

If your using more than say 10-20 mods in any given flight your exposing yourself to lots of unnecessary 3rd party code that ā€˜could’ bork things

to answer the question at hand - No i have not noticed this problem
i like and use AddonLinker, i would suggest everyone look into something of this nature to help with stability as well as start up times

Seems a bit faster if anything. Not by much, mind.

Hmm strange. I am not using add-on linker but I may try it on my second drive.

Everything loads slower the first time you load it in. I’ve noticed this after any update I do. Every subsequent time is faster than the initial. The only thing that still loads slow for me is FSDT KORD but I also have Chicago landmarks so it’s a lot to load. Doesn’t bother me.

Can we leave the mods in like for example the airport textures, lvfr ground traffic at airport?

I tried the MSFS.bat file to try and load the Sim quicker, fully updated the sim now takes 4mins 27secs.
But for me, the MSFS.bat file didn’t make any difference.

I only have FBW and one skin in the Community Folder, and Newcastle Airport extra.

Window 10 pro 64
Ryzen 7 3700X
GIGABYTE RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB GAMING OC Pro
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (DDR4-3200)
Gigabyte 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe ( PCI-Express 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 interface )
Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE ( Dual Ultra-Fast NVMe PCIe 4.0/3.0 x4 M.2 )
MSI Optix 3440 x 1440

What helped me in the past when I ran into that issue - try deleting the content.xml file and see if load times improve a little afterwards.

If you say you have a large Community folder and you generally move a lot of stuff around over time, that file might have become a little chaotic.

You will find the file in the main MSFS folder:

C:\Users[YOURUSERNAME]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe

That last, wild number-letter-mess after the underscore might be different for you on your system.

That’s if you have the Microsoft Store version. If you have it on Steam, I figure you will find it in the SteamApps folder.

So after updating to WU my load times have increased. Just for reference, from when I click on the FS icon to get to the main menu took 2 min 22 seconds. How long does it take you for when you select the sim until you get to the main menu?

I’m usually just over the 3 minute mark to the main menu. Its being pulled from a Samsung 970 Pro NVMe, so I’m sure its not storage related, more to do with addons. I don’t have many though.

My load time hasn’t really changed. I still use this command line in a batch file to start MSFS:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App ā€œ-FastLaunchā€

Same here, it skips those movies at the start.

My load time from selecting the sim until I get to the main menu took 2min 22sec. Seems longer than normal, what times do you guys get?

I don’t feel like it changed after the update. I still have time to clean the house, watch a movie, go to medical school and discover the meaning of life before I reach the main menu.

So much for buying an expensive SSD.

Yes gained a few minutes after the update.

Without any addons loaded, it takes 3min. 38sec.
This can go up to 6-8 min. depending how many addons, mods and libraries I activate to load.

It definitely feels like it has become a bit slower.

If you’re looking at the first start of MSFS, it will take longer than subsequent restarts. I work a lot in the SDK and ADE so I make changes to airports. My wife says that I spend more time making changes than actually flying, and that’s true - the ratio is probably 4-1 in hours spent. Anyway, I timed my first start today and it took 4:05, but after I exited and came back in, I was at the main menu in 1:48 – maybe MSFS is like the old TSR’s I wrote back in high school.

And absolutely, you need to use a linker app. When I’m flying in California or Colorado, I don’t need to load any Caribbean scenery. And on update days, I can’t say for sure whether having technically nothing in my Community folder helps, but I enjoy carefree updates (I’m on Steam).

But to answer your question, the load times seem normal to me.

Mine is 3 minutes now. With a empty community folder it is about 2:22 minutes.
