[BUG LOGGED] Multiplayer Stuttering after world update - Liveries Bug report

Server location:
ALL

Type of Aircraft you are flying:
A320 Neo (Asobo), with and without CRJ (Aerosoft), CJ4 (Asobo).

How many aircraft/people you were flying with:
multiplayer - on

Specific location/airport?:
KLAX, KJFK, RJTT, EDLP (with and without EDLP by Aerosoft), EHAM, EGLL, EPWA, EPGD and many many more.

Were you yourself using a mod or custom livery?
Nope

Flashing gamertag (nickname / nameplate) causes stuttering.
Everything is ok without flashing.

This problem is Multiplayer only and can happen anywhere in the world and on any server. It started after WU4. The Hotfix did not start or change it. It seems to happen when in a group flight within sight of the plane causing the problem. It appears when two flyers are using the same aircraft type but one has an addon livery in use and the other does not have that exact livery installed in their community folder. As soon as the second person in that scenario loads in, every approximately 1 second the Stutter happens and affects anyone with the same plane type (and maybe others?). The nametag of the second person who initiated the Stutter, by having a unique Livery, flashes in sync with the Stutter. Others affected can ask that flyer to change to another livery. A default livery is usually requested although third party liveries are fine if all flyers have the same one installed. As soon as the offending flyer leaves the flight, or changes the livery with Development Mode, the Stutter stops and the flight returns to normal. If the returning flyer now has a livery that all others have in their community folder then there is no Stutter. Some also think that a mismatched aircraft model such as one flyer having a third party aircraft the others don’t have, may cause it as well but I don’t think that is proved yet. It appears to me it may be caused by the MSFS servers looking for the livery, not finding it, and repeating to look in a loop. Hope this info helps.

This morning I took a flight from Nice to Paris. Nice airport was a bit laggy. I had multiplayer and live traffic on, generic liveries. Saw a couple moving aircraft. I was able to depart 4L with minimal stutters, but not as smooth as I usually get. On climb out, very smooth, all the way to final approach at LFPG. Then the rhythmic one second stutters began all the way to the gate. Saw more operating aircraft. I will try it again with multiplayer off. End of report.

Very nice summary. I think you nailed the problem. Now all we need is a permanent solution.

Hi, fully agree! The 1/sec stutter stops when i’m in Groups Only. When in Multiplay and at an airport in the neighborhood of other players stuttering appears again. It’s a 3e part livery or an -aircraft problem caused by the other players!

Yess, try to fly in Group Only and 1/sec stuttering stops.

Yes, but even in a closed group you would get the stutter if someone showed up in the same plane as you but with a livery you don’t own.

Oké, so it is a 3e part livery problem.

and… no problem with a default livery in the closed group, i suppose?

The problem is that this issue occurs even if you just want to fly occasionally and anyone in your view uses a livery that you don’t have. I suffered from that bug after a flight in Switzerland when I landed in Zurich and the Sim began to stutter each second.

Hi Jayne,

There is a chance this is related:

Were you yourself using a mod or custom livery or anyone in your group? Yes-Delta Livery

When on the tarmac I could identify the one that was causing me the stutters because their nametag would flash, every time it flashed my movement/game would stutter/pause.

People say that turning off multiplayer helps. How do I turn off multiplayer? Thanks!

Multiplayer issues kill sim experience…

For a game that we paid more than 100 euro, and without counting the price of the computer to make it work more or less correctly, it is shameful…

Hi @Jummivana ,

The issue is not server or aircraft related. We did thorough testing with a group of 20+ planes (different plane types, modded & not modded, different servers), and it was clearly a livery issue.

  • If someone flies with a custom livery that others flying the same plane don’t have, it will cause predictable, periodic stutters, which is in sync on everybody’s screen.

  • We tested it with modded and default planes as well, and it was consistently the livery.

  • If someone is flying with a custom livery but a different plane than the others, the stuttering is almost not present. There’s SOME performance drop, but not user experience braking.

  • In our group flight of 20+ people with at least 3 different plane types, everybody using default liveries, we had a smooth experience.

  • When someone appeared in our vicinity with a custom livery, everybody who was in the same type of plane but did not have the livery experienced massive stutters.

  • When we changed servers without the custom livery plane, everything went back to normal.

  • If somebody had a custom aircraft that others did not have (e.g. the helicopter), it did not cause stutters even if they had custom livery on their custom aircraft.

Thank you for sharing!

One more reason to supporting :

Type of Aircraft you are flying: MB-339

How many aircraft/people you were flying with: 9 or more

Specific location/airport? Barrow Airport

Were you yourself using a mod or custom livery or anyone in your group?
I used a default livery of the MB-339, but other players used custom liveries I don’t have installed. Some players also used third-party aircrafts I don’t own.
Multiplayer was on, use generic liveries for multiplayer was set to “No”.
When flying far away from the group everthing was fine and smooth. But as soon I came close (flashlights visible), the stuttering started.

Hello everyone! Thank you for all your feedback on this.
The team is aware of this and has been added to our backlog.

Olie.
