Anyone else spend a long time on the world map trying to decide where to fly?

And then by the time you end up figuring out where to fly and begin your flight…you have to stop because real life calls.

I guess I am having a hard time trying to find purpose to my flights. My imagination used to be enough, but now, I need a little help trying find purpose or an objective.

I have tried some career addons but I didn’t like them. Too convoluted and complicated. Would much rather a native MS career and ranking system of some kind.

What does everyone do to immerse themselves and give purpose to their flights?

I just love the world map , I find myself just staring at it watching the clouds move , look where the night/day fades and some lightning flashes … its really cool, they did a great job there.

For finding places to fly, well everyone is different. Some people might so to flightradar24 meteoblue and seek out interesting weather. Some look at aviation youtube videos of interesting approaches or scenic flights. Someone created this useful tool for straight up random flight generation https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/random-flight-generator/270848

Sometimes you just need to step away for a while until you get that urge to go fly!

It is really a bit of a lottery

Some location like Victoria Falls are a real disappointment ( nothing like real life hopefully someone does an addon) and others like Milford Sound turn out to be down right amazing.

Depends on how you use your sim. For airliners, I start by going to flight aware and checking out the live map for some inspiration. YouTube videos of flights can also inspire some locations.

Decent community. Assignments give you a location. Build a virtual bank account.
But if that’s not for you, there are other similar platforms.

I agree… I find myself doing that - first thing I check however is where my friends online are flying. I really think the friends list feature should be reworked in a way that when you select a friend, the camera will pan to their location. Often I’m searching the globe trying to find them!

I like to try different airports that show up on flightsim.to. They are usually interesting and unknown to me.

Check out the post “Random Flight Generator” on this forum.

Try NeoFly good value and it’s free

No, I generally know what i want to do.
If it’s a multi player, i usually have a flight plan that i load in.
If solo, I have 2 different things i’m currently doing, around the world hitting every country and another hitting every state, both using only GA aircraft. I track it all using a mod/addon.

Nope, I start from a location then decide how long I want to fly for the day. I’ll then pick a direction, find an airfield withing my time range, then fly. Rinse and repeat, never picking the same place twice. I traveled half the world doing that and it was just amazing and saw so many cool places.

The problem with asking people where to fly is that a lot of us want different things from scenery. I even love flying in outback Australia even though there isn’t much there. The textures can be awesome then you find a little runway or town that is in the middle of nowhere. Very cool.

I wish I flew such places when I owned an aircraft, I stayed too close to home.

Fly from your local airport and give purpose by saying im going to do a tour and plan every route etc… hell… make it up. Just pretend your going somewhere to pickup friends or something. Anything right

@Sharpe2603 You can check out my app if you like. It lets you setup a random flight based on a search criteria. Select the range, region, airport type, etc. and it finds random interesting flights for you. I made it because I found myself doing the same routes all the time, and (for me anyway) I find the economy addon’s a bit of a grind after while.

Just pick an area at random and go.

If you like prop, be sure to zoom in world map to see and select the really small strips. I had a hoot flying the tip of Argentina. Brutal winds, great views

One of my favorite things to do is imagine myself as running an air shuttle/taxi service around a specific region, carrying rich tourists from island to island, or similar. You can also take skiers from Denver to either Aspen or Telluride. Check the weather forecast before trying Telluride though - it’s a challenge in clear conditions!

You can also do something similar between business hubs. Where practical, avoid the major airports. For instance, when flying from Green Bay to Chicago, fly into Midway instead of O’Hare. The smaller airports are better suited to GA than the bigger ones.

Look at NeoFly (free) and SkyPark(payware). The latter has a fun random option. Roll the dice and see what the job is!

I really miss the fsx style missions. Gave much more purpose to the sim, put you in a bunch of really cool aviation experiences with great dialogue & world events in a variety of locations & in a variety of aircraft.

In the beginning of winter in MSFS- when we first had snow- I scoured the globe for snow. Now, as I sit here with 1m of snow outside of my door, I’m scouring the globe for nice, warm places to fly where my jet doesn’t freeze over like a Popsicle…
