Same, I’ve had that happen several times, where I thought I had fixed it, and it worked fine for a few days, but then it suddenly came back. It’s so random. Same flight, same aircraft, same conditions.
Currently no problems after Update 3.
Had a flight yesterday that was flawless, for the first time no sound popping and stutters. Today back to CPU spikes again and popping
Seems like the popping again disappeared out of nowhere. Im going to try to do a flight today. Will update when i get back.
In fact, the only option for me is still to disable the rolling cache.
I did a fresh install after SU3 and had these occasional stutters again. (Rolling cache is automatically enabled.) It’s worst at the takeoff airport. I’ve done a bit of research to find out what’s causing it, but I haven’t found a solution. Some mechanism in the game simply kills everything on the system for a fraction of a second. At the moment of the stuttering > CPU peak in the task manager, and all graphs in the development graph are simultaneously purple.
Disabling the rolling cache > solved all problems. As recommended here for months, it still seems to be the only solution. (for me)
This too is exactly what I am getting, happens after about an hour into the flight on the Fenix. Have a 7800x3D, 64 Gb DDR5 ram. RTX 5090. Performance drops by 25% and does not recover even if settings changed to their lowest
I also don’t understand why customers can’t turn it off in-game.
It would be too easy.I have fast internet and don’t really need the RC.
I have it disabled (limit is set to 0.0 and cache folder is deleted) and I am still experiencing these stutters.
I had the same thing….i moved the rolling cache to a different SSD and it helped . My OS and MSFS are on the main c: drive and now my rolling cache is on d: drive. Not sure if this really solved the problem as the mainthread is still far higher in SU3 versus SU2, but it’s smoother for me the past few flights. My only conjecture is that the internet downloading/saving to the drive can now happen on that secondary ssd and not impact the sim accessing the primary drive at the same time. Cpu still has to handle all of that so maybe I’m guessing here about the ssd being the bottleneck when the rolling cache and sim and OS are all on the same drive.
Audio stutters and popping/cracking sounds are still there especially around large populated cities with lots of PG and when you’re flying around a major bespoke airport with live AI traffic enabled.
When will the audio issues be ironed out? They are related to CPU and VRAM usage, aren’t they? Nearly a year on, this game is so poorly optimised.
Well, according to the latest development blog, this: Audio popping/crackle in MSFS 2024 being fixed is planned for SU4. But it says VR so i don’t know anymore. This current topic still says under investigation. So lets wait until the next development blog to see if they will fix this for SU4 too. I’m going to debug some things later on and doing something like deleting the rolling cache. Crazy that a sim is so unstable after almost a year. It’s just sad, Microsoft/Asobo.
same for me since su3
I removed my rolling cache and over Los Angeles it was totally unflyable. Frames dropping to single digits and CPU usage went to 104%, then back to a solid 40 frames and CPU back to 50-60% usage at 29000 feet and with TOD 100 and 200 for testing
There seems to be an on going issue with horrible CPU spikes and crackling audio and stutters. Flying around Los Angeles my PC literally has a heart attack. My CPU usage spikes to 100% and the audio crackles and the sim lags. Also, if I have other tabs open on my second monitor they freak out too.
Also, not sure if it’s related but my sim loses focus to and I have to physically click my mouse on the sim screen to bring it back, This happens all by itself when I’m flying not touching anything, no reason why
Here are some things to know:
-7800x3D
-4090
-Win 11 24H2 build 26100.4946
-NVIDIA Driver 581.08
-Rbar disabled in NVCP (tried enabling, no diff)
-Windows Game Mode ON
-SU3 latest build
-Rolling Cache deleted
-All Shaders cleared
-WASM folder cleared

Just an fyi that I get these audio stutters as described. I also have the coherentgtuithread almost constantly running above 9-10 ms and spiking higher from time to time which would seem to kick off these episodes. Tried everything but so far, changing the glass cockpit refresh setting from medium to low a couple times then restarting the sim seems so far to have solved it for me. AND my coherentgtuithread now constantly stays between .5 and 4. This is an easy worth a try thing. If this works for others it could clue the devs in to a fix. 5 days stutter free so far. Give it a couple minutes of flying time after the restart to settle or update its cache files.
That’s a shame you are experiencing these issues in your system. SU 3 has been fantastic for me. i7 12000 KF and RTX 4070 ti is giving me smooth as butter performance, great graphics on global Ultra. Also getting great results in VR with my Quest 3 with some Oculus Debug TooL and OpenXR tweaks, on High End globaL settings. I hope things improve for you soon.
Up time; 2 days, 22h lol
I noticed you have virtualization enabled, which can negatively impact CPU performance. Do you actually use virtualization for anything specific? I’m asking because I had a 7800X3D before and now a 9800X3D and I keep virtualization disabled in BIOS for daily use. I only turn it on when I need to run a virtual machine.
I also noticed your RAM usage is around 50% - about 32GB in use even while playing MSFS 2024. That seems a bit too high.
hmmm, never even heard of that before. How can I turn virtualization off?
edit: I looked a bit into this and turned core isolation off in windows. Everything is saying to keep virtualization enabled in BIOS and just turn off core iso.
Maybe it’s just a coincidence but after re-enabling rolling cache all audio stutters are gone. I did three flights since making this change and all good. I flew Fenix, Learjet 35A and now I am flying PMDG 777. Maybe the game was trying to write something in the cache file that didn’t exist, hence the regular stutters. It would explain why I experienced this only in flight, not on the ground. The game was downloading new terrain files along the route and trying to cache them.
You didn’t mention your motherboard model. But generally, on AMD motherboards, disabling virtualization means disabling SVM and IOMMU in the BIOS.
