Carenado announced Cessna 337 Skymaster

Just bought this bird. GamingCat, thanks for your efforts to improve the interior. When you say “The illumination during night flights is perfect and can be fully dimmed,” does this mean you’ve found a way to dim the overhead flood light? The only way I seem to be able to illuminate the lower center console (autopilot) is to turn on that overhead switch but that’s too bright for me. Being able to dim that light would be great. Also, I note the passenger cabin is almost completely pitch black other than a small splash on the seats when you turn on the overhead floods. Any way to splash some more light around to illuminate side panels, etc?

The dome lights are unfortunately only a sharp defined circle of light on the seat without illuminating anything else - only a new light script of raytracing might be able to change this.
The Seneca V has a dome light with a dimmer but the Skymaster has only lights that can be switched on or off… I don´t know how to change this without having access to the aircraft config.

I would like to have some light too that slightly illuminates the whole panel to be able to see without always switching the ALT+L flashlight on every time I need the autopilot or any other button in the cockpit.

I purchased the Skymaster almost as soon as it came out because I have about 50 hours in an actual Skymaster. I loaded it in MSFS 2000. The aircraft does not take off. It is very tail heavy even when I change the weight and balance. Every time I try to take off, the nose gear pops up and the tail drags. It never gets above 60 mph. When I try to force it to come off the runway, it does a really nice loop and ends up on its top, I deleted it and re-installed the download. Same problem no matter what kind of adjustments I make.

I have had the app since November. I had a lot of problems with it. Finally, deleted and re-installed all the apps on my computer and everything seems to be working correctly except for the Skymaster.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Please don’t shoot the messenger:

Try double-checking to be 100% certain the “Modern” Flight Model is selected. The trouble you’re having sounds like it somehow reverted to “Legacy.”

If anything, the Carenado C337 has too much power. The real one won’t climb at 1500+ fpm… or at least not for long…

Thanks GamingCat, it’s as I feared. One of the few niggles I’ve encountered that I wish could be changed. Overall I’m enjoying this bird which is a bit of a conundrum for me, giving more than expected in certain areas and less in others that I did expect. One very big unexpected bonus, for me, is the full suite of older nav equipment implemented, including DME and ADF, for those times one is looking or an alternative way to navigate instead of following a magenta line. That equipment functions superbly in fact and I’m a little surprised these features have not been mentioned anywhere that I’ve read thus far. Guess I’m showing my age here.

There is an odd glitch when using the flashlight, that is repeatable. See below for the effect when using the flashlight to look for loose change in the footwells…

Does anyone know the model number for Flight Director / AP mode panel that Carenado modeled? I want to look for pilots manual.

Type 400A

Thank you very much for replying and mentioning the control bindings!

So far I only activated the autopilot via the switch in the VC. Yesterday I tried to activate it with the “z” key and heading select mode as well as altitude hold mode were working fine. There is probably something wrong with the AP master switch in the VC. But using the key command is a great workaround. Thanks again for your help!

Interesting I have not noticed this bug on my machine (AMD Radeon.)
This looks almost like some blue illuminated fog in the pedal area.

In response to a previous user with the same problem. Solution = never use Legacy flight model.

It is very specific. It does not (apparently) happen at Cold/Dark… I could not reproduce it in that state. I have only seen it after takeoff and after cycling the cowl flaps. It may (somehow) be triggered by the blue lamps that indicate cowl flaps in the open position.

I have a Radeon 5700XT.

I have a problem setting the radios, ADF and others. I can switch the first and last numbers but not the number in the middle. Maybe it’s a key binding problem? I should be missing something :expressionless:

Hi, I have tested the Skymaster with my Radeon Vega 11 and the bug is not there when switching on the cow flap lights.

Maybe something in your Radeon graphics settings is triggering it… When I look down with the ALT + L flashlight while the cow flaps are moowing in the full open position the floor looks normal.

Haven’t had a chance to get in sim for a few days but I think you just push the inner knob to switch between 10s & 1s. I’ve managed to get everything in this plane to work without reading the manual, generally try pushing knobs as well as turning when you’re trying to work things out

A left mouse click on the inner knob will do it.

Always state whether you are talking about Legacy mode or Lock mode when giving advice like that. You know what happens when you ASSUME?

Excellent aircraft but the engine sound is almost twice as loud as most other planes.

Ah I see you made good use of the heating system!
But what purpose has the left slider? (Labeled “Air”)

The Air slider is a fresh air vent control.
