Black Square Steam Gauge Overhaul - Cessna 208B Caravan

Thanks it was the chip detector causing the issue. Now works ok.

well I will don’t play too much with the words, I guess you get the issue but the chip detector isn’t causing the issue, it just advice you there is chips inside your engine (it s a magnet that detect them)

“it s A component in a lubrication system that attracts and holds ferrous metal chips that may be circulating with the engine oil. Some chip detectors are part of an electrical circuit. When a metal particle shorts across the two contacts in the detector, the circuit is completed, and a warning light is turned on to inform the flight crew that metal particles are loose in the lubrication system.”

those chips usually come when you overtorque the engine, keep an eye on your torque needle (tachometer) to keep it within the limits

I recommend to turn ON the inertial separator on take off as it should be done on dusty area, this will reduce the torque power avoiding to being fast above the limit

Does the sim, or any plane, simulate FOD being ingested if you aren’t using the inertial separator?

It would be cool if soft field or dirt strips had a higher chance of damaging the engine if you don’t use it.

I m not aware of any model simulating this

Do you think we might get a McCauley or Hartzell three bladed prop on this beauty? If Nick is reading this, pretty please  Would love to see that. But it might be an Asobo model thing that can’t be changed. IMHO the four blade prop on the present Asobo model does not do the rest of this beautiful model justice.

this as already be mentionned/requested, but I guess there is limit concidering the sim loading a whole model, this model is the Asobo folder, you can 't remove a specific mesh to get another one imo or you have to mod the Asobo grand caravan EX one

Is there a way to use it w/o pods and what happens to the liveries if I do that?

Did you try this mod yet? I can’t comment about it and the liveries since I haven’t tried it yet.

well ! Updating here some news concerning FOD, I now know that the turbine Duke will be impacted by FOD, as other Black Square turbine aircraft

can’t wait to get this in the C208 aswell :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Having an issue wheremy auto pilot wont pick up the gps when set to nav?

did you switch the cdi source to GPS ? using gps’s key cdi or with the mid-continent 41-228

if you are using the gtn750 WTT package, if you are not close to the magenta line, I think you have to drive your aircraft to the gps track with the hdg then it will catch the gps

I have the same problem as @SlingerNZ . No additional WT GPS installed and even on the track it won’t pick up the GPS. In exterior view, the course indicator only shows VOR1, while in the GPS I can switch VLOC and GPS using the CDI switch, see attached screenshots.

I suspect something in AAU 2 broke something in the Caravan. Even my colleague who flies the stock G1000 C208B experiences this very problem.

looking at you AP annunciator panel your gps is off, and may fail to turn ON

do you have a AP toggle key set or do you use the mouse ? I suspect a conflicting bind

Actually, AP was entirely off… my bad. But that wasn’t the case earlier in the flight when the plane misbehaved as well.

is it a common behavior you meet ? curious to know if it was after a fast flight restart (from pause menu) with or without a world map flight plan maybe an imported one ? or was it entered manually in the gns530 ?

one thing that I m sure , with the WTT GNS430 ( + kx155) it’s actually impossible to fly a gps track, due to sim limitation … but I never had issue with the 430 by pms50 …

I’ve had a weird issue where, if you had a flight plan loaded from the map screen, the 530 will not correctly show course deviation until you toggle GPS to VLOC, then back to GPS. The course will show correctly, but with no deviation. I’m using WTT only. If you spawn in with no destination, and add a direct to it will do the same thing. It will even show the curved course you would need to get on track on the 530, but again no deviation until you toggle GPS/VLOC.

So I am currently doing a flight using a world-map generated flightplan (Direct EDFW → EDQT) with the same settings as shown above (this time with AP engaged, obviously), but the plane seems to go in some sort of Attitude (sic!) hold mode. I put it on a slight bank angle and now its just turning happily with AP engaged in NAV mode and GPS selected as source.

Next test will be with an in-game created flightplan - still not using the additional WT mods.

did you try the hdg mode then switch to nav when close to the track ?

don’t know if you still use the “newkap140” mode ? since it’s no more recommended, maybe it interfer with actual BS KAP140… I would give a try to the gtn750 aswell to see if it s gps unit issue or autopilot
trying with an empty community folder (just BS 208 and avionics ) to see if it s not another mod conflicting may be envisaged aswell

another dumb question … no active faillure or popped out fuse ?

Hmmm. I just tried do create an in-game FPL and the plane is actually trying to fight me. I turn my hardware yoke right, I see the ingame yoke turn left. I’ll now try with just the Caravan in my Community folder and report back in a moment.

RE active failures - besides the engine being at 99% health (I shortly overtorqued it on my last takeoff) I have none. I checked that multiple times as well.

It indeed seems to be a conflicting addon. She just prods along nicely now. Even took her off track and she now returns as expected.

At least it’s not any avionics - I don’t have one of these installed. I somehow suspect the redone panel textures.
