Fair point, I didn’t think of it that way, but I mean again, I feel like my message is easy to misinterpret haha. I am ALSO saying let’s have a positive day IF indeed, as also metioned by @Crunchmeister71, the update is indeed generally positive, which I hope it is
With your approach as the devil’s advocate, I accept your arguments and agree that balance is most important.
I’d only add that criticism must be offered in light of the fact that most of the negativity on these boards is coming from a small portion of the 20% in the 80/20 rule. The vast majority of the user base is happy with the product. Negative criticism stretches all our minds and that allows growth. However, negative criticism that places blame or rehashes that which has already been brought to light is unnecessary and redundant.
And as for “fanboys”–what or who are they that you fear people will migrate to that side(?) is it? Is that a dark side or just what? I don’t know of the “Fallout 76”…
I really hope it works out well for us this time around. I’m honestly tried of updates that fix 2 things and break 5 more that worked fine before.
I want bugs fixed and missing functionality added. If they can do that without breaking a bunch of other stuff, I’ll be happy.
Really it’s the next sim update I’m looking forward to. I want the nav systems and Garmins fixed.
Yes agreed, criticism should be contructive, and whilst I will always maintain even when it’s not, the people need to be heard, I’d agree that it is most certainly a lot more helpful and impactful when it is well laid out and constructive towards a better solution
As to the Fallout 76 reference, the TLDR of that entire drama is that Bethesda promised A LOT and underdelivered spectacularly, and THEN to top it all off, they just kept stumbling and stumling and making more and more mistakes, yet there is a small percetage of gamers (fanboys) out there that stood by their (Bethesda) bad practices the whole way through. Granted, a small minority, but still. I do not like people defending undefensible, I’m sure you get the idea of what I’m trying to say.
So you’re starting off with a negative attitude before you even start. No wonder all you see is negativity. If an Update did away with the need for your own update, do research by checking with MSFS whether they plan the area you are seeking to develop. At the end of the day, they don’t owe you a living, you are latching on to its success and profiting from it, and you have every right to do so. But if you want to spend all your time developing and updating, apply for a job at MSFS. If you’re good enough they might take you on!
Thank you for the enlightenment… I don’t have a “gamer” background, so I’ll take your word for it.
What is “TLDR”?
Reading between the lines some in your reply, I get the feeling that the majority of the fanbase didn’t agree with the direction and/or fixes offered by the developer and took issue with those who seemed to be okay with it. I’d assume that those who were okay with the “party line” must have had good reason for their loyalty. I’d wonder what gave them the reason(s) to be that loyal?
For what it’s worth, I don’t see that kind of blind loyalty here. There are certainly long-term, loyal flight simulator folks (count me as one), but I don’t see the blind loyalty you alluded to in your example.
The biggest puzzle for me in this is the question; “Why don’t I see any of the problems that so many of those that report negatively do?” I have been running the FBW Custom Mod since I heard about it and even with that “experimental” version, I’ve had perhaps one or two crashes out of the program. As I stated elsewhere, I’m livin’ la vida loca on the bleeding edge and the simulator still runs flawlessly for me.
Here’s to a positive day, to which I will happily drink to. I understand that there are frustrations which can result in negative feedback. However, I don’t think there is ever an excuse for hurling insults, many times personal, at a company or its employees. This happens all to often on our forum. I would love to have something in the code of conduct that enforces criticism that is constructive and would ban posts that are crude and insulting in the way they are presented. Thanks.
The day depends wether of Not the Update brings new critical bugs. Like the Terrain Spikes in the Last one, before Christmas, and they are still Not fixed.
Its hard to be positive with the history of Last Updates in mind.
Pancake day is all the positivity I need today!
Nobody likes bullies or just generally sh***y behaviour or insults just out of anger, so I totally understand the sentiment behind wanting to enfornce some sort of conduct policy, BUT that tends to be a very quick way to alienate people that more often than not have genuine problems and are just bad at handling their emotions. In my experience this breeds more negativity, at least in the case of bans or just generally very authoritative and strict enforcement.
It would be a lot better if we all just had rational conversations (such as what we’re doing now) and had patience with those who would otherwise hurl insults at people. Most of the time it’s misplaced anger, rarely is it ever malicious in nature just for the sake of being malicious.
But anyway, here’s to a good update!
It’s easy to be positive if you go looking for the positives instead of just trying to find bugs! Nobody is saying we shouldn’t mention big and problems but first of all let’s all have a chance to enjoy the good stuff on this first day and then when we do find things that need correcting, we do so in a positively constructive manner and not with the childish language that sadly some are prone to.
seems like it’s happening today
Repeating that nonsense doesn’t make it true.
There has never been a major update that didn’t fix hundreds of issues.
Thank you Asobo for your hardwork. And sorry for being upset sometimes … but you know how we feel when the things goes wrong. But you did a great work on this very complex simulator. Really good job ASOBO and a great thank you to MODERATORS around the forum.
Keep doing your great job
Yes-- Thank you to EVERYONE (why not ?)
Whatever is occurring Today with MSFS, while it may seem so important & relevant now, will be “History and Forgotten” in a few years time, why get all twisted and bent out of shape by what is occurring Today.
Far more important things to get concerned about, than the short term life of a “Computer Game”
I have been involved with Flight Simulators, and also a Private Pilot for more year than I care to remember. MSFS is “COOL” but it is only a very small & minor part of MY life.
However, for some, who are relying on MSFS for more - like a living or Career, I can understand why , at the moment, it seems so important to them.
So, a Particular THANK YOU, to those people, why are heavily involved, and dependent of the course that MSFS takes. They have little choice.
The rest of us “More Serious Simmers” have a multitude of choice , MSFS, XP, P3D so pick what you like, and don’t get so upset with the short term, shortcomings of one individual product.
As Abraham Lincoln said
“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time"
or maybe , even more appropriate:
You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can make a ■■■■ fool of yourself any old time. – Laurence Johnston Peter
I tried to be positive by having a silly UK Update Day thread but it was shut down. Maybe UK humour still doesn’t export too well.
On the plus side, pie mash and liquor tonight, followed by pud, watch Mastermind, brush my teeth (yellow & proud) and hopefully have a little “ow’s yer father” before I conk out.
Am I getting people in the mood for the UK yet?
If there is no Old Trafford I am going to start a Zen ticket
I have positive days every day.
“Mate”, You got to have at least one “cuppa” before bedtime – a nice cup of “Rosie Lee”, before you climb the “Apple and Pears”, and join the “Trouble & Strife” for some “Little Bo Peep”
