For those of you who want change in the weather. Please view this topic I created where I showed the storm around the St.Louis area. How it was portrayed in MSFS, how it’s impossible to recreate it with presets and a bunch of examples, and source data for them to work on. We need votes, it’s the only way they will pay attention to this.

Hi!
This is showing the 9000 series AMD issue as fixed in SU4 (in the bug notes). It wasn’t, a temporary fix was applied in SU5 beta. Has something changed here and the fix has become permanent (otherwise it’s not actually fixed!)?
Thanks
Rob S
Dreadfully inadequate responses from the team regarding Live Weather, same tired words from Seb about thunderstorms that he said years ago. It’s now absolutely clear that they have very little interest in improving this absolutely vital part of flight simulation, yet another disappointing Q&A.
I don’t think anyone should be surprised, the promise to support wasn’t a promise to actively develop - it was clear that the newer product would take the majority of resources, the same will happen to 24 once the next title launches. And I say that as someone who is stuck to 2020, it’s fine as long as bugs and downtimes are fixed in a timely manner (though I do wish it was used more as a testing ground, I’d really use World Hub here)
@weather: I wonder if the talk about presets wasn’t a hint-hint nudge-nudge about the team’s current ability to make big changes to the Live system, and offloading this to add-on devs like AS
And the same goes with 2020 also ![]()
Agreed. Also hard to miss the fact that Wishlist items that should represent BOTH sim versions have status updates that appear to be limited to MSFS 2024.
In FS2020 there is no new ‘Partially Done’ for Item #2 to ‘implement weather and terrain APIs…’
In FS2020 there is no new ‘Partially Done’ for Item #3 to ‘improve AI traffic at airports and in the air’
I’d be VERY surprised if Item #5 for ‘Shared Cockpit’ or Item #7 to ‘Open up the weather API’ is in any way ‘Potentially in the Future’ for FS2020!
In FS2020 I doubt much has changed for Item #8 to ‘enhance API to access all … functions’
In FS2020 there is no new ‘In Progress’ for Item #9 to ‘remove ground vehicles from active taxiways’
In FS2020 there is no new ‘In Progress’ for Item #21 to have an ‘on-screen indication of sim rate’
In short, this Wishlist is nowhere near accurate for tracking what is happening in FS2020. We need separate STATUS columns for FS2020 and FS2024. I believe seeing that side-by-side status comparison on the Wishlist would go a long way to clarifying what we all suspect about the actual future prospects for FS2020!
(Also note the quietly ‘closed’ FS2020 topic of ‘Disappointing mountain terrain’)
The way Jorg talked about the UI issues was kind of disgusting ngl. Brushing it off as if our complaints were just “it’s too gamey” when in reality it’s a disaster with text cutting off, loads of wasted space, messy keybind menus, unresponsive, no way to adjust size, missing filters from 2020, still no hide/favorites in aircraft menu, clunky and thumbnails all over the place. Also in the previous dev stream they said they were working on it and now apparently they aren’t? What are they even doing?
This thread feels like 90% are complaints. To be fair, some of them are justified. But why not celebrate something like the new weather radar? People have been asking for it for years and now that it’s announced no one is even talking about it??
As someone who has not a lot of issues with MSFS it’s really deterring me from visiting the forums. It’s just so much negativity in these type of threads
Well, I do hope the message about the weather had been heard. It should be abundantly clear to the devs that they can’t just simply go on ignoring the topic or trying to divert it to to presets or more CFD visualizations.
I see on the wishlist that optional streaming is “partially done.” Can anyone tell me if they mentioned this during the broadcast? Many people on the forum, including the MSFS/flightsim subreddit, would love to see an offline mode like the one in 2020, which was released shortly after 2024 launched, and what happened with it. We’d like to be able to play in case of an internet outage, just like we could in 2020, with limitations of course, but it’s a world of difference compared to not being able to run it outside of that gray screen.
They also mentioned something about everything that happened with SU16 in 2020.
In part, it’s probably human nature to look at what we didn’t get instead of what we did get.
But it’s also because those of us who are the most intensely curious about what is being done to improve the areas that are most impacting our ability to enthusiastically enjoy this product (poor LOD terrain, inaccurate or incomplete weather systems, buggy ATC and AI traffic systems, the downgrade of MSFS 2020, etc.) follow these development streams very closely, hoping for, well, hope and definite answers.
The people who are enjoying the sim as-is, where one of the few things they have maybe been missing is a weather radar, probably don’t follow these developer streams or forum discussions as closely, though they may still find the stream and these discussion threads a few days or weeks later.
Indeed. The ones whom invest so much time into the forum I assume are predominantly the ones engaged with these dev updates too.
So very deflating when something like the sheer amount of regressions done to 2020 is neither recognised in the 7 months of forum feedback since nor in this long delayed opportunity for Asobo to show they do indeed still intend to action any restoration of that sim.
“Not sure how much anyone is still following” after su16? Yes Jorg.. yes we are..
World Hub feels a bit left out/left behind at this point. Certainly as it was announced as one of the great new features for the sim and user contribution for the last few years. With al the bug reports on ‘broken’ or bumpy airports we see come back every now and then I can’t understand how it seems to have been shelved for the moment.
Interesting thought, till you look at the potential results of trying to do that, and what would happen , or could not happen.
To Paraphrase a famous line by Alice, in the Wizard of Oz “What would you do with open source if you had it” ??
Who out there could make a NEW Build of MSFS 2020, with any likely hood of an overall improvement .. and the few that might be able to pull that off, why would they be interested in undertaking such a enormous task, with almost zero ROI.
Actually, I can only think of one person, Bill Gates, (as FS was once “His baby” , but he has probably got enough on his Plate, with Windows 10, 11,& 12. etc etc
I suspect the best thing the FS Community can do is, to do all they can to support Asobo (and by extension MS), and trust that they will do the best t, they are “able” to do, that is in the interest of the FS community “as a whole”.
I have a feeling that the question about the UI rework was misunderstood. (It was not my question so I can’t be sure of the original intent, but I have a hunch.)
The problem with the UI is not only that it’s “too game-y”. The visual design is fundamentally nice.
The problem is as with the Settings page and the Marketplace, all demonstrated: wrong usage of screen space, not clear enough. The aircraft browser is a special sore point, not enough of the aircraft or their variants can be seen on the screen, it’s a chore to browse and scroll anything.
Also, the UI is generally too slow, not responsive enough, loading times in the Career mode are incredibly long (just choose a mission and wait for the briefing to load).
So while visually the UI is nice, the arrangement of different menus and the performance of the whole front-end is far from satisfactory. In my interpretation this is what the question was about, not about being game-y or not.
I would like to give some positive feedback about the MP. The part where Jorg mentioned how they might exclude certain dev’s if they continue to be less than clear about their products.
Also the changes that will take place in the star feedback system.
That’s a massive boost for customers confidence in what they are about to buy is what matches the statements about a product.
Plus, PS5 players will start to get products.
Thanks for attending to the MP but, sorry to slap in a minus, I also agree with the above entry about the UI. It’s too unwieldy even in the representation shown.
Great dev stream can tell from the body language and vibe these guys are committed. Radio silence anxiety gone.
Career mode getting some love and heavies holding up the release so we are all set for some jumbo 747 cargo, Ancourage and Honolulu here I come, I’ve saved up 800mio for some Queen of the skies
The native ATR looks spectacular I hope the sounds are also more punchy. Nice work everyone ![]()
You have to bear in mind that the ground visuals are not created by the sim, they are taken direct from the satellite images used on what was Bing maps and is now Azure maps. They didn’t make the ground blurry to improve performance. The data that was being supplied to the sim changed resolution when the source changed and thus became a lower quality. It’s the old saying - rubbish in, rubbish out. If they only have low resolution satellite images taken in a particularly dry autumn, it’s going to look yellow and brown and generally not as nice as the better images that were taken during a wet spring. Nothing they can do about that really
If Bing belongs to MS, or I assume it does, why can’t they use up to date Bing maps where I assume tech gets updated and improved images are available?
