Yep I think this only apply to the 2020 version. But as the documentation is common to both versions that was not very clear..And I personaly prefer this E5 to the big garmin unit.
in Career, it appears that every Medium Cargo mission exceeds the maximum range of the BN2 (even with wing tanks). in fact, i haven’t found a single mission which the Islander can fly.
of course, the sim didn’t tell me that before i bought it (bought it again, actually, since i already own the 2020 version) from the Marketplace for the purpose of running Medium Cargo missions in NZ.
nice.
That would be up to Asobo to fix, I think.
See if there is a thread about this, and add some new information to that, or if there isn’t one, start a new one. The specific plane in this case may not matter, and a generic “Career plane doesn’t have missions compatible with it” would do.
I flew a mission in Alaska with the BN2. I have to say there are not many available unless they made more in the last few weeks
I’ve had one but they are rare (Napier to West Melton this one was). It’s a bit like the C208 but worse from a mission gen point of view. A shame as I really quite like it (I’ve done a few skydiving missions using it out of Rotorua and Coromandel).
It’s a two way fix -
-
The mission injector (Asobo) making more medium cargo missions that suit planes like the C208 (this is an existing problem). I saw someone commenting it is changing a bunch in SU4 so this could improve markedly
-
the max weight value increasing (blackbox) my back of envelope calc suggests it’s much lower than it should be but i could also be very wrong, I couldn’t find conclusive values online.
Asobo probably can’t take responsibility for 3rd party planes having lots of missions BUT the fix for some 1st party should take care of this anyhow!!

further to my Medium Cargo woes in Career, here are the range cards for the PC-12 NGX and the BN2:
both state a range of well over 3000km, yet the Insufficient Fuel Capacity error i’m getting for the BN2 is for a flight of roughly 800km or so. something is definitely wrong here.
That can’t be right. BN themselves list their maximum endurance at 1006nm or 1863km.
https://britten-norman.com/britten-norman-products/islander/
Still enough for that mission though.
Here is the Community edition version 1.2.0, as seen outside Career.
That is specified in the file “aircraft.cfg”:
ui_max_range =800
So not enough for your mission.
I don’t have the MP version, but I looked it up:
Different values again.
I have the PC12-NGX, so I looked up its endurance both inside, and outside of Career mode, and both match at 1803nm or just over 3333km. Not a world away from your image.
So I changed my unit of measurement to Metric, and now I see 3340km for the PC12-NGX, so some small conversion difference there.
I went back to the Community Islander, and it now lists 1482 which is spot on 800:
Are you certain your second image is really showing the Islander information, as the background information would suggest otherwise? The cruise speed also looks too high.
I went through all my twins, and the one that matches your image is the Cessna 404 Titan.
Please correct me if I have made some obvious error, but I don’t think you are looking at the Islander there.
Those values aren’t for the BN2 or PC12, there’s something quirky in that view where selecting an aircraft that doesn’t update those stats or image. They are for the plane that has the image displayed (pc24 and a Titan by the look?).
It’s constrained by the weight - the combined weight of cargo and fuel required must be underneath the MAX WEIGHT - say you have 2100lb max weight, and 1700lb payload, you can only have 400lb of fuel. If that fuel cannot give the range required, then it results in the exclusion.
You can see the payload in the Full Mission Briefing.
This is what I have in Free flight hangar
And this is with TIP tanks - which should be further in Nm miles = about 921 UK miles
Passenger version
This is what is diplayed in the Career mode Cargo company
i’m not at all sure. however, i had the BN selected, which in a sane world would mean that the information panel should pertain to it rather than something else. but, this is MSFS 2024, so who can honestly say?
“the TIP tanks… they do nothing!”
Yeah I know. That’s why I’m showing it. It should not show the same Nm capability. It needs a fix as does the actual distance flown by these in sim. The missions lengths need to be different.
here’s a Medium Cargo mission in New Zealand, which is where the BN2 is located (actually, it’s in Dunedin, the home of Flying Nun Records).
only 590km… the BN2 can do this without breaking a sweat, right? right?
no. no it cannot.
honestly, Microsoft, if you’re going to upsell Medium Cargo aircraft from the Marketplace through the Career company fleet maintenance menus, maybe you should check that they’re actually capable of doing ANY of your Medium Cargo missions beforehand? or if they’re not, modify your algorithm for generating Medium Cargo missions so they are capable? just a thought.
299kg of fuel, plus cargo. Perhaps the two together was more than the BN2 MTOW? Do the cargo missions indicate the weight of the cargo, in addition to fuel?
It depends on the cargo weight, 800nm is the max distance with no cargo. Once you load up with cargo you won’t be able to put in as much fuel, or you’ll be over the MTOW.
That’s my assumption, assuming nothing else is going on.
not until you’ve assigned an aircraft and accepted the mission. the problem is that Medium Cargo mIssions ranges are almost always (99% of the time) more than 600km, usually 900-1000km. it took me nearly an hour of searching to find the 590km one posted above. i frankly feel like i’ve been sold a bill of goods. ![]()
Max cargo and fuel should be about 930kg, you need 300kg of fuel and pilot will be another 75kg-ish, so that leaves you under 600kg left for cargo. I guess we need to know what the cargo weight is?
And does it actually get loaded on to the plane, or is cosmetic?
It’s not really a ‘Medium Cargo’ aircraft, it’s designed for short and rough strips and only has a very limited range. Sky Courier or another of the turboprops would be a better option IMO.
Welcome to the joys of ‘career’ mode…..
double checking, and here’s the Britten Norman Islander’s stats in my company’s Fleet display:
for comparison here’s the card for the Pilatus PC-12:
both look reasonable to me. interestingly, it does look like the original card i posted was using the stats from the PC-12 (or something similar), even though the BN2 was definitely selected.
recall, i’m getting “insufficient fuel” for the BN2 on a 590km Medium Cargo haul.
