Wow, the cockpit screenshots look quite impressive. Lots of custom gauges, including PFD and moving map. Definitely will keep an eye on this!

Waiting for the DCS version so I can actually blow stuff up

Looks GREAT can’t wait…

If someone created a sim that combined the best aspects of MSFS and DCS, it would sell like hotcakes.

I have both sims, and I’m always saying, “I wish I could fly anywhere in the world, have spectacular weather, scenery and detailed flight plan navigation, and blow stuff up.”

All you need is a minimum 500GB hard drive space, a gen 7 SSD and a Nvidia Radeon 7090 XTi.

Oh it requires always online functionality

Is it releasing in today’s DCS patch? I’ve already seen content creators posting videos and streams with it for the past week or so.

Are the DCS and MSFS versions of the Kiowa made by the same developer?

No, the article at Helisimmer states that they are different teams, with this MSFS item starting life as a mod for ARMA, before transitioning into a more fully featured addon for MSFS.

The DCS Kiowa is made by Polychop, a totally separate entity.

No idea. If wags is dropping videos (which I seen) it’s gotta be at least a month or so out

The DCS Kiowa has been released as of midday today.
The MSFS Kiowa is expected sometime between July and September.

NOTE: I am only a casual flight simmer and not a pilot

This new TacFlight OH-58D is probably the smoothest conventional helicopter addon in this game - IMO. The helicopter pickup and control while in ground effect is superior (IMO) to any other helicopter addon I have (almost all of them). The precision control response of the flight model makes this addon my new first choice for a touring helicopter (I like military addons though).

I wish it came with a manual, because I don’t know how to turn off the audio warning yet. I only tried it once - runway spawn. No in game checklist to help you find anything either. I’ll have to review the DCS manuals and tutorials to learn this addon.

Audio is decent enough, like you’re wearing a helicopter helmet - i.e. It’s not “loud” like you’re flying without a headset.

This addon was worth the risk of buying the addon with no information. I like it - a lot.

I didn’t realize it was out. Not seeing it at Simmarket or on the in-game marketplace. Where is it hiding?

Ok,
2 minutes into a DCS tutorial, and I now know how to acknowledge the audio warning. I’m good to go.

That little switch push down on it to silence the alarm.

Thanks for the insight. The product page says there is an in-helo book with checklist and other capability. Is this not the case? (noting you’re saying there is no checklist or guidance)

The book is between the seats.
What are you folks doing for Force Trim?

The checklist in the book is great, but it doesn’t highlight the switches like a default Asobo in game checklist is capable of doing. One has to already know where the switch is. So for me, I have to review the DCS information first. However, I was able to cold start it after reviewing a DCS video. :+1:

Also, in comparison to DCS avionics, I’m hoping follow on updates from the developer will be ongoing (specifically the engine, rotor, and electrical monitoring instruments) . But, it flies wonderfully for an initial release - IMO.

** I’ll have to double check later, but I wonder if there is a “ground effect”. The fluidity of pickup and landing makes me wonder if it’s modelled. I’ll have to see if ground effect and VRS are modelled after work, unless someone checks and posts their observations.
