[CHARITY] Terry Fox Marathon of Hope (Stage 2) Race Day and Results Thread

Hello everyone! First, my apologies for not getting this thread created until now. I’ve been extremely busy this week. Sorry for the delay.

The second stage of the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope, is less than 24 hours away from the time of this writing! Here’s some important information pilots will need to know for the race itself and how to submit your results after you complete your run.

Event Logging

To ensure everyone competes fairly, all racers must log their flights using simair.io. Be sure to start the SimAir client before launching MSFS, and make sure your flight is being logged on the website. If you have a CTD, you will need to exit and manually restart the SimAir client before loading MSFS again. Note: Xbox players are excluded from this requirement as SimAir only works on PC.

Race Start Time

Wheels up at exactly 8:00am on September 1 in Thunder Bay (Eastern Daylight Time). You can use this countdown clock to see the exact race start time in your local time zone.

2021-09-11T12:00:00Z

Server

All pilots must fly on the East USA server.

Live Race Leaderboard

Community member @BlueYonder9259 has created a website that pulls SimAir data and displays everyone’s position and remaining distance in real-time. You can track your position in the standings at gorace.net.

Discord

If you would like to chat with other race participants, feel free to use my Discord server. I highly encourage everyone racing to join the endurance race voice channel. During previous charity events, everyone said this was a great way to enhance the camaraderie of the event and make new friends with other flight sim community members.

Questions

If you have any questions or need a rule clarified during the race, the best way to reach me is to post your question in the chat of my Twitch channel. Since I’ll be flying the race myself, I won’t be actively checking this forum thread during the event.

Charity

While the goal of this race is to have fun with other members of the MSFS community, remember that we are also raising money for cancer research through The Terry Fox Foundation. Please donate if you can, and if you’re streaming your race, please ask your viewers to consider donating as well. If you make a donation through this fundraising link, we can track how much money the MSFS community collectively donated! Our fundraising goal for this event is CAD $10,000. Through the generous contributions from the community, we have already raised over $6,500! Thanks so much for your support!

How to Watch

The following racers (listed below in alphabetical order) have indicated they intend to livestream their run. Stop by their channels during the event and show your support!

How to submit your completion time

When your race is over, post a screenshot and a link to your simair.io logbook in this thread showing that you have a “Parked” status at Victoria (CYYJ), similar to the example below. The deadline to submit your results for Stage 2 is 2359Z on Wednesday, September 15. Anyone who has not submitted a completion time by the deadline will have their race time logged as 96:00:00.

Good luck, everyone! We’ll see you in the skies tomorrow morning. As always, please remember to promote the Terry Fox Foundation fundraising campaign and donate if you can.

Well, what an event! My troubles started in the first 10 minutes, when I discovered that the SR22 package was locked up with the world update content pack that I didn’t download. That set me up at around 10kts slower than everyone else… But that’s only around 30 minutes lost over the day, so I could weather it. The big issue came on approach to Lethbridge AB. CTD on approach, setting me back almost exactly 2 hours… In total, this race SUCKED for me. Awful. But, it was a totally fun event! And I would do it all over again.

Well, this 2nd stage was really demanding and FlightZelle and I have had our very special duel through the Rockies

I’ve taken some impressive pictures I would like to share with you… no big story this time. Everything worked perfectly esp. my fuel-stop and downhill-strategy finally boosted me to Victoria just a couple of seconds in front of my hardest opponent

Start in Thunder Bay in the morning with patches of fog every where. Due to the wind conditions I’ve decided to fly low close to the trees.

20+ Knots tailwind in the Canadian Lowlands… YES!

My fuel stops were close to the mangenta line at smaller airports. No larger diversion needed and everything worked as planned.

The terrain was constantly climbing and you think with an elevation of 5000 Feets, you are already flying quite high. But then you see the Rockies standing in your way like a huge wall. You look up and see the bad weather and think… ■■■■… this is challanging.

In fact I was only for 1-2 times in IMC conditions. Thanks to InTheBlueYonders’ gorace.net map view with an aviational map I could use the printed Minimum Elevation Figures.

Feeling like the king of the world when flying through the Rockies.

There is some green in end of the tunnel…

Deeply impressed of the views and simulation…

Just speechless…

Had to fly over Mount Baker with an Elevation of 10800 Feet. The MEF in this Sector is at 11200 Feet. I was at 9500 Feet but couldn’t climb any further because of the OAT already showing just 1 Degree Celsius. So I tried to fly close without scratching the Mountain while being in IMC. Quite stupid idea and a close call… heck it worked… nothing to do in real life!

Getting closer to the Destination.

This pic is for you FlightZelle, have you seen me smiling

In the final Minutes FlightZelle and I have had a close duel. In this picture you see on my right hand side the green lights of his aircraft while on the left hand side in the front you see the landing lights of Victoria.

FlightZelle and me after our private duel. We both made it cross Canada in Microlights and I’ve had you on my monitor since Medicine Hat, where you have refueled

Note: Leg 4 Departure seems to has me departing from a different airport but turns out to be a seaplane base at edge of 1S1. Weird bug, just pointing it out before someone else does.
