ChasePlane for MSFS... It's happening! [by Parallel 42]

Edited title & tags to clarify this feature is provided by Parallel 42.

They already said that the MSFS2024 upgrade will come later down the road due to the current stability of the sim and the will be releasing MSFS2020 version first. They do have working version they said for 2024 but that they want to wait until the current state improves of it.

YES:double_exclamation_mark: This is awesome, I’ve been hoping for a product that would provide those kinda features.

It’s such an important part of the sim. For me, it comes right after flight model, weather, and system depth. It’s a shame that the API wasn’t exposed to 3rd party Devs. That suggestion has been on the radar since the early 2020 days.

I know there are many that are satisfied with the default camera system. But for me, I found it lacking.

Man… this is extremely good news😊

A new video dropped yesterday.

There will be a … subscription service with a free 1 year access but that will be optional you retain the whole functionality except cloud saves. People were pulling hairs but I’m ok with this if they want to provide saves to the cloud it is ok to charge for that service only if you need it.

Now the main concern:

There is no camera API for MSFS 2020 or 2024 so whatever chaseplane is doing is doing it misteriously, maybe they have researched and reverse engineered the camera vars and are directly writing to the sim memory, maybe it is something different.

Anyway I’m only using 2020 as a backup sim now so when this is available for 2024 I will take a look.

I’m interested to know what Asobo and MS can say about this, I know some tools hacking the memory of the sim are not allowed to be discussed in this forum so I would like to know if this product is a different thing.

I am more interested to see the finished product, instead of what Asobo/MS have to say.

And for what reason would they comment on a 3pd product at all?

They’ve said before they don’t want addons to rewrite memory and effectively hack their way into the sim.

They have previously directly or indirectly banned the discussion of “hacks” that where writing directly to the memory of the sim. We are not here to discuss the rational for that. The rules are the rules and we must accept them.

So my concern is that if this is the same case and will also be banned from discussion in the forums or not.
If not then I can rest assured the tool is working in a different way than those other tools.

To be honest I don’t care about the possible issues. The devs have had so many years to fix things. There are other forums also.

A gentle reminder to please stay on-topic with respects to ChasePlane (the product itself, features, etc..) versus what may or may not happen in terms of moderation.

Thanks!

Will ChasePlane work in career mode?

Ask //42 if it’s for MSFS2024

This is already posted on their site.

ChasePlane will debut on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. As Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 evolves, we will continue developing ChasePlane for it at a reasonable pace. While we do have a “working” build, the simulator’s current state makes it difficult to commit to a public release. Frequent changes create challenges for efficient development, and we cannot afford to waste time chasing a moving target.

Once the 2024 version of ChasePlane is ready, it will be made available for free to current owners of the 2020 version for a limited time after release.

Also, will it work with Tobii/FaceTrackNoIR?
That’s a deal breaker for me at least.

They do not mention Tobii, but do mention;

  • Works in VR
  • Works with TrackIR

Good to know. That was something I wasn’t too clear on myself, though honestly I’m on the fence about the whole product. I’m not sure it’ll fit into my personal use cases most of the time.

“Works in VR” - when this is on the same level as Flow Pro, no thank you.

Funny is that //42 thought it would be better to show menus instead of what Chaseplane accutally do. Well well building a hype…

Agree. I’m not really familiar with Chaseplane and my impression from that video is just how daunting it all looks if I need a 10 minute onboarding. Menus upon menus, all a bit tedious.

I just wish we got a much more succinct video around what it actually does and its potential, and then get the tutorial later.

A lot of people fly Fenix, PMDG or iniBuilds aircraft without going through the entire user manual for the aircraft. You don’t have to go through the entire tutorial to use ChasePlane. As long as you have the basics understood (first 2:36 of the video), you’re good to go.

This 15 minutes on-boarding will save you a lot of time in the long run and will make your experience in the sim a lot better. This process is nothing compared to the hours it takes to figure out control assignments the first day you got the sim installed. Once it’s done, it’s done.

We’ll be releasing more videos in the coming days showing a few of the core features of ChasePlane.

What we’ve learned from the FSX/P3D version of ChasePlane is that teaching people how it works from day one is the most important thing. It prevents confusion and misinformation from spreading when people are talking about a feature or function. It also answers a lot of questions from users of the FSX/P3D version of CP.

We’re confident the product will speak for itself after release. A lot of content showing what it does will be released by content creators.
