Checking for Updates Screen - Stuck

Hi , I experienced the same issue every time with an update- download. After downloading a 300MB the download hanged. I Closed FS2020 down. Restarted FS2020 in Administrator mode. Right click the app. No problems all rest GB smoothly downloaded.

Same for me. Works ok. Strange snack in the download procedure.

Hi, right click on the app icon. select: run as administrator.

Hi, I have the same problem…
The PC restarted while installing the update (maybe because of the Windows Update), now I have an error on the last Windows update (I can not install it, tryed it 10 times or more, everytime the same error: 0x8007000d) and the problem in MSFS…
Maybe the update error in MSFS is because oft he update error in Windows…

Selecting Run As Administrator has no effect for me

I had this issue last night. This is what worked for me:

  1. Close down FS.
  2. Go to the folder Packages/Official. (Same directory that has the Community folder, but go into Official instead). Delete any incomplete .fspatch files at the bottom.
  3. Relaunch FS. The sim should begin downloading again from where it left off.

How can you tell if any are incomplete? I see 5 .fspatch files dated 4/13/2021

I think the .fspatch files are deleted once their download is completed and the patch has been applied.
So simply delete all .fspatch files.

Ok thank you I will give that a shot.

You’re correct. If there are any .fspatch files there, delete them.

And…is around noon too early to break out the Bourbon?

Coppersens, You are my HERO. I had the eternal “Checking for updates” and followed your instructions to remove everything from the Official folder, but with a twist: I only removed files modified yesterday, according to date. This got my downloads started. I had no joy attempting to move back the above files after download started. Thanks!

Well the updater sometimes gets stuck for some reason, there’s a few tricks to try out but seemingly none is working for everyone.
The moving back of the files just saves you re-downloading the ones that haven’t been changed or updated successfully. Your approach is valid as well, it depends at which state the sim gets stuck (see also the .fspatch approach mentioned above).

Glad it helped you getting it sorted. The sky is calling

I had no luck after removing the several .fspatch files. I let the sim run while it was in the Checking for Updates mode for about 45 minutes with no success.

For me, there were no .fspatch files at all. I am so tired of this simulator breaking every time it updates.

I’ve just finished the update and trying to load MSFS, it goes in and gets to the point of where the paris background shows up then it just loads permanantly.

I can confirm that Coppersens’ work around appears to have for me too. I actually first re-installed my entire C: partition (MSFS is on a separate F: drive), thinking something with the core app got corrupt. That did bring me back to ver 1.14xx but I still had the endless loop checking for updates.

So I followed Coppersons’ advice and removed all files in the Official / OneStore folder that was dated when I tried the update (for me that was yesterday). Started up MSFS again and it went from checking updatets to immediately beginning the 25GB once again! It’s downloading now as I type. Yea!

I have finally succeeded in getting the 1.15.7.0 fully installed and being able to run MSFS again. A special thanks to Coppersons earlier tip regarding the .fspatch files and removing them from the OneDrive directory from yesterday’s update attempt. I finally ended up removing 168 files from that directory. Low and behold the update download and decompression of those files took place. The Bourbon is coming out in celebration. And, thank you to others of you that posted your thoughts and potential tips to get back up and running.

Could you possibly tell me the names of the files in the one store folder that came from the update. I just tried the method of moving all of them out and back in but now they all say modified today.

I had attempted my original update yesterday morning 4-13-2021. I did a sort by date in the OneDrive folder to group all files together with the 4-13-2021 date. Then to be safe I did a Cut of all of them and pasted them into another temporary folder just in case of further problems. Fortunately I did not need them since MSFS got into the update mode when I started the sim again. I let the update proceed and it took quite a while. During that I did nothing else on my PC to avoid another CTD. It all worked out.
