I’m disappointed that there wasn’t much in the way of specifics for Career mode.
The bugs that affect the successful completion of missions and payouts.
These basic issues that perpetuate since day 1.
If there are fixes coming in SU5, we’re still none the wiser.
I love all the new aircraft coming to the sim, the focus on avionics in the AAU portions and another WUpdate.
I would also have liked to know what frequency we were likely to have more dev twitch streams.
Makes me wonder, do the devs ever survey this forum ? There are numerous threads on weather issues. I and many others tuned in just to hear update on weather improvements. I mean a mere acknowledgement that weather needs fixing would have gone a long way. We can wait. But not like this. Extremely dissapointed.
Hello @Pilotfirst9999,
The intent has always been to have a Developer Livestream approximately once every two months. We know it’s been longer than that since the last one (October 2025), but Jorg addressed this during the broadcast today. Basically, it was a perfect storm of events:
- If we had kept to a two month cadence after the October session, the next livestream would have been in December 2025. However, during that month the team had no available time as they were 100% focused on launching MSFS 2024 on PS5 and also releasing Sim Update 4, the Stranger Things expansion, and the Boom XB-1. After this, the team took a much-deserved vacation for the remainder of December.
- In January, the team were catching up from their holiday break.
- We could have done a livestream in February, but instead we planned to host a session in March live and in-person from the convention stage at FSWeekend, so it didn’t make sense to have a session two months in a row.
- Unfortunately, due to a health emergency involving one of Jorg’s family members, he was unable to attend FSWeekend, so we had to cancel the live Developer Q&A session.
- That meant that this month, April, was the earliest we were able to host the session.
We understand this is not ideal, but there were some extenuating circumstances that led to the team going longer than we’d like without hosting a Developer Livestream. We hope to return to our regular every ~2 months schedule going forward.
Thanks,
MSFS Team
Did they mention triple monitor support at all in the stream?
Not a single word. I asked in the stream too, at the appropriate Question times.
I’m.hoping because the bugs are logged there are fixes in the pipeline, so they don’t need to talk about them. Fingers crossed
They disappear and reappear due to LOD issues. I imagine they also want to address the incorrect behavior of movement and cluster spawning.
And hopefully “fix” this properly:
Still seeing ships at odd angles half in and out of the water. Also rotating on the spot.
No key bind for Nautical Traffic Lables either. Can only be controlled in settings.
Hi folks,
As we announced several months ago, we renamed the former Development Update blog to the “Weekly Briefing”. That didn’t mean we’re retiring the Development Updates, though! Based on your feedback, we’re now publishing a new Development Update whenever we have lots of new dev information to share, for example following a Developer Livestream.
Here is the first of the new Development Update blog posts. If you watched the Twitch broadcast today you won’t find any new information here that you haven’t already seen, but we’re hoping this will be a convenient format for those who were unable to watch live (or who prefer text to video) to quickly get caught up on all of the information discussed during the livestream.
Please let us know if you have any feedback or comments about the new Development Update blog format!
Thanks,
MSFS Team
Personal Comments and Observations
Three SUs for 2024, one SU for 2020. The writing is on the wall, as reluctantly as it is for those still wanting to stay in the old sim…
Really really appreciate the blog post summary of the Developer Livestream - HUGE help when you want to see what was discussed, but might not have the time to go through the video - thanks again!
I also submitted some questions but none of them were shown =(
One of them was also about weather. In a nutshell: Why can’t we have light to medium rain without it completely killing the visibility? This makes no sense as in real life you can definitely have light to medium rain with reasonable visibility.
Just because I want rain, doesn’t mean I also want what essentially amounts to fog.
Flying in rain in VR can be super immersive, but I also still want to see the scenery!
I’m surprised people don’t talk about this more? Does no one else feel this way?
Nothing about bushtrips?
Jorge said about a year ago they’re working on something.
Honestly I’m disappointed by Asobo. Game has been out for almost a year and a half by now. We do have bug fixes yes, I’ll give them that. (Bare minimum considering the atrocious state the game shipped and stayed until SU4) but what about new features? (Or even old one like bushtrips that were in 2020) Career revamp? Weather? Even basic QoL features like saving world map filters, better traffic? Better ATC? …Even better AI voices?! Nothing?
They are working on planes and marketplace stuff. (You know, stuff they can sell to their customers to get more money from you) Such is the way Microsoft works. Squeeze has much as you can
Asobo is extremely lucky to have such dedicated 3rd party developers and fan base
They were mentioned. Not in massive detail, but Seb said SU6 or 7, to which Jörg was quick to say when they are ready, so I’d not expect it in either of those.
He said they are being developed internally at Asobo.
Jörg was very positive and excited about them.
For me it’s a silver lining; less updates means less potential issues.
But I must reiterate as this is the discussion topic. I for one am not feeling that everytime we try to bring up the conversation about WEATHER DEPICTION we get Seb talking about CFD dynamics. What good are dynamics if there are no towering clouds to fly by in any jet above FL 180? They are literally all wisp of clouds…
Furthermore, why does he always go back to presets? If we wanted to discuss preset weather we wouldn’t need live weather. If the case is that you want to glorify presets, open it up for third party app developers, or bring experts in weather depiction like the team at Hifi. Its utterly ridiculous that we get no attention to this when the main simulator competitor has leaps and bounds better depiction and even aerodynamics on what we spend 100% of the time doing in a simulator.
Nothing about live weather, what a disappointment. I’ve had many problems with live weather at high-altitude airports. This affects my RNAV approaches at some high-altitude airports in South America, specifically in Peru. I’ve had problems with pressure, temperature, and abrupt changes during approach.
Seb’s deep dive on airflow visualization was very interesting but on a related topic are we ever likely to get wake turbulence on Xbox X?
We’ve never had a way of enabling it in settings but we now have a way to turn visualization on to confirm that it isn’t present although our own a/c CFD is, to a limited extent.
So.. 2020 had crisper and far more realistic ground textures than 2024. Instead of fixing the second highest bug on list being blurry aerials, they instead released su16 for 2020 and destroyed that quality.
6 months later, they refer in passing to the blurry ground item for 2024 (second highest item on the table) and skip right by it
Jorg’s “not sure how much you’re still following this” statement when referring to 16.1 release at 5 minutes into stream should tell you everything you need to know if you were holding out hope for 2020 to return to its former glory. “2020 is the stablest it’s ever been”.. Of course it is, you gutted the visuals! (Terrain, lod, height field making cliffs into smears etc etc)
Then to sugar coat the rest even though he admitted later than 2020 used to look better at his favourite location that what you can enjoy now (jeez you don’t say), I now hold no hope that Asobo will undo the catastrophic damage done to 2020 with su16. Sad end to a legacy and erosion of credibility.
Then as salt in the wounds, pushing su6 for 2024 to before su17 despite the 2000+ extensive feedback to su16 is a disgrace I’m sorry.
Can I respectfully suggest open source su15 code of 2020 if there is so little care or attention to be provided to what was once a triumph of development?
