After a few years working on different C172 variants, it’s now time to loop back to the beginning !
Three years ago, I started with the bushkit and the taildragger : exterior modifications on the excellent 3D models from Asobo. Later on, interior modifications on the G1000 cockpit, and later a mix of both to create the Reims Rocket / Hawk XPII. This led me to redo the cockpit with a retro classic gauges.
It’s now time to retrofit all of this in my first mods, starting with the taildragger.
The Cessna Skyhawk Taildragger is a powerfull member of the short take-off and landing capable Skyhawk family built on a Lycoming 210HP STC. It has :
large and stable bush wheels
Sportsman STOL Camber Cuffs on the wings
Increased flaps angle
enhanced brakes
I’m currently working to add the following features to the plane :
working doors, windows, sunvisors
a configuration book to choose all options
wheel chocks, tiedowns, covers, gpu
VFR maps on a cardboard on the yoke
a tablet to display external applications (sky4sim, fs mca, vfrmap…)
visible pilot, copilot, passengers
custom seats configuration (pax, cargo)
checklist cards and flip checklist box
various radio stacks (vfr, all radios, pms750, tds750nxi)
Wow. Great timing! I’ve been looking for an old-school bush plane with a bit of extras for exploring Alaska. I assume this will include the classic steam gauge version? (fingers crossed!).
Unloading cargo will not be available, at least, not at first. The angle on ground is difficult to deal with external parts : They share the same model as the plane, so it’s not possible to “spawn” elements correctly on the ground (I wish I could do it)
I managed to get something with chocks, tiedowns, and even GPU :
I LOVE the Reimes panel cover, can almost put my finger on it and feel that cheap plastic groan squeaky squeaky. Please put a red interior on one of them!
Unfortunately, the panel files and texture.cfg won’t be fully compatible with older versions. It will be necessary to convert the liveries (only config files)
But it will be easy to use (and change) a specific interior :
[fltsim]
# For variants compat
fallback.1=..\texture
fallback.2=..\texture.CLEAN\
fallback.3=..\texture.DIRTY\
fallback.4=..\texture.interior-red
fallback.5=..\texture.INTERIOR
# For Asobo compat
fallback.6=..\..\..\..\texture\
fallback.7=..\..\..\..\texture\Gauges
fallback.8=..\..\..\..\texture\AS1000
fallback.9=..\..\..\..\texture\detailMap
fallback.10=..\..\..\..\texture\Glass
fallback.11=..\..\..\..\texture\Planes_Generic
Once again, amazing work! I normally hate tail draggers and just put up with them for the warbirds.
Something about the new interior work you are doing has a realistic touch most of the big developers aren’t able to replicate. I can’t even pinpoint it exactly, but I’m literally getting fooled I’m in the real thing when inside of VR.
Don’t discount the quality off the work you are doing.
I just wanted to report that I was flying today and I found I couldn’t adjust the heading bug on the G5 MFD. Dunno if it was something I was doing wrong or a bug, but thought I’d let you know.
Great work with the new taildragger version. Absolutely stunning! Thanks very much.
I’m trying to convert one of my liveries which has a fixed registration from the Reims Rocket to the Taildragger. But no matter what I do with the panel.cfg, I always get an autogenerated registration displayed. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?
I don’t have tooltips on, but the cursor changed and the knob highlighted itself, but I was unable to move it with mousewheel or click and drag.
Not sure what you mean by all controls locked? I use the lock method, if that’s what you mean. Not legacy.
I’ll give it another go and report back.
EDIT: Ok, just tested and yes, right knob is not working on G5 MFD with either lock or legacy controls. It turns visually but makes no change to the heading indicator. However, just saw you have an update available, so I’m no longer on the latest version.
Nah the PFD is fine. I can set the barometer. I also grabbed the latest version and it’s the same. Is this an instrument you created? Or is it in other aircraft too? Maybe I could try it on another plane?
Here’s a mod that changes the fonts and faces of the instruments of the Tail Dragger and Reims Rocket to look more like standard Cessna instruments and will give you the option of a black panel cover.
