Seems to me that messing with live weather means loss of performance and they are reluctant to do it…….
Well it’s not Bing any more as Bing maps was shut down, hence why 2020 had to move over to Azure for SU16. The issue I believe had something to do with the tile size that Azure uses compared to the tile size that Bing used. It’s the same images but the Azure tile size reduces the resolution and makes the images appear blurrier
Aah, thanks for the explanation. I hope Azure has a way to improve that but I suspect then it would affect FPS?

What’s the point of celebrating a feature that’s useless because you can still fly straight through a thunderstorm, in a C172, with realistic turbulence, with great ease…whilst that same thunderstorm still looks poor with no towering etc etc
Their reluctance to properly understand Live Weather failings has been going on for years, this Q&A on that respect is extremely disappointing.
Guess we’ll have to wait for MSFS2028…
Also disappointed about they again ignore live-WX. Yes, LIVE-WX.
No point in showing updrafts in pre-set WX with density levels never seen in live-WX. Presume most simmers use live-WX. But for some reason Seb reverts to presets again and again.
We want dangerous WX: CBs up to 40k (not puffs up to 15k), better cloudscapes, cirrus clouds(not the flat puffs we have now), iceing, in-cloud turbulence, updrafts but also DOWNdrafts (CBs usually have updrafts front, downdrafts aft), turbulence buttom of cumulus’ etc etc.
No point in a WX-radar with tilt if clouds in LIVE-WX are just for looks.

Boeing have approved the PMDG 737 for training purposes but it’s only for practicing panel flows rather than any actual flying
It’s true that PMDG doesn’t have a 737 MAX for consumer use in MSFS at this time. That doesn’t mean they do not have one for professional/commercial use available only to Boeing.
That’s a MSFS2020 picture. I am willing to bet they can not line up the side monitors correctly in 2024 like they did for those ones in the pictures ![]()

I moved this myself out of the SU5 Beta specific thread, regarding a weather related posting there.
It’s the elephant in the room, and the feedback we get is usually one of the following. For the record this same pattern is observed for any number of contentious issues we have had in the past.
Act like its not happening.
Say they cannot replicate.
Misunderstand the issue.
Asnwer a question that was not asked.
They seemingly refuse to acknowledge that one of the sources of our current predicament was going from what we had in 2020 SU6 to the METAR bubbles injected into Meteoblues globally simulated/predicted weather.
It’s a significant reduction in qualilty that they will repeatedly refused to even acknowledge. They must have come to dread these dev updates now as they will know there will be a ton of weather related questions that they will do everything in their power to bat away.
For the record I have not watched the dev update myself, but I have read lots of other users responses to some of the anwers given to the relevant questions, and it doesn’t make for good reading.
I believe this was the update in question, or one soon after at least.

That’s another topic they refuse to be drawn on. I have long suspected contractual obligations won’t allow for this, and that would be a frank, and open admission that everyone would lament, but at least understand.
I’ve just been looking through some older posts of mine, as I knew I created some imagery that reflected what I see a lot of time, comparing to what we used to get, and applications that ASFS can give you on demand, at least most of the time.

Yes, you can get closer to the top image if you use weather presets, but I want that in Live weather too. Large banks of clouds, with more varied shapes, and densities. They have to understand that taking another hard look at weather, acknowledge what they have lost for years now, is very important.
It’s long but worth ploughing through. About live weather, the one thing that stood out for me amid all the temporization was the discussion around a lack of sensors. What weather gets generated is derived from weather forecasts that are then augmented with METARs or what not; but there is no network of weather sensors providing direct input to whatever code generates our “live weather.” As someone who follows the weather outside the context of flight simulation, weather forecasts as well as weather reporting leave a lot to be desired, in general. Not a great real world data situation for flight simming. Thoughts?
Actually, one of the most exciting, educational, and revealing experiences I had in MSFS2020, was to fly a C172 into a Hurricane , and to experience the initial brutal turbulence as I entered, and then to find myself in the STILL CALM of the eye, looking down at relatively flat water, when all around the eye, at the surface , I could see the water getting steadily more disturbed, as I looked towards the wall of the eye.
And then (the fools attempt) to try to climb up out through the top of the eye, in a steep circling bank, without getting to close to the turbulent walls, TRAPPED until my fuel ran out, and then certain death by drowning, or sharks.
WE so NEED “sharks” in MSFS2024 – they had them in MS ASPIRE years go !!

I though that MSFS “live weather” was provide to MS as a SERVICE of weather DATA state information from a complex weather analysis & forecasting model, the data being supplied by Meteoblue (all very propitiatory, with the raw data hidden from MSFS users , as it is used by MSFS, not for general user data collection etc etc etc
Meteoblue is the primary meteorological service provider for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS/Asobo), supplying the global 3D modeling, forecast, and observational data used to generate live weather.
That reminds me of a test I had planned to look at. Find a location where you are the farthest from any METAR station. In theory the weather there should be derived entirely from what Meteoblue are providing, without being affected by METAR blending.
Do the clouds look different there, compared to being somewhere closer to a METAR station?
We kind of knew that.
This has been discussed in length 4,5,6 years ago. Seems they receive a forecast from Meteoblue 4 times a day - each 6h long. Details unknown… Forecasts are highly complex calculations. Presume Meteoblue has some supercomputers doing their work. This is injected into the sim. Adjusted by metar info etc.
Tbh, I think the WX has been more correct after it has been corrected by local metars etc. Remember all the wrong cloud heights we had before. Discussed at length. Wrong visibility. No precipitation when there should be etc.
At least the correctness of WX is improved. Also compared to that ‘other sim’ I have, which often has WX that is simply wrong (although good looking at times). So I give Meteoblue credit for that.
What we lack is better cloudscapes, fronts, CBs, TCUs, turbulence, up-/downdrafts etc in LIVE-WX, imho.
I believe you gave the long form version of my post, thanks for thinking that through! In any case, weather forecasts from a vendor provide the input for the sim to generate what we end users see as “live weather.” That there is no network of weather sensors out there in the world providing direct input to the sim to generate our “live weather” is the crux of the matter, as I understood the live stream.
