Carenado Piper PA-44 Seminole

yep. IT Crowd’s “have you tried to turn it off and on again” is a well known mantra.

the only catch, like I wrote above, is that it works, on the 1st run after re-installing.
as soon as you relaunch the sim, restart the pc or in any way, reload the plane, the HSI compass will be stuck.
it only works on the 1st run. there must be some state, variable or configuration saved somewhere.

I never get tired of being right.

there’s a file, in C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\KHE\4228290007

filename is: CARENADO-AIRCRAFT-PA44-SEMINOLE

delete the file, restart the sim, HSI works.

any attempt to reload the plane, or the sim, without deleting that file and the HSI will be broken.

This is great info. Thanks.

Edit: just checked mine. An old file. I updated mine on Thursday but this file is dated 9/1/2021. There are other old files for other addons in that folder too.

That would be simple to script. Launch the sim, persist till the sim closes, then have it delete the file, and exit.

something like that. It would be safer to delete it both when starting and when exiting.
if you CTD the file won’t be deleted so it’s safer to remove it at both ends of the operation.
it gets recreated at every restart and is a binary file, have no clue of what that thing contains. There’s another one for the mooney and for the longez, all planes bought from the marketplace. the one I bought from other 3rd party does not create any item in that folder above mentioned.

now it’s time for my paycheck for the debug consultancy with this people. :moneybag:

I’ve just performed two back to back flights around Switzerland. I had live weather on both, and the HSI/Compass worked during both fights.

@EvidencePlz, I actually restart my PC before every flight, even going so far as to shut down the sim in between flights if I’m doing them back to back. I recommend that everyone do the same, as well. I don’t know if it’s in my head or what, but that simple step seems to make things smoother, faster, and more stable than not doing it. :man_shrugging:

ever heard about satire? how come can “clouseau” be an insult?
you should take the world less seriously, it really helps.
in alternative, you can simply ignore my posts. that helps as well.

I have a feeling about that folder and its contents.
Since there are only marketplace related items in it I suspect that those binary files are a sort of regkey for the purchases.
The not working instrument is simply the result of an invalid token that disables an intrument, just like it would happen if you “pirate” an addon from someone’s else pc by simply copying the files under official/etc/etc.
The non working instruments are simply the copy protection system. Probably something is not working then.

I must admit that I did not looked that detailed and I did not tried rnav aproach, but I do recal that plane did follow localizer. I have to test that.

I just tried RNAV 36 aproach to LYPG. I realised that id did not include LOC nut I said why not test rnav in general. I discovered that after little fiddling inbetween nav and app mode, that plane started to follow aproach altitudes too. I climbed to 3100 at one point as chart required (spawned me on 1100 ft) and after I passed small hill, next point required 1140 ft, so I set VS at about 400 ft/min and realiced that as I was in AProach mode, AP turned of VS and started to follow VNAV profil right down to the letter. I slightly missed couple of ft nefore touchdown, but you wound not let it fly it to touchdown in reality anyway. I was amazed by discovery since Ithought that VNAV dont work in game and I thought that PA 44 cannot do it anyway. Now i love this plane even more. :sunglasses:
I think plane should be switched to aproach mode as soon as you hit point of aproach marked on map and if there is vnav in it, plane will start to follow it. It would be nice if someone else can test that too.
I am not sure about other planes thou.

The crater is definitely where it should be. I tried my hand at landing the C-152 in there like some young “aviators” apparently did once. I made it in and out, as I recall they only manage the landing.

Guys I found a new feature. Maybe I should call it “simulated engine failure but without an engine failure”

When you fly straight and level in a nice night flight over germany (maybe any other country) and you wonder why your wind changed from 1:1 like real life to 200% what it should be plus turbulence that get you 60° banks, just put your own weather in. If you do so, you will see the new feature. For example changing the temps to IRL temps reported nearby the plane will give you full left rudder. Isnt that nice. You can also change the ceiling which will also give you the full left rudder. Basically any parameter will give you that. Fantastic

The RNAV approaches on autopilot works fine, it’s HSI that is bugged.
It’s locked to VLOC mode, and can’t be switched to GPS. The plane will fly the approach, but the HSI won’t show you correct info for your Xte / CDI, so hand flying RNAV approaches or following GPS routes becomes impossible using the CDI needle, since it’s still locked to whatever you have dialed in the NAV1 radio.

I can’t replicate this… Have you tried with other planes?

I just made this ATP livery using Substance Painter from scratch & Photoshop, not just a “re-color” of the included liveries.

The livery contains 8k textures for Ultra high quality decals, and highly realistic PBR texture properties simulating slightly unwashed surfaces,
(like the plane would look most often, instead of brand new showroom polish)
, also dark panel / blue interior for the cockpit, and Piper logos on the yokes.

ATP Flight School is the largest flight school in the USA, and has the largest multi-engine training fleet in the world, consisting of +90 Piper Seminoles.

Drag & Drop installation, file found here:

Enjoy!

Yeah this does not happen to any other plane on my end. Might be just an issue on my end tho, but I found it funny and wanted it to share ^^

Could this be done for the Mooney as well??

Unfortunately I’m not an owner of the Mooney, so it would be more than tricky to do, without being able to unwrap the model and systematically test in the sim while texturing… But if I ever pick it up, I’d be more than happy to put those decals on the Mooney.

There is a setting you can assign in controls Toggle window de-ice . Assign that to a keyboard key ( i chose i for ice ) press the said key when it happens and hey presto a couple of seconds later its gone .

@Grinde81, would it be a lot of effort to put just the black panel in the default liveries? I like it more than what comes standard…
