OK another confirmation. Downloaded the “Xbox” app (it is called just “Xbox” nothing else, no Bar or anything) from MS Store, launched it, clicked Get Updates and the download of the MSFS update finally started. Thanks for help.

MS continues to provide the worst update experience for any software I own. Thanks for the tip about installing the XBOX App WHY??? That brought the update to the Store app. :rage:

So these are the instructions for the update in the patch notes.

Open the Microsoft Store, Steam, or Xbox application (whichever you use to play the sim) check for updates to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Install the update. Click here for a more in-depth guide for PC users.

I feel the changes with some users now needing to install the Xbox app isn’t explained sufficiently in these notes. @Jummivana can this be looked at? I was one of the users where the Xbox Store didn’t see the update 19:45 BST and had to install the Xbox App for the Store to start the download.

Other than that point the patch notes are very impressively presented. :+1:

Hello simmers. After installing Xbox app it starts downloading, when opening the game. Stupid but through

Fsim sends me to the store for the update: none available so Fsim cannot start. Reset MS Store, but same issue. Waiting for a solution.

XBOX app shows installed (digital ownership) in Store, have reset MS Store, still can’t access update. VERY frustrating!!!

Doesnt work with XBox app here!

MSFS just got to 1 click from uninstall!

Try logging out of the store then logging back in. Using the Xbox app I launched from Xbox app then went to the store and mine is updating now .I don’t know why MS has to make this such a PIA every time to update.

Try to open the Xbox App…start MSFS there…wait for message a New mandatory Update ist available in MS Store…Press OK…than The Update is available in MS Store…good luck

Me too. After installing the XBOX App (can be find in the store), the Microsoft Flight Simulator update was found after pressing the ‘get update’ button.

I have bought the FS for Windows, not for XBOX. Why I need a XBOX app? Very unserious. Bug?

What exactly is the “Xbox App”?? Which are you guys referring to??? Is it the “Xbox Console Companion” or the “Xbox Game Bar” I now appear to have both, and see nothing helping me to get this MANDATORY update.

Not able to use the software at all… ■■■!!!

Taking a hint from gwjr19, I restarted by PC and performed the following to successfully reached the stage of downloading packages:

  1. restarted pc
  2. started XBox
  3. In XBox, listed my collections
  4. Chose Microsoft Flight Simulator - premium version in my case
  5. In the right hand box, there was the ‘Play you own this’ button. Clicked that.
  6. MSFS started and wanted me to go to MS Store to do mandatory upgrade. I clicked that button to go to MS Store.
  7. In MS Store, I clicked the ‘Get Updates’ button in the upper right corner.
  8. It began (for the first time) to show update available for MSFS. I clicked that button.
  9. After the download was completed, I restarted MSFS, which immediately asked me for permission to modify PC.
  10. I gave permission to above, and now I am happily proceding with installing the latest update 6.

I am writing this so next time, I have this to go back to. At the same time, I hope this will help others. I have no idea why this convoluted process worked.

What is the “Xbox app”?? I now have two and they do nothing…(A year ago I purchased the “Deluxe PC version” not the Xbox version.)

Thanks for the info. It worked for me as well but I have no idea why it is necessary to download yet another Xbox app which has not been necessary to obtain prior updates. From what I have seen the need for the Xbox app is not mentioned in the release notes but it is buried within many pages of Zendesk articles regarding downloads from the MS store. I did reset the MS store cache which did not solve the problem. Now I need to understand what the Xbox app is all about!:crazy_face:
Fortunately the in game update process was successful.

Start the Xbox Console Companion. Within it you can download and install the Xbox App.
