Since fs2020 i lost interest in the big iron aircraft that i always flew with P3d and fsx . Here rarely do i go over 18,000 feet ,cause basically your flying over google earth. trying to find some real good bush flying strips but not having much luck , what are some of you using ?—thanks Louis cyyc
That be awesome!
But, we’re flying over bing ![]()
I like the build in bush trips in the activities section
not sure what you mean by ‘not having luck’
if your just not finding the small strips try Little NavMap or maybe any other flight planner to show where they are, i like LNM for many reasons but one is it reads directly from the game database (even includes custom scenery you may have) so its always ‘correct for the game’ even if the game is not correct to irl
the problem with the small bush strips are most arent that exciting, even if they are represented well
but you can find some really good addons, both free and payed
since you posted in this catagory i also do suggest finding a group, maybe thru twitch or discord, to fly with - even if you fly solo being in a group on discord can help you stay current on w/e freeware/payware you may be interested in
but more this game is a blast on short bushtrip flying with a group, its so much more fun to share those crazy landings and even the crashes ![]()
I also like the default bush trips, in spite of their many limitations, and their quality does vary a lot.
You can also try the Return to Misty Moorings site and community. Plenty of bush flying to be done there
.
Well that’s a real good start, i know about little nav map but didn’t know about it able to find bush strips . and Sky pilot is there a big difference with big and google map ? thanks im good to go now --Louis
I like default bush trips but since last update and you can’t park your plane where you want and always start fully configured on a runway it lost magic to me unless we will have a way to disable it.
Try southern Alaska, especially the area around New Anchorage. Plenty of smaller strips around there and a lovely scenery. ESPECIALLY recommended for floatplanes !
even the ingame VFR map is going to locate airports better than a street map
any game ‘moving map / flight planner / flight tracker’ is going to be Much better than just a street map (bing or google)
you can even add google maps as background maps in LNM, so you can have the best of both worlds ![]()
they have the airports shown with similar icons like the ingame map does and many have airport details
LNM even shows the taxi ways and parking spots if you zoom in far enough, but you can see the airport icon from much farther out
there are lots of them around volanta, sky4sim and dozens more, LNM is more advanced so may not be that easy to use, but you can just close all the extra windows and use it like any moving map to start out
check YouTube bush flying channels… tons of good stuff out there…
Launch from McCall ( KMYL ) and head east into the River of No Return / Salmon wilderness… loads of good strips ( also nice payware for KMYL, just updated )
There’s a mix of freeware and payware strips for the area as well.
Washington State has great flying. NorCal has some surprisingly cool bush strips.
Nevada, Utah, Montana etc… ( Alaska and BC go without saying )
Here’s a sample pack…
Hello @louisbm1677 , Friends, Clubs &Groups is for people to connect with each other. When looking for places to fly, you can use Screenshots & World Discovery. I have moved your topic.
Hi! I just found this topic and it’s pretty similar to a thing I started / posted yesterday!! ![]()
Perhaps we can join forces and fill out my sheet where I am adding and ranking great STOL and interesting landing strips with the help of the community?
Check out my post here and see if you wanna get into it with me… ![]()
The best bush flying strips in the sim (and probably in reality) are in Papua New Guinea / West Papua (Indonesia). There are literally hundreds of them in the default sim - short, rough, and often sloping on the side of a mountain. Load up Little Nav Map and zoom in and you’ll see tons of unpaved strips there; it’s incredible.
Asobo launched the sim with a handcrafted strip in West Papua called Bugalaga (WX53). This will give you an idea. (After you see it and think “no one would really land here”, go look up YouTube videos of people landing there in reality.
)
And then, check out all the freeware addon scenery for the area on flightsim.to…
It’s bush flying paradise; the best that has ever existed in any sim!
@louisbm1677 I agree with @Stearmandriver2 and if you are looking for a specific PNG addon, then Wantok’s Papua New Guinea / West Papua mega mod combines his fixes for over 500 strips, 12 new ones, terrain and nav aid fixes - could be a good place to begin.

And for extra challenge remember that in PNG the 1939 version of the Ju52 counts as a bush plane…

Nice! This one had escaped my attention; looking forward to trying it out when I have time. Thanks for pointing it out; Wantok’s work is always top notch!
I agree the PNG area is totally amazing for interesting approaches and stunning scenery!
I have to disagree with the word “short” though. They are mostly not that short. There is plenty of space and width. They aren’t really difficult to land on most of them (but still a lot of fun!). Have you found any that are particularly short or difficult?
you can try these, by Photosbykev
i cant say all or even most are ‘hard’ per say but some are 600-1000 feet uphill, 1 way in 1 way out
https://flightsim.to/file/42135/highland-papua-bush-strip-collection-indonesia
i will recommend pretty much anything by Photosbykev
tbh im not sure these are ‘improved’ beyond terrain fixes and minor stuff but should be fun
There are so many that I certainly haven’t been to them all. If you open little mav map, you can search for short strips, and if you use the terrain map background you can see the slopes.
A few that come to mind as being a good challenge for various reasons that exist in the base sim are Ononge, Kagi, Omban, the high altitude strips east of Tapini… And so many others.
Another fun one is Boridi. It’s not in the base sim but I’ve created it in this addon:
https://flightsim.to/file/29396/the-missing-koiari-kokoda-track-bush-strips
It’s a short, sloped (up and to the side) and curving strip. It’s one that doesn’t seem would plausibly be real, but all I did to create it was remove the trees covering it. I knew there was a real strip there, and without veg it’s clearly visible in the satellite imagery. So then I just outlined the visible strip with cones. So as unlikely as it seems, it should be a realistic rendition.
Recommend Return to Misty Moorings MSFS website.
Nice one - downloading yours now!! Thanks!
