Thank you BafflingBerry63
I had this too but i figured out that the auto converting tool for liveries from the fbw updater caused this. I deleted all A320 liveries in my community folder and it worked again.
I have the same problem.
@BafflingBerry63
there are a lot of folders, do you deleted the whole folder or only the new files of each folder?
best regards
Delete only the last ones. The files of the Official folder with the last date, when the download was interrupted!
I deleted the latest files, then it starts to download over 40GB of files.
After that, I saw the blue progress bar with a black background ( no picture ) and then CTD.
I deinstalled the Sim and now I have to download 172GB… I hope it will work after the new installation.
Hi guys, I was having this issue where it got stuck on the “checking for updates” screen.
I checked my community folder and found that I had copies of all my A32NX liveries - one livery would be called “Asobo_A320_NEO_AAL” for example, and its duplicate would be called “Asobo_A320_NEO_AAL_a32nx”.
I deleted all of the lines that didn’t have the “_a32nx”, rebooted the sim and whilst it got stuck for about 5 seconds on the updates screen, it is now running normally. I think this issue was caused by me using the FBW installer to convert the liveries so they’re compatible, but the old ones were not deleted. It May just be a coincidence that I did this and it’s now working, but worth a shot for others who have issues.
EDIT: Scratch that I take it back - now not working again, god knows what’s happening with it.
EDIT 2: Now gets past the update screen but hangs on the “new activities” screen. It’d be nice to have some official acknowledgement from Microsoft about this issue at this point.
Hi everyone,
I am trying my best to make the simulation to pass the 'checking for update" loop but can’t make it to work. I tried all above suggestion but no luck.
For info, the community folder was and is empty ( i tried to move it out but did not change anything).
Inside the official folder, all downloaded files (before this update) are here but no files at all were downloaded for this new update. (i checked the dates)
Graphic card, windows 10, are up to date.
So if anybody has a miracle to recommend i’m all ears, it looks like this is what it takes to make FS to work in 2021.
Just an update: I deleted and removed my flight simulator 2020 and left it for a few days and I then decided to reinstall everything back and the good thing is, the “checking for updates” had resolved itself.
I only deleted the nav data in the official folder,so that an update was found. Then it worked for me.Could to this every time ,better than to wait 10 minutes.

Same problem here. One week ago it finally worked again after all the stuttering issues and now: I can’t pass the checking for update folder. I’m definitely not going to reinstall the whole sim including all the updates, this would take days. It’s hard to express how much this sim is getting on my nerves, I’ve never seen something like this miserable and annoying software.
I performed the latest update (1.15.7.0). The 1.16GB seemed to go fine and then it started the 22GB update. There it appears to have stalled. So I clicked pause on the downloading and rebooted the PC. Now whenever I start MSFS it is stuck on “Checking Updates”. Currently running a timer and it is over 15 minutes! Is that normal? I cleaned out my Community folder to nothing and have tried starting MSFS through the MS Game Store site and through my local app but just keeps checking for updates. The version does say I am as 1.15.7.0.
I have the same exact issue, so good to know I am not the only one with it. I did the same as you but it just keeps on saying checking for updates.
exact same thing happened to me… rebooted 1000 times, emptied community folder, did windows updates, etc…
nothing is working… looks like uninstall / reinstall is in my future
Just shut down the sim and restart; it will pick up the download where it looped and continues.
That’s not the problem. The game is completely installed, it just gets stuck on the “Checking for Updates” screen.
Maybe try this approach, just delete the content.xml as it’s written here, it might help:
Another option is to move everything out of the Official folder, start the sim, it should state that it has to download >100GB. Let it start, then exit, delete the files from the Official folder (which it started to re-download) and move back the earlier moved original contents of the Offical folder back where they were.
I did not try this approach, so be careful. But that’s what I would try. Reinstalling the whole sim should be your last option.
I have the “Checking for Updates” endless loop also. My Community folder is empty. I had the update download successfully and files were decompressing to about 3/4 through the process then got a CTD. I am totally perplexed at this point.
I guess I will be the guinea pig and test this method out, I will tell you how it goes.
Running the game as Administrator fixed this issue for me.
How do you do that?
