C208B Grand Caravan EX Mods General

What alert is this? ALTNR AMPS

Looks like you don’t have the generator on. ALTNR is alternator, so it’s reading low Amps, and most likely none.

My guess without seeing the current draws is the gen is off and the alternator is trying to supply all the electrical load and can’t. It has a much lower total capacity than the main gen.

Set ā€œStby ALT PWRā€ to ON and Reset ā€œGeneratorā€

Thanks, that helped a lot.
Does anyone knew the keyboard command for the Generator switch? I’m flying here with several Streamdecks, which I use for control anything

taking advantage of holiday break I prepared a small update to the grand caravan MOD.

ChangeLog:

  • emergency power lever simple implementation
  • scaled N1 gauge to b able to show 103.7 %
  • added avionics power-on sound
  • tweaks to flight model

it wouldn’t hurt to test this version more before official release. if you are interested go here:

Cool, looking forward to test it

Oh, my God, what have you done to the throttle axle? Unfortunately, it doesn’t work at all that the idle on the Honeycomb BTQ is somewhere in the middle where there is no resistance. :frowning:

Refer to the POH - the throttle axis now acts as it should with a beta range at the bottom. There is a generous idle zone that is not at all hard to find. I have it marked on my Logi quadrant with the sticky part of a sticky note defining the beta range. The use of the axis for beta and not just a toggle to go full-on reverse is because beta mode is used for taxiing in the 208 so you want to be able to apply it gently

This is all well and good but the most common throttle controllers don’t have an axis below whatever gate they may have. I wish they did but sadly not. If there is a gate then beyond it is normally just a switch. Yes you can do what you have but then you have no at the critical idle point. I use the throttle by feel and don’t really see the need to look at it when operating just so I don’t accidentally go into beta so this is less than ideal.

Yes, the change to the throttle is there since march, but i realized it might have not been officially released yet. Please note that the throttle has implementd a dead zone that makes the trottle stick to idle position for small range of controller input. that should help you not to struggle too much with setting the idle. I will add this info to release notes.

Same as the Kodiak? Here was a rollback due many negative resposnes

The idea of adapting the axis so that it works 1:1 like in real life is basically very good. The only problem is that none of us has the hardware where the points ā€œIDLEā€ to ā€œBETAā€ and ā€œReverseā€ are marked by a resistance or where these points can only be overcome by pulling an additional lever.
And having to guess these points during an approach with adverse conditions is doomed to failure from the outset.
Even during stress-free taxiing on the ground, there was a constant unpleasant feeling.

Thanks for your effort. I’m happy there is someone, who wants to improve the Caravan!.
I just tried the new mod, and have a few remarks and questions:

I can’t hear any new avionics power-on sound. What sould have changed?
It seems there is a new (alert) sound playing using the test switch, but this is only working without the FTSIM+ Mod.
The cabin switch is not longer working with the toggle-command, I could’nt figure out the new commands

Accorrding the throttle axis, I can’t see/ feel any differences, but the good old axis is good enought for me.
My wishes:
Working Bleed air, with sound
Inertial separator with impact to the engine
Governator with impact to the engine
…

strange…, do you see the switch stopped working after mod update or after sim update ?
on the previous mod version does it still work ?

just now, with the new mod. I’ve both installed and choosing it via addon linker

I pushed this release to flightsim.to

Happy holidays and a healthy start into the new year!

OK I found a nice solution to keep both modes of the throttle lever. By default, the aircraft should now load with legacy mode for the first time. you can bind however the controller button to the event THROTTLE_REVERSE_THRUST_TOGGLE. pressing the button will allow you to change the throttle mode between old and new behavior. At the end of the flight simulator will remember the state of the throttle mode so you will not have to switch it over again and again. You can try the change from here:

Thanks for the workaround (and mod - shout out to magrainaOne as well for the contunued work), but I really think you should revert this throttle change completely.

Using a button to trigger reverse thrust is not ā€œlegacy modeā€, it’s the default for simulation due to the wide range of controllers that don’t support a dual range throttle. It’s also how every other turbine plane (afaik) is set up to work with reverse thrust.

Thanks a lot!
Could you please check the Cabin switch as well?
Your new sound dosen’t work togehter with the FTSIM+ mod :sleepy:
