It would be better if game developers could focus on developing games, but sadly that’s not where we are.
Unfortunately that is very true
Any news?
What country is the ATSimulations from? Is it a Russian or Ukrainian company?
Ukraine, I believe… I talked to Andrey briefly back in 2021.
Microsoft is finally getting in communication with Antonov for licensing. Not signed yet, but good progress is being made. Hopefully soon.
I don’t know where they are from. But one thing has remained. Before they bring the P.149 up to speed, I won’t buy the AN-2. I don’t support abandonware anymore.
Hi folks,
Has anyone heard anything about the ATSimulations AN-2 that was supposed to be the first Famous Flyer? It was said to be finished but awaiting licensing from Antonov, which was put on hold due to the events in Ukraine.
However, the AN-225 is under development as a local legend…which means that someone managed to secure a license from Antonov…which means that theoretically the same should be available for the AN-2.
I really hope this ends up getting released, as it’s perfect for flying low and slow over the gorgeous MSFS scenery- anyone have news?
Well, i’m not sure about what has happened to ATSimulations… might be that Andrei T. also got hit by the sanctions like some other developers/modders for MSFS, or had to postpone his operations because of the situation in the Ukraine. (for instance, dropbox and paypal have stopped working for one of my fav russian airport-devs… i just hope PP is refunding the money from the customers)
Last time ATSimulations posted on FB was dec 21, no updates for the delightful piaggio (but somehow the ghosting i had got fixed with a simupdate, after another one broke it… lol) So definately hoping Andrei is okay.
But yeah, i am definately still looking forwards to the AN-2, and Jorg mentioned that they “only” had to get the signed paperwork across the atlantic as they finally were in contact with someone from Antonov.
Unless that person turned out to be a fraud, (sorry, that thought creeped in just now) …we’ll hopefully get some updates on the AN-2 situation from the team soon.
Woof ~ Woof & Salute!
Steiny
Admittedly I didn’t know the dev was Russian- that would definitely throw a wrench in the works if they’re affected by sanctions. Hope they’re OK.
I honestly dont know what his actual nationality is… all i know is, he’s gifted in his MSFS-work and he’s got a big heart for the Antonov-2.
The signing was with Antinov to get licensing. Which of course, for a few weeks people in Kiev were unreachable.
So I am not sure if licensing is still an issue, or if payment to the developer is now an issue.
Hopefully there will be an update on the An-2 and WU10 during the MS presentation in June.
The ATSimulation’s Antonov An-2 “Colt” has been complete for quite a while (and was transferred to be an Ms/Asobo release). My understanding from a couple months ago is that MS/Asobo was again in contact with Antonov for licensing and was proceeding with a release “soon”.
Does the Ms/Asobo team have further insight if we’re likely to see this aircraft in the coming weeks or months?
If not, are discussions being held to transfer it back to ATSims so they can release maybe without having to do the licensing wrangling? I understand that the real Antonov company likely has many more important matters to work though - like the invasion by the Russians.
Note: While this aircraft was produced during the Soviet era, the manufacturer is a Ukrainian company, not a Russian one, so I would hope any concerns with blowback from ignorance are not a factor.
pretty sure it will be here in late August for SU 10
it was in the Famous Flyer category, and the only delay was licensing w Antonov - for obvious reasons.
There’s 2 planes ( 1 FF and 1 LL ) due on the 23rd and best guess is that’s one of them. I can’t wait to fly it in VR
There’s enough An-2s operating around the world, and enough interest in the plane - I wouldn’t worry about it. I still see plenty of people flying the shovelware Sukhoi jets online.
I just lost hope. Even before releasing msfs, this was announced, then after few releases by AtSim, they would finally start working on AN-2…and here we are after another 1 + 1/2 year knowing nothing…
The actual addon has been fully complete for a long time now. It seems to just be stuck in liscensing hell. Hope it made it through for August.
There’s a war on, buddy, I mean for pity’s sake.
Indeed. There’s at least two other devs, one of whom who lives in Kherson, who are still actively releasing things too.
Additionally, I’m not expecting Antonov to make this licensing matter a priority - I’m simply saying I hope it makes it in August but if not, we’ll wait until later. Also a chance we’ll never see it due to the war, as the conflict is still in its early stages and I think this is going to go on for many years. That’s life.
If I recall properly ATSims is based in Russia and the Dev has - coincidentally, or not - gone AWOL since late February…
I own the Piaggio FWP149 from ATSims and the bird (lovely bird by the way) was supposed to get an update light-years ago, it has not happened :-/
Businesses get wiped out and rebuilt all the time, not so for Ukrainian towns and villages
Correct. Andrey Tsvirenko is based in Novosibirsk. Unless he’s willing to release it for free then until the war is over and sanctions are lifted there is no chance whatsoever of their AN-2 being released either by Microsoft or by ATSimulations.
I know about the war…i’m quite near Ukraine
I think we shouldn’t be here with licensing issues, other paths could’ve been taken, but this is life…it doesn’t matter, but still frustrating.
