Are players asking too much?

Sorry. The edit time is infinite, or until the thread is closed. When you post, it is posted. The ten minutes grace simply prevents the edit flag from being triggered at the top of your post. If your post was hidden or in some way ‘protected’, we would not be responding to it. Just make sure that what you want to say is what you post. Not hard.

If it was indeed invalid to cite then it would be disabled.

Sure. And you can go 140 when they don’t snap you on camera, trespassing speed limits.

This is not law, it is what people (once in a time long ago ?) called “etiquette” or politeness.. Let’s regard the whole issue as a fundamental difference in mentality between me and CristiNeagu regarding online social behaviour ok ? (why are you so involved.. what’s the significance of your complaint about my complaint about something.. just curious )

it’s an obligation for a successful product. it is one of the reasons FS has been a success over the ages.
And because most part of these free (and payware) addon developpers have a huge knowledge of simulation and aviation, with ten’s of years of experience, not just a few month and some friends well placed in the bussiness. these addons developers have make this success, as much as FS dev.

I agree with you that the sim to date is a marvel. I cannot imagine giving all this up to go back to FSX prior state.

I don’t think people are asking too much… they are equally excited to suddenly (relatively speaking) having the new sim after many years of it being stagnant. Sometimes over enthusiasm can emote frustration due to having to limit your choices, like a child in a candy store with only a few coins worth of selection available.

The proper balance between bug fixes, enhancements, wishlist items, and mere fascination in seeing flight photos in action should continue to be the order of the day. Keep out of angry or hostile topics, give proper credit and respect where due, and when some constructive criticism is needed, please do so with respect and mutual kindness.

While flight simming has its commercial aspects and is a livelihood for some, this is FUNdamentally a hobby (albeit a serious one) for most people, and still deserves a respectful existence.

Ever think about getting into the FAA-approved version? Precision Flight Controls has some pretty nice approved X-Plane sims that might add some challenge to your flight, as well as adding the ability to actually log your sim time.

Here is one such certified simulator using the Reality XP GNS 530:

There’s nothing wrong about asking for more. Many users are going through performance instability even if they have a system exceeds the system requirements. Then there are people with lower system hardware and they’re reporting its working fine. I prefer more realistc flight than a video game for actual ground school training.

I only wish for A2A aircraft in my hangar.

I have a new high end pc so performance is not an issue. Flying only small GA aircraft limits my aircraft issues. I can patiently wait for Live weather to get ironed out. So…

I’m good!

Bring on that Comanche!

Bam! Put The stick deep into the hornets nest :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I have a question by the way…

Yes! And I thought I was the only one banging on about this.
I would go even further and say, lets be honest here, lots of TPD’s are circling the MSFS 2020
cash cow right now - and not for reasons of altruism.

For me, one of the biggest pluses for adopting MSFS 2020 as my simulator of choice is the fact that it is [bugs aside] good right out of the box. No more ORBX et al shuffle for me!
So I am very keen to see MS/Asobo develop all this potential TP stuff themselves, thus keeping
everything in-house.
It is my hope that one day MSFS 2020 will develop into the worlds first fully integrated, home flight simulator.

Addendum:
My views as expressed here, legitimate as they are, are somewhat at odds [to say the least] with the majority of posts in this thread. But I welcome any criticism that is reasonably expressed.

Nobody said anything about wrong to ask.
About WHAT to ask,is the matter.
The first comment on my topic, says it all

:joy: Cute indeed

So let me understand this, you are saying to be able to run more realistic add ons you would be prepared to dial back on the realism a bit because otherwise your PC might not run the sim with this add on properly which may require you to upgrade the PC what then costs money?
Thanks for demonstrating my point so well.
(helmet on)

In response to this, I’d say I don’t want more of anything for free. And I support the philosophy that MS/Asobo should just focus on the core sim and leave all the scenery/airplane add-ons, etc to third party developers. That’s not to say they can’t provide one study level aircraft and certain highly detailed scenery areas. But I’d rather MS not get into ongoing development of add-ons.

I think it’s a better use of everyone’s resources and time for MS to just focus on improving the core sim and the community can decide on which add-ons they want to purchase. The demand for those third party add-ons will drive the development of them. This is basically how it’s always been.

However, take live weather for instance. It was MS/Asobo’s own decision to NOT open up the weather system to TPDs, so imo, they now OWN the full weather experience we have, good AND bad. If the majority of people aren’t happy with the weather system that MS is not allowing TPDs to improve upon, I wouldn’t say that asking for more realism in that department is asking for too much, or wanting more for free.

So in response to the OP question, it really depends on what aspects of the sim you’re looking at. For me, one or two study level aircraft and a few highly detailed hand crafted scenery areas is reasonable. The weather system needs to be accurate though too, because they own all of everything going on in that department.

Is that what I said?
I think that is what you read into what I said.

I remember that I also said this.

And this…

Which you conveniently failed to answer.

It is a given that any additional load on the computer will have an effect. (I also said this in another post) That may result in a loss of a couple FPS. Reducing LOD by a couple percent or reducing shadow textures a touch, does not reduce realism as you implied. I am not one to push my system to the ragged edge. I like to maintain a buffer. If PMDG was to release a full blown 787 sim I am confident that I will be able to run it without having to upgrade my hardware.

For those keeping score, I also finished that post with…

Well I may just do that, when city scenery photogrammetry gets improved ! Wanna see London properly !! But that is another topic of course.. I partially agree with you about the load of addins, although the sky is NOT the limit. Performance is also responsiveness.. which is not always taking CPU or GPU to the limits and may be caused by factors that developers of addins can’t do anything about, like MSFS server side agility handling status.

I don’t see what Microsoft’s servers have to do with any addons made by third parties, or vice-versa. You keep bringing this point up, i keep telling you it makes no sense, and you never explain it.

All kinds of processes are involved. What about multi-player ? traffic.. ILS.. and what about local server side, that is agility of SimConnect itself ? That’s the sandbox.. an addon depends on the MSFS executable acting like a server, it is not directly connected to MSFS. You seem to think everything involved in this type of communication takes zero (wait-) time.. realistic, zero latency.. anyway I’m not going to explain this 3x, please don’t pretend you’re the only one who has to repeat things.

No traffic addons that i am aware of are going to pull data from Microsoft servers. They’re either going to use FlightAware directly, or they’re going to use their own servers. Therefore 0 impact on Microsoft servers. Actually, they may have a positive impact since users using those traffic addons will no longer pull traffic data from Microsoft.
As for ILS, i have no idea what you mean.

Local server communication is waaay more faster than communicating with an internet server. Besides, if this is local, what does it have to do with Microsoft’s servers?

No, i seem to think that none of these addons have any sort of impact on any Microsoft server. And i also seem to think that any type of latency issues happening on the user’s computer is the user’s problem, not Microsoft’s. And furthermore, I seem to think that all of these addons have been available for quite a while now, and have been running just fine, despite the fact that P3D also has to have weather injected into it from ActiveSky, rather than using built in weather like FS2020.

You, on the other hand, seem to think that we never had traffic addons before. We never had highly complex aicraft. We never had weather addons before. And that all of these things are impossible to run on a modern, high end computer, despite people running these addons just fine since the mid 2000s.
