Asobo Pilatus PC-6 missing rudder trim

Just one more question PlumbGlue, just tried the ski version and of course, for me, ailerons and elevator don’t visibly move as it’s a steam gauge variant. Are the skis supposed to be animated (raise/lower)? Do you see this effect? Presumably the lever next to the control stick provides for this? I do not see them raise or lower.

Yes I see them going up/down. Use the retractable gear key. They goes up when “gear” is retracted and down when deployed.

Unlock the control column, it’s locked.

Thx again , will give that a go.

How do you do that in the steam gauge version? I can see the lock in the glass versions but can find no such thing in the steam gauge planes.

Finally got all the control surface animations to show in the steam gauge variants. It does indeed seem bugged. Appears you have to spawn on a runway with everything on to get them to work. I always start my aircraft from C&D states at a parking spot, but if you do that , don’t expect to see the aileron/elevator animations in the steam gauge planes. It seems developer didn’t bother to implement the same clickable gust lock on the control column in the steam gauge variants, as is apparent with the glass versions. So if you start C&D there seems to be no way to disengage this ‘phantom gust lock.’ Starting from a runway with everything on seems to include logic to automatically disengage this lock so that the animations show. This would appear to explain why some people see the animations and some don’t, depending on their spawn method. Anyone care to confirm my findings?

Indeed a strange one this. I saw the no aileron/elevator animation bug today but the skis and rudder were working. The flight stick was moving ok. Rather than start on the runway I went to dev mode and re-loaded the aircraft and then everything was working as normal. Don’t forget that invisible tail wheel lock.

If you want the gust lock to be disabled when you start C&D, modify the apron.flt file.
At bottom there is the [LocalVars.0] section, with two lines:
change “PC6_GUSTLOCK_UNLOCKED=0” to “PC6_GUSTLOCK_UNLOCKED=1”
The same for fuel valve if you want to.
I know it’s not as realistic as having a lever in cockpit, but it’s better than nothing

Sling380 and PlumbGlue67, appreciate both your responses, very useful info. As I rarely go into Dev mode, apron.flt here I come. One may gain the impression that this pc-6 offering was humming along nicely and would have been much better, but someone somewhere decided …“it’s good enough. Has to be released now.”

It gets even stranger. Now the tail wheel lock appears to do nothing. Yesterday it was making a difference. The animation suggests it’s always un-locked.

I also noticed that even though the flight control surfaces don’t always animate the ability to control the aircraft is not affected. Certainly some quirks to iron out.

Ok i’ll try to explain about gust lock… the older porter in real life like this steam cockpit reproduction doesn’t had the gust lock lever..The Pilot have to lock the stick with Seat belts
The newest porters like the G1000 version have the gust lock lever. If you check the stick shape about steam cockpit and the stick shape about the g1000 you could see that are different! This because Pilatus factory have changed in time some aspects like this..

another animation bug, the analogue compass isn’t animated in the glass version of the PC-6. I think the oil needs changing.

Another thing is the fuel burn. It’s way too high for the small PT6A-27 engine. What I’ve researched is that the fuel burn should be about 43 gal/h on take off power and can go down to 32 gal/h at 115 kts economy cruise. I get ober 60 gal /h on take off and about 50 gal/h at 130 kts cruise. Anyone know how to get ist right in the engines.cfg? The good thing is, this plane is not encrypted. So the community can fix all the things.

The real one on take off burns more or less 53/us gal/h.

I wonder where we can submit our bug reports for this plane. Does the third party who develops it read it here as well?

So far I have found:

  • Moving faces / displays of the gauges, especially noticable at night. It’s like looking cross eyed at something.
  • The selection buttons are really bad. Only when you put your camera straight in front of something can you click it accuratly
  • The Aileron trim wheel (ceiling) doesn’t work
  • Many circuit breakers don’t work (i.e. Fuel flow, instruments, stall warning). Some do work like the flaps, which is fun to play around with! Wish more worked
  • you can’t stow the mixture cutoff blocker once you set it to high mixture. In other words, you can’t do a full shut-off correctly.
  • The interrupt button doesn’t work. / You can’t actually click it.
  • Fuel burn is too high all over the place
  • The cargo and fuel page has empty entries.
  • The cockpit sound is extremely low compared to how much noice the engine should make. Sounds more like aggresive flowing water than anything else
  • The selection boxes for the throttle, RPM and mixture are needlessly large. They get in the way of other selection items from a lot of camera angles.
  • The propellor once powered up seems animated like fs2002..
  • tail lock is inoperable. Quite a crucial aspect
  • Also, seems to drift on the ground (larger MSFS issue) but the porter seems especially movable on the ground.

Other then that, I’m enjoying it and I do hope the above get fixed it would be a shame to not improve these items

besides this, I have a user question:
How you get to use a VOR beacon or ADF beacon with the needles? As in, I can set and use and ILS beacon just fine. But I can’t seem to use the needles to point and find a VOR or ADF.

  • Avionics switch always on - you can’t turn off.
  • Operation of gust lock is a mess.
  • Battery, avionics, cockpit lights are ON when you load in C&D

Thank you so much for this solution! It works!
You should go to the Asobo HQ and tell them this solution! :grinning:

As a tail emblem for a turbine propeller plane, they didn’t find better than a piston and a rod !

yeah, I also noticed this thing…very funny!! :joy:

@Abriael this would be the best time to reach out to Hans Hartmann and Alexander Metzger for comments

My car doesnt steer right. Its not ideal but it sort of works. Seriously??
