Can we talk about photogrammetry quality?

It’s still a new product after all. Giving time to them is obviously the best thing to do now.

Personally @ 4K ULTRA I am around 35 - 45fps everywhere except of some very few areas which I usually avoid. So there is nothing to complain about except of the PG mode which may in the future slow down more areas as well, till things may get better for the reasons you’ve mentioned already.

yeh, 4K ultra will bring any system to its knees begging for mercy.

Probably a nice thing to try is to drop the render scaling down to 80%. You most likely won’t be able to see a difference (unless you’re displaying on a REALLY large screen), and it will give you better performance.

The areas I usually fly around are giving me always nice FPS experience even @ 4K.
No several issues so far except of London area now.

Well, let’s wait the servers to calm down a bit in a few days, try again and probably the 80% scaling down is a good compromise.

BTW, I have a 3080 RTX and to tell you the truth it’s 10GB memory is not enough for high dense areas. I think some of the slow downs that may occur are due to this. GPU memory is FULL!!!
80% scaling resolves the problem.

Maybe I got my hopes up a little from the community scenery I was using prior to the update. The difference is errr…staggering to say the least…

Andddd update…

The added detail or “3D-ness” when flying at a sensible altitude is nice but the resolution is awful and most of it looks broken compared to the community addon.

Performance is certainly an issue with higher resolution community PG. I think Asobo has to maintain an expected level of performance without a massive hit when in photogrammetry areas. I know my 5800x and RTX 3080 struggles in many of those high-res community photogrammetry google rips.

Just flew a 152 over central London, and I was getting between 15-20 FPS which I’ve never had before in this sim. I’m usually stable at 40-60 everywhere in all aircraft.

2070 Super, Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB Ram and in 1080p. I dont know if somethings wrong but thats a huge drop.

I want PG to be made in high definition, even if it means lower FPS.
If PG is going to look like clay to avoid low FPS, Autogen + handmade landmarks is better.
Let’s leave the PFS improvements to future hardware updates.

I said the same issue last night.
My specs are much higher but I play always @ 4K Ultra without issues.

Now over London 15fps… (tried only last night once the update was installed).
I am not sure if it was a server problem due to the global heavy load.

Need to try again and wait some server stability.

I totally agree with you. I’m really hoping that the decision to do it this way wasn’t to showcase Bing because…well, a picture is worth a thousand words.

However, I’m a big fan of apocalypse fiction and at least Bing’s photogrammetry delivers big for the flying through post apocalypse city experience, the buildings looked crumpled, the roofs collapsed, trees growing out the sides of buildings and in the middle of highways.

Just roll play it right and it works. (when the world throws you lemons…)

I think between the fps hit and the wet cardboard / crayon textures I’m leaning towards turning off PG, its a mixed bag close up and sticks out like a sore thumb at medium - far levels of detail, which is typically where most pilots are from the ground.

What a mess… :frowning:

When you look at the comparison shots, I think if BlackShark could find a way to make building heights more accurate it would be quite an easy choice because Autogen buildings just look so much better.

Just been sightseeing around London. Horrible with PG, so as with USA I turned it off and now all is fine. The palaces are really superb, Greenwich, Buck House, all the major sights are there and up river, Hampton Court, and particularly Windsor Castle are magnificent. Some sights inevitably missing…ie Thames Barrier, HMS Belfast, Kensington Palace, Albert memorial, Albert Hall, and there are bound to be others not noticed by a country boy such as I. However, well done Asobo… so far. It will be interesting to see what the forthcoming Orbx patch can add, and I am certain the Community will eventually fill any remaining gaps.
Brum next visit !

Certainly not. This has maybe smth to do with optimization but not due to 10gigs ofGPU memory not being enough. I get 30+ with my 2080. Stop crying b/c you expected magic from a 3080. Keep watching for driver updates instead geez…

I think you could use the photogrammetric data and apply it to the height of the autogen model.
Structures above a certain size are likely to be landmarks, but autogen often replaces them with deformed office buildings, so it would be better to display photogrammetric models for such structures.

For your information I play with 4K Ultra settings everything at maximum level and my fps are from minimum 35 to a maximum 52fps. I noticed for the first time which is a rare case (Orbx Paris Package) the frames dropped radically due to full VRAM memory. So as Photogrammetry uses more texture information than autogen, this is the reason why I mentioned it.

Where to you get 30+ and with which settings, what resolution? If I lower down slighty some settings is obvious that I get much better fps and I am not here to cry cause I was pretending who knows what kind of magic from a 3080 card which FYI I was lucky to buy in a reasonable price and not by scalpers.

I complain about the hype and bad marketing Microsoft and Asobo did before this release when in reality is unplayable, the visual result is ridiculous and even high end systems can’t reproduce what they offer to us now and promised to the community. This is still a BETA release for me! Since August the planes are still buggy, many things don’t work and who wants things get better, MODs are a temporary solution.

If you’re here you paid for this game which is still not a final commercial product.

So, if for you this is ok, happy you. We’re here democratically share our opinion.

Yes, is happening everywhere now days, even with high end professional software which I use for work daily.

I am not saying I don’t like it, actually I love the experience FS gives to me every day but is so sad to see all their efforts to load more and more graphical elements than fix the basic problems and issues that a flight simulator needs to have at this stage already fixed!

Since World Update III, my hardware controller has a bug now and if you guys noticed the planes when they fly in the clouds they have a light blue halo effect around them.

Basically, they add one thing, the break others.

hahahhaah funny these topics.

You’re still missing the point totally. I don’t care how much you paid or where you got it from, my issue is with people having unrealistic expectations from GPU’s because they think the newest is always the best. Even w/ computers this is not always true; the 30xx series is still a very new chipset that has much in common with a prototype especially compared to the proven 20xx series. The global shortage in rare earths and chips resp. have led to many brands selling “lower quality chip” 30xx cards. Your card has enormous potential in the next 1-5 years. In the meantime I’m getting 30+ fps over London on Very-high to Ultra on my proven 2080. With 8gigs of VRAM. The proof is in the pudding.

The best you can do is keep your cards drivers up-to-date and hope that Asobo will at one point optimize for 30xx+

I just kept you from buying a 1500+ bucks 3090 - you’re welcome. Oh and I seriously don’t want this to become a lengthy discussion. Thank you.

Something that doesn’t work as it should is not an expectation. They put stuff in it that are not ready for the public usage yet, instead of fixing serious problems from the beginning which till now don’t work.

This is commercial stuff where companies and people are making money. Yours and mine in their pockets. So you missed the point from the beginning, I don’t care about the 3080’s performance but I care about publishing commercial software which is not ready yet. Take a look in the forum and see how many people are unpleased with this update.

At the end, if we are here is because we bought it, invested on it and we want to have fun. And with a buggy software like it is, that is not realistic.

And btw, in 5 years from now the tech we have in our hands will be rubbish and forgotten.
And stop making suppositions on things you don’t know, on what I would like or not.
