Carenado announced Cessna 337 Skymaster

Also agree, great all-arounder with exceptional visibility. As usual, Carenado scores a home run on the visuals and the flight dynamics are actually pretty good. What still bugs me about the release:

Last patch they completely ruined the mixture lean logic and it is now nowhere near what it should be.
No engine exhaust blur. They should at least provide features that are evident in the default aircraft.
Non-animated cowl flaps.
Lighting in cabin is terrible. A ‘spotlight’ simply lights up the seats with no ambient light at all.
No de-icing controls.
Not likely the above will ever get fixed, but being these are my only gripes, I still enjoy flying her.

Cowling flaps do work.
The cabin light i am nog sure but the panel is great.
As for the mixture, seems to be the same as the Arrows. Works but needs a LOT of leaning.

Yup, it’s a shame there is no heat blur, especially given they added effects for aircraft start up.

Probably gonna pick this one up soon. Been in my wishlist forever.

“Arrows?” Please explain. I’m comparing the instrument readouts to the placard numbers. This used to work well prior to the last update but are not even close now. When they re-tuned the engine after a sim update, they neglected to revise the leaning logic.

The flaps work, sure. They’re either open or closed but no ‘animation,’ i.e, you do not see them slowly opening and closing.

Not really complaining, just listing gripes that are likely not getting fixed.

Yeah the Arrows from Just Flight. Never noticed the lack of animation tbh as i am inside when i click those buttons.

Yeah it is far from perfect. Startup sounds are meh and the temps don’t really change a lot with the cowlflaps etc.

Please can anyone tell me whether VR zoom works in this aeroplane? It looks, in this topic, that it didn’t work in January but has it been updated?
Thanks.

Thanks for this checklist. It’s been helpful.

Love the Skymaster, especially for the unique t/o technique of starting the roll on only the rear engine, then bringing up the front engine power as you get moving and are sure the rear engine is good. Loads of character!

Is the DME gauge bugged for anyone? The last time I flew it, I was getting some really bizarre readings from it.

Which “gauge” specifically and what bizarre readings? I have not seen anything (roughly 60 hrs flying in this airplane).

It’s right there in my comment, the DME gauge. Last time I flew this I was getting negative distance or speed readings, can’t remember at the moment.

The technical term for that is the DME instrument, hence my confusion. Wanted to make sure you were not talking about the HSI, which could also be referenced by some as the DME “gauge”. Anyway, I’ve never seen a negative number on the DME distance value. It might display a negative speed if you are not flying directly towards the VOR. In this situation, the system cannot calculate a speed.

What about the toe brake animation (left brake makes both copilot pedals depress, right brake makes both pilot pedals depress)? I know it is not the biggest deal, but it kinda bothers me, and now that I noticed it, I can’t get it off my mind.

I did a few test flights last night after not using it for a while and the DME worked fine, so my previous issue must’ve been a messed up VOR or something.

Some more flying in the mixer.

Finally caved and bought the C337. It’s…not awful, I’d say a 6 out 10. The external engine audio is a tad too loud for my liking. Can’t seem to find the Altimeter, only the Alt. Calibrator.

Love the design and aesthetically, it looks fantastic. Carenado is always exceptional with their models.

These are very loud aircraft, with a distinct sound. The inline engines make a noise unlike any other twin I’ve ever heard.

I’ve read it has to do with the rear propeller cutting through the prop wash of the front propeller. Someone who knows about vibration theory and fluid dynamics could likely explain the root cause. It’s above my pay grade.

The Skymaster has a loyal fan club, that’s for sure!

Had a fabulous view from the C337 a few days ago.

Taking off in a crosswind basically destroys this plane. lol. It gets pushed around bad, but it’s fun.
