Carenado announced Cessna 337 Skymaster

Looks like one of the end scenes from The Abyss. :ocean:

Testing sky master on xbox just now and the edm 800 seems to be broken. The texture is too low so the bottom numbers get cut in half and unless I’m doing something wrong the bar graph isn’t working at all.

There seems to be an odd bug that’s popped up with SU9 maybe, where displays all have odd looking font scaling, I noticed the DC6 radios are also weird looking (still readable though) and the C414 digital readouts seem to be offset somehow.

Maybe it’s fixable by the devs, I hope…

It works on pc though it’s just broken on xbox.

Are you flying in Developer mode and you have the experimental XML gauge rendering activated to get better performance in the DC-6? If so, the faulty font scaling in the DC-6 is a side effect of that. It has been like that before SU9.

Just disregard if not. It’s another issue then.

That’s probably it cheers. I’ll just have to wait till pmdg update it at some point.

Possibly Xbox specific, but the digital temperature display is offset low. Consequently the lower temperature read outs are around 50% hidden below the lower edge of the display.

I Bought this today on the X Box Flightsim Market place but the Autopilot won’t engage the button will not light up ? Am I missing something or is this a Bug please would love to hear any answers many thanks

Are you having problems clicking on the Autopilot button and making it engage I can’t get it to work on my X Box Series X ?

For some reason, that specific ā€buttonā€ is only a light/indicator. AP-button can be found low down on the center-console.

O.k Many thanks will take a look :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

The Cessna 337 ā€œpush me pull meā€ is such a innovative design. Red Bull bought one at one point. The way the back propeller works because it’s fixed at a pitch the pushes the plane forward.

Did you ever ascertain what the issue was with the flat battery on the 337?

I bought it for Xbox last night and I had the same issue with just the DIS light on. Couldn’t start engines etc. Used tablet for ground power (is this simply graphical rather than functional?) But that didn’t help charge battery.

Was still to be able to hear fuel pumps which I reckon must be a bug since if the battery is flat that shouldn’t happen.

Had to restart scene basically

Also the sound is very whiny from outside, might be accurate, might not. Annoying though. And far too loud compared to in cockpit.

Are either of these issues worth reporting to Carenado or are they too minor for them to bother?

Very nice looking plane inside and out. For some reason I don’t like the rear spot plane view until I change the up /down angle but that must just be how it would look. Generally impressed.

Finally I see the alternative nav radio option on the tablet, presumably we can’t get this on Xbox?

The issue I was having was solved by not pressing ā€œLā€ to turn lights on. I don’t know if there is a similar command on Xbox, and am unfamiliar with Xbox options, but maybe make sure there are no assistance options or something that ā€œhelpsā€ with a cold and dark start-up. Maybe someone with more experience with this bird on Xbox can chime in here.

I’m actually not sure if the GPU is functional, if you look at it closely from the outside it’s not even plugged in IIRC.

Thanks for offering a workaround. Don’t think it applies here as I’d turned lights on from the cockpit button. Unless anyone else has had Xbox issues with the Sky master can suggest what might have happened to cause a non-recoverable battery?

Has anyone given feedback to Carenado that they might revise the sounds set, or at least reduce the volume of the exterior sound vs the interior? Really noticeable - ie quickly turn the TV down.!As you pan around the aircraft the sound is exactly the same front to rear.

Can’t imagine they’ll go and record a new sound set from a real life aircraft now though on what is a relatively old model. That aspect felt a bit FSX-y

I’ve got the Skymaster on Xbox and I’ve had zero issues with its electrical system.

I’m unsure what to suggest that may have been your issue. You didn’t press the alternator reset button, did you? I noticed that both the reset and test buttons are not coded as momentary switches and act, instead, like on/off switches. I don’t know if leaving one of those in its pushed in state will disrupt the charging system, but it’s a thought.

Quite possible I did actually, certainly tried them after I had issues, so possible I did beforehand too just to test the buttons. Will make sure I leave them alone.

How do you find it as an aircraft? It’s my only aircraft addon until I can get my hands on the 310 and 146 post-WASM cure.

Easy enough to master the avionics?

I like it, more than I really have a reason to. This may have to do with what it is and what it represents as an unusual aircraft configuration. However, It doesn’t behave in any significant way that makes it feel unique, which I was kind of hoping for.

I really like the layout of the cockpit and instrument panel and it flies well. It has been my go-to GA aircraft lately.

I wish the weather radar worked. I don’t know if it does on PC, I haven’t tried it yet on mine. I’ve seen it show some green on the display, but it doesn’t sweep and has to have its range cycled by hand to see it update. Of course, I fly so often in CA and we don’t really have weather in these parts…

I’d like to see the electronic bar graph gauge get fixed. It seems to be shifted downwards a few pixels and cuts off the lowest part of the display. It also doesn’t really seem to indicate anything other than maxed out bars.

The autopilot is kinda whacky. Particularly the VS control. It reminds me a bit of the Sperry in the DC-6 (I’ve got that on my PC) in that you have to turn off Altitude Hold to then use the Vertical Speed control to ascend/descend to a new altitude and then engage Alt Hold again when you’re at your desired altitude. It’s a bit different that way, which does add something alternative to most of the other aircraft autopilots.

Thanks for noting your experience with it. I think it’s a cracking looking craft, and handles politely enough.

The attention to detail inside is as good as outside with most of the controls I’d care to have functional all working. Tested the opening-window-whilst-flying immediate crash bug, but I know that’s an Asobo issue. It was just nice to have an opening window and door!

The non functioning weather radar: I think I’ve read that weather radars aren’t working due to an Asobo issue?

Just wish they’d put more effort in the engine sound/external sounds.

The window thing is seriously perplexing.

All Carenado aircraft seem to crash if a window is open, yet other aircraft can have theirs open no problem. The Junkers, for instance. I don’t understand why this isn’t universal.

I’m flying right now from KPRB to MMST, which is a 4+ hour flight and it’s just dreamy up here at 10000’. Leaned out it sips fuel and hums along nicely.

I’ve been kind of dorking out and putting my, the Mrs.’, the boy’s and the dogā€s weight in the seats, plus some luggage weight and pretending I’m flying to exotic locations.

One can dream, no?
