Carenado Mooney M20R Ovation

I do hope the patch fixes what was broken so the Carenado planes work again. I really like flying the Mooney and C182. Fingers are crossed. By the same token though, I’m not holding my breath.

I think it must be expected for both the addon devs and us.

With the latest update he mooney still crashes when clicking the knobs, the yoke disappears when clicking over it so seems we still need some fix from Carenado to get the other half…

Yeah, not holding my breath there either. Carenado have a long reputation with the other sims of not being on top of updates. I really do hope I’m wrong, and I might be, as they’ve actually been somewhat responsive fixing issues initially with the C182 and Mooney, but I wouldn’t expect to see a fix from them any time in the next week.

It takes weeks for the third party developers to get updates pushed through whatever process Microsobo has and onto the Marketplace (as seen with some airport updates)

The sim gets patched every two weeks, potentially breaking things.

By the time any third party developer can react to something getting broken, produce and test a fix, and get it through the Marketplace release process…Microsobo may have broken even more and different things in the next release.

Microsobo are the one bragging about “we are making a platform” in all the Dev Q&As. They have clearly not thought through how to actually do that. This current situation as I’ve described above is not sustainable. It’s a never ending moving of the goalposts.

A smart design decision might have been to modularize the APIs and code such that add-ons built against old API releases could continue to call the version they were built against even as new versions were made available. That would be a true 21st century platform.

At least with other sims it is months between major releases.

We discussed this in other threads since this problem arose and it seems this time it was not on Carenados side, although some things may also be in their responsibility (hence the clever reply TouringHawk2856 which talks of “2 halves” of the solution)

In the MSFS framework Carenado are like the provider of the trailer and it seems the patch created problems with the trailer coupling (in software terms there are countless couplings so each may be negotiated individually but this does not really matter here)

It shows again that it isn’t ideal to develop software modules while the framework is still under construction. But this is simply the situation. We have bought a car that broke down and is currently in the car dealership for repair. I’m not happy with it but I understand enough about software to believe that this was no bad intentions from either Asobo or Carenado and they will provide a fix, although this may take some time.

And among all the naysaying and negativity. The approach, chaotic as it is, also the has a potential advantage. If Asobo regularly updates the SDK while developers are already heavily stressing it with inventive creations, and problems and feature requests are discovered in such dramatic ways, there may be the chance that the SDK can better cater for the needs of developers. In contrast to an SDK that is final and set in stone before planemakers could even lay their hands on it. But this also takes time, a long time in fact. It could just mean that the end result is better.

A more likely outcome of things being broken every 2 or 4 weeks is that third party developers will choose not to make content for MSFS.

Nah i think more people will make content but only after the SDK is finished and the sim is stable

Still (or again) rocking if HDG is on with the AP with the newest Ovation and MSFS version as of today.

Both the Carenado Mooney Ovation and PA44 are in my “Official” folder, but do not appear in my list of aircraft. Hence, can’t fly them. Not good.

And, my “Marketplace” tab is greyed out. I have no access to the Marketplace.

Any suggestions to fix would be appreciated. Thanks!!

when i used to fly a 172 then 182 then Cherokee 6 in the 80’s the Mooney 201 was the plane many lusted after because of its speed and economy and, yes, it was referred to as the porshe of the sky. I knew I would never fit in one so I didn’t consider it seriously.
There was no m20r i remember BUT this plane has the best flying characteristics, I like the retro cockpit with the Garmin gps and full ap. Feels comfortable so far. It handles like an airplane and performance is outstanding. and the speed brakes, wow what a great idea and they work. This one may be my regular flyer for a while.
The 182 carenado does not really remind me of flying feel wise but I like to fly it. I still have problems with its autopilot nd can’t use it till i am level flight and perfectly trimmed and it is hard to trim. The mooney trims like it should.

come on friend, share with me, I’m crazy about this aircraft!

its on the marketplace best $29 i spent all week

Dangit, don’t say nice things about the marketplace items, I don’t need an excuse to start dropping money there already.

Come on you only live once :joy:

Ugh, I want to see it but I can’t open the game right now!! You said it’s Carenado? It’s weird that they don’t they list any of their MSFS2020 releases on their site.

I was wondering that too. Maybe because they are only sold through the marketplace. They haven’t Tweeted about it either, as far as I’ve seen.
But there is a Youtube video already where someone has taken it for a test drive.

Ey! can you share the link? I can’t find the video

We need a flight review! Steam gauges make it soooo tempting!

Really? I am a little bit hesitant, since the C182T was kind of a downer
