i have to check it more
I had the same thought but I definitely have to check it more.
I could very well be imagining it idk. Doesnât change the fact itâs still there and should be eventually eliminated by SU8.
Havenât updated yet (I always wait a day or two). Lot of pressure building to have TrackerIR hotfixed. Part of me hopes that if they do a hotfix for it that they can include the colourbanding fix and save us another 3 month wait. I listened to some of the Q&A and if Iâm not mistaken they said the coloubanding fix was done, but it just missed the bus. (note to self, take screenshots or a video of my settings before an update, seems like all settings have been reset with SU7).
They are still very visible to me
Yes itâs definitely not better.
and now the developers confirmed that they found an SDR error
at some point they lowered the values from 16 bits to 10 bits
in a new update promised to fix this
And why do they use 16 bit but not 32?
because 16 bits looked fine and you get twice as much info in a 64 bit space?
Sorry, I am not an IT pro, and I have very little understanding of all those bits, but I really do not understand how it is possible to have a picture without rough gradients in 16 bit (colour depth, I mean if they talk about the colour depth) - I still remember games in 16 bit and they were suffering from gradients. Or do I confuse this with 256, 16K, and 32K colours and 16 bit is enough?
I donât know. I make the assumption that 16 bit is what they were using when most if not all of us saw no gradients. We were happy then and 16 bit was apparently what we were happy with so maybe it could be better with 32 bit but we didnât seem to think it was needed.
Seb said it was part of a transformation matrix of some kind and not necessarily â16 bit graphicsâ
Growing a little concerned. Iâve always assumed that fixing the colour banding will fix the ugly purple/green clouds that have been present since SU5. I hope my assumption is proven accurate. Also growing concerned reading about the Metar live weather update, seems to be causing âpop-inâ weather. Will bite the bullet in the next few days and get some firsthand experience.
I assume (or hope) that fixing the âglitch in the Matrixâ back to 16 bit will also fix the ugly purple/green clouds, because itâs still very annoying. If you are updating, be prepared for further disappointment, because apart from âpop inâ weather - which I didnât encounter yet, but I have only made two shorter flights and cursory checked different locations for weather accuracy - there seems to be a MSL/AGL bug regarding cloud heights, and so far I âfeelâ regression in the accuracy of weather depiction. METAR values seem mostly accurate, but the cloud coverage is far from what I would expect from the METAR and by comparison with webcam pictures.
FYI I bit the bullet and updated last night. Update went smoothly (MS Store). Cleared community folder before and re-populated afterward. I was never planning on checking out the clouds etc because for now I am living in hope of a hotfix.
So I stuck to my realtime live weather only rule and went for a night time flight in the 152 from jeromelogueâs excellent EIWT to marktaylorâs cosy EINC. Clear skies in live weather (like there were outside my window). Flew out over marktaylorâs incredible Dublin City and flew south over the Carlisle Grounds in cyranoâs brilliant Bray. Down below me at one point a Stenalink ferry was arriving from Wales, coutesy of KL791âs super Global Sea traffic AI.
Just a short 25 minute coastal hop but packed with welcome distractions. I loved it. I had the mouse doesnât spin the globe bug (5 seconds to fix). Strangely I didnât see any of my settings switched back to easy or huds popping up unexpectedly. I had a few stutters out of Dublin, but Iâm on 4K with nearly everything on ultra and I still need to clear my cache.
I get so annoyed when simple bugs spoil this sim, precisely because I love it so much when it works well.
Last nightâs short flight made me optimistic again. Iâm sure theyâll sort the METAR issue, and I hope theyâll sneak in the colourbanding fix and that theyâll get our TrackerIR friends back in the air. I just hope they do it in a hotfix and not at the end of February.
Please donât forget the poor VR souls
Yep⊠I think theyâve âbeat the devil out of itâ!
I am a VR user, but the most annyoing bug for me is the color banding. And the stars which are too near (in front of clouds even!).
For the stars, there is a tropic here and you can add your vote and a comment
waiting for a fix in the new update
