Best plane to fly into hurricane Ida?

I did 2 flights yesterday out of KMSY in a WP-3D, WoW!

The air traffic, wind and rain was incredible.

I went up to FL320 looking for the eye. Never did find it but cruising around was fun.

I do hope Asobo pulls the pin on the weather safety. It was all to easy. The weather modeling is dialed way back.

But I did see a water spout or Tornado when I dropped through a hole heading to the surface area. I forgot I took a screen shot. Need to look at it.

Graphics wise, everything was awesome.

Actually, the weather model seems dialed back so much, a 152 probably would have been fine.

Thank you for taking my post as it was meant to be. You can get away with some pretty ridiculous stuff in FS 2020 (at least for the moment) that would kill you in real life.

But then again, that’s a big part of the fun.

Flown into Ida a few times:

  • In MSFS with the Airbus A320N (A32NX) and the default Boeing 787
  • In X-Plane 11 with the Airbus A321N (Toliss)

Both worked fine but it was definitely harder in X-Plane due to (more) correctly modeled wind gusts: these will make you (almost) overspeed at one time and then suddenly (almost) have you stalled. It requires you to manage your speed in such a way that there’s enough headroom in both directions. That’s something you don’t see in MSFS.

The view in MSFS was stunning though.

That storm also made IT news:
