[BUG LOGGED] Color artifacts and rough gradient, clouds like oil painting

these sharp contours did not exist before the WU5… looks like drawing a cloud with a pencil…

It’s those same cloud types every time. They are drawn quite unlike any of the other cloud formations, and look smudged for want of a better word. They look like the screenshots I have seen users post when having clouds set to Low.

Was BUG LOGGED there when this thread was first started or is that new. I recall they released the two SU5 hotfixes than posted in this thread that its been fixed (even tho it was not) with no follow up - [BUG LOGGED] Clouds look like oil painting - #48 by OlieTsubasa443

Hoping the cloud issues and the continued question of color banding problems is what’s been logged. Would be excellent

Hmm I’m not sure, but they are bad, I was watching a P3D stream earlier and the clouds looked better on there. When I first got MSFS I was blown away by how much better the clouds were than P3D, so to now see them looking even similar is awful and a horrible feeling.

The BUG LOGGED state is new, so I’m really happy this has got some traction amongst the devs. I think they know both about the degraded quality of clouds AND the color banding artifacts in clouds, sky and water. Fingers crossed

I’m not entirely sure, but isn’t P3D’s clouds just textures? If so, it’s obvious they look better, because it’s just a texture and not a volumetric simulation.
My biggest problem with clouds is the lack of certain cloud types like altocumulus, altostratus and cirrus. I remember the devs saying something about developing visual cues for thermals, turbulence etc. Just imagine seeing altocumulus lenticularis forming on the downwind of a mountain slope - boom… you have a visual cue about standing wave and potential turbulence… that would be awesome.
The clouds also exhibit weird behaviour like morphing, shifting and seemingly disappearing from the sky.

Someone just posted on facebook with a video of clouds that looked amazing, said they’d editied something in the usercfg, so waiting to hear back what it was and give it a shot!

Old clouds,

New clouds,

Total disgrace, please give us our old sim back Asobo.

Those are completely different cloud types. The cumulous type still look pretty good. The ones that don’t are those thin stratus clouds, as shown in your second image, and I agree they look bad compared to the others, but I struggle to describe exactly why.

Smudged is one way. Thin wispy clouds with very defined edges would be another. In any event, my brain tells me they look off in way that I don’t get when I look at cumulous clouds in the sim.

Actually, if you pass through any of the clouds no matter the type, there are weird lines inside the clouds that moves around the aircraft which I didn’t see before SU5. It almost looks like they built cloud textures from scratch of a much inferior quality which even puts it back behind P3D. So much for supposedly making it run on xbox only to pick it back up now which won’t even add anything new to the experience. Is this where the efforts should be put rather than adding much needed enhancements like weather overhaul or improvement to aircraft physics?

Two more recent examples from the “Random Screenshot Megathread 3” to highlight the weird purple color effects after SU5. Again, no offence to the guys who took these great shots, it just demonstrates the issues after SU5.
This is the most annoying effect, noticeable purple lines in the sky:

And here’s a more subtle example. While some lighting conditions may warrant some purple, it often looks like someone has overdone the hue in post processing.

Thanks all for the constructive input!
Where is @OlieTsubasa443 ?
I love to see a reaction which says: “ok, you guys are right, we will fix this!”.
One of the strongest selling points - great sky and colors - is just vanished after SU5.

Yes please @OlieTsubasa443 give us our old clouds back. Please.

I think it is worth noting that as of a few days ago this thread also contains the posts from the closed topics

and

Therefore any input regarding these issues might be beneficial for the Devs and hence for all of us.

This also shows a very nice comparison between Pre-SU5 clouds and Post-SU5 clouds.

I wonder about the [BUG LOGGED] tag in the title and the new gizmo image. There are some threads newly tagged that way, yet others like this remain without it.

As there’s still banding and a lot of purple going on in the sim, maybe the new tag should apply?.

The bug-logged means “The issue reported by the community is logged as a bug in our database.”

Also, I’ve noticed many people posting here about overall cloud quality. This is not what I’ve intended with this post. While I agree there should be work done on the clouds, this post is about various color lines/bands/artifacts introduced with SU5.
