I had lightbulb moment.

Coming in to downwind setup squared for a slower cruise, one should be able to pull back the manifold pressure to idle, then prop lever full forward. This should help slow the airplane down faster.

Then don’t touch the prop and fly like it’s a normal 172. Keeping in mind the extra flaps at the last notch.

The sound profiles for a lot of aircraft don’t quite capture the idling correct so it sounds like keeping the pitch high and the throttle closed sounds ‘right’, but it actually keeps the aircraft moving along quite a bit. It’s a bit exaggerated when you flatten the pitch and takes a while for the sound sample to settle into that nice idle burble. Push it in at 75kts with a closed throttle and it sounds like you’re going for max climb even though you’re quickly slowing down. I don’t think they have that aspect sampled, and it’s with most of the default pistons.

That makes sense now. I’ve learned to ignore that sound aspect but I didn’t know it was a sim limitation. I just thought I couldn’t trust my ears.

That helped quite a bit! I think I was hearing the engine and over-reacting to the sound.

Anyway, I did a few more patterns and nailed them nicely. Killing the throttle and dropping the last notch of flaps really helps to put it down on target.

Once I even came in 200 feet high at the start of the downwind, but idle manifold pressure and full prop a little early got me to 75 knots where I needed.

Ok, ok, plane is not suitable in icing conditions, but…

Here’s a mod that changes the fonts and faces of the instruments of the Tail Dragger and Reims Rocket to look more like standard Cessna instruments and will give you the option of a black panel cover.

Reminds me of a late January flight up the James Bay Coast with Air Creebec in a Dash 8-100 who’s windshield heat was having trouble keeping up.

No doors on those planes so can see right in as the F/O got a card out of his wallet to start scraping frost off.

I’m not sure if I’ve going crazy but every time I get back in another one of my favorites, the Black Square A36, I keep thinking something about it doesn’t look as good as your work. Are you using higher resolution textures?

I’ve started to work again on the mod (it’s hard to have the computer running when it’s more than 30°C in the appartement)

There will be a third plane variant :

I’ll be using the existing floats from my old amphibian mod.
A few things have to be redone, interior controls will also be different.
Textures would benefit a rework too.

Would love a caburetted version with an O-320 with 150hp or 160hp and carburetor heat and without fuel boost pump. And with maybe a possibility to select between large and small tanks. Maybe a C172M or C172P
Those still make up the majority of trainers where I come from. The fuel injected C172S are quite rare here. Have never seen one in real life so far. Most C172 here are Reims Cessnas (quite a few Rockets here too)

Don’t want this old bird too fancy. Not big on throwing a GTN into every single aircraft. The BN2 is bizarre with it in there. Needs to be just the right amount of clunky. Some planes just aren’t right with a fancy pants Sheetz MTO kiosk in them.

I am having trouble with the autopilot after about a hour & 1/2 of flight it can’t follow the heading bug and some times starts doing 360s I hope you can fix that so it’s perfect
