Although this is great new, I’m hoping it’ll be available for MS2024 from the get go.

Was excited to see this in the inbox this evening!

So did Asobo open up the camera API then or is it a more limited version of FSX/P3D ChasePlane?

If the former, I wonder if FSRealistic will get an update too.

What does it do?

Does this bring flyby views and tower view? If not, i really dont see the hype.

It does specifically mention ‘FlyBy™ cam’ on the OP, and the OP is Technical Director for //42, so I guess he’d be in a position to know . I would assume Tower view depends on whether you can automatically find the tower position in space for a given airport. I should imagine you can.

If you’ve used ChasePlane in P3D you’ll be familiar with the cinematics, too. It will be cool to be able to orbit your aircraft in flight, or over the ground at the airport. Certainly for filming footage in the sim, it would be a game changer. I used to use it all the time for YouTube videos.

But to make this work it would imply that //42 has gained a level of control over the camera that hasn’t been possible before. I’d be very interested to understand how that’s been done.

ChasePlane is a complete camera system replacement built on proprietary code, it was not worked on in collaboration with MSobo.

Very exciting - Can’t wait to see what features/functionality it has.

The sim currently doesn’t have tower position data. As soon as they add that data (if they do), we’ll make tower views available. Right now we have runways and parking/gate locations. Already better than the default camera system!

First off, congrats on persisting with the pestering of Jorg to finally get your way

Guess those t-shirts paid off

I’ve not used it in previous versions of the sim. How does it work for / in VR? I imagine the cockpit-centric features will not be useful?

How will the interface to manipulate external cameras look and work? Does it work comfortably in VR for those features of it?

By including the De Havilland Canada CL-415 in the trailer they are all but admitting this will be for both MSFS versions. The only folks who had that aircraft in FS20 were those who preordered FS24. This is a very welcome announcement.

But when?!

Dont get me wrong but this you can do today with the dronecam. Ive never used chaseplane because im exclusively in VR. Just want to know what this camera addon can do that the dronecam cant.

I never used ChasePlane …EZdok Camera was my tool of choice in the FSX/P3D days.

Sooo … what does this tool actually offer that we can’t already do with the drone/showcase camera? Sell me on it!

The trailer doesn’t show much of its actual features, does it? Others are asking the same thing, and they’re not answering directly. Curious…

SimFX can be very resource heavy depending on the effects it’s generating, and how many, so I’m skeptical of the performance of a camera application.

Since they didn’t get access to the camera API, I’m much more curious about what this product can’t do.

My faith in anything from //42 is really very low at this moment. What they did with SimFX charging for individual expansions for each aircraft was kind of low to my eyes.

Now they release this teaser, trailer or something that shows almost no features.

My guess is that they hacked the camera system overriding the memory or something like that and are going to offer a product with about half the features of Chaseplane for some price and promise more features coming later.

I hope to be very wrong about my guess but as I said my faith in them is really low at the moment.
