Nope, Roland Laborie and @LagaffeVFR5476 are two different persons. Lagaffe is a very talented freeware dev. Dont know much about Laborie, but i feel like its a name i’ve heard for a long time, im sure he was around during the fsx days, possibly even before that.
Roger apologize then , Im pretty certain he is involved in this plane tough as I remember he posted dev screenshots of it ?
Yeah I was under the same impression that the CL 215 got posted together with the Catalina. I cannot find that post for the life of me though.
this is the thread with Lagaffe’s version.
Anyone know if the Mod for CL-215 fixes the cockpit size in VR?
This is the turboprop version.
Hi,
A few words to clarify the situation: Roland is a very good friend who publishes like me on pilote-virtuel.com . He is the author of the famous Rafale on FSX which made a lot of talk.
We are both French creators and have both developed similar aircraft in the past, including the Canadair CL-215.
To differentiate us, Roland chose the CL-215 with piston engine and I took the CL-215T with turbo engine whose flight model is more complicated to transcribe correctly.
The project I am working on currently, includes two SAGQ aircraft: a Canadair CL-215T and a Canso PBY-5A (Aircrafts from SAGQ : Canadair CL-215T and Canso PBY-5A).
My Canso is already very advanced and I expect to release a Beta version by the end of the year. It has a correct flight model, the instrument panel is at 40% of progress, two textures for the 702 and 712 SAGQ aircraft, advanced water management with weight management (lightening the total weight of the aircraft) during operations, retardant and water effects that I developed.
If you want more informations : go on the link above where I can speak of my works or on http://frenchvfr.free.fr my homesite for my creations.
Here it is the post for Roland’s stuff.
As a fellow french man, I would Say this well known piece of advice: rien ne sert de courir, il faut partir à point
As you can see from the general consensus here and there, planes that looks and feel as if they were developped back when the FSX days are badly welcomed when priced the same as before.
Time flies. So does technological advancement. Planes now needs to look as next gen as MSFS does although I know it’s a lot more work than before for one man or a same team as before. 3D modeling and texturing will require more skill than back in the days and certainly More Time alocated to it…
So take your time, up your game if needs be, Iron out enough of the bugs and be ready with something that you’d find a great deal if you were on the customer side
Just look at the difference how this Canadair was received compared to all the praise the Kodiak did get at roughly the same price tag.
Bon courage pour ton boulot sur cet avion
For yor information, I begin my Canso in 2011 and currently I have two versions of it : one for Prepar3D with PBR textures and one for MSFS with a damage mod management and software-based monitoring of ballast content.
Each simu has its own properties and a good developer should use its according to the needs and especially according to the SDK.
I develop since 2008 and after almost 14 years of creations, I think that MSFS must still progress so that we can have a good SDK which allows to realize what the graphic engine could give of better but for that it will be necessary to wait one more year according the rythm where Asobo improves this SDK.
Currently, the SDK don’t support officially amphibieans so we have to use some “tips/tricks” to get around the limitations: the floats have no drag on the flight model, the retractable floats are not well managed at the level of the wakes, etc …
PS: I have also a Savoia S-21 on “my desk” the Porco Rosso 's airplane, I think it will possible to make a MSFS version … very soon !
For the CL-215, we’re missing the typical engines sound. Volume max, open ears and listen only to the one with black on top of the engines in each video
Can you comment about the scale of the cockpit in VR ? IS it planned to be fixed ? @LagaffeVFR5476
I have sorry but I don’t use VR at home so my creations aren’t VR compliant.
If you have some money and buy a Quest 2 for me … I could probably look at the problem
Perhaps a LOD problem as this addon has only one LOD
I specify for the second time: I am a friend of Roland, developer like him but I am not the author of this CL-215. I does’nt want to do comment on his aircraft.
Aircraft creation is a very important project which take a lot of hours (6 months min.). With a recent SDK which change at each SU it become a paintful project ( between June and the last update I had to redo twice the wave effects I was preparing for Henrik Nielsen’s boat traffic ).
Many of those who posted above have probably never opened Blender to create a simple house so “Criticism is easy, art is difficult”.
So my advice: wait a bit for the update Roland is preparing
The design is very time consuming and though, it’s is rather mostly in sync with available 3DSMAX exporters. It’s been a time I’ve not had a look into the Blender exporter status, is all already gone forward and updated to latest MSFS revision ? Many hope the Blender exporter will be soon delivered inside the SDK install package as it was stated at some point
not sure about lod , migth just be a wrong scaling in 3D , other user said it was already a problem in the p3d version , the cockpit look gigantic in VR , knobs the size of my hand hahaha
For your information “Lagaffe” is a comic book character created by the cartoonist Franquin. This character is as well known in Europe as Snoopie is in your country.
Haha I know I just translated what it litteraly mean ^^ Im french also
I read that there was an update for the CL 215 today. Has this improved the aircraft or should I continue to avoid buying it?
Well it may well be that the SDK could be better. I don’t doubt that all. But since other independet devs like like Big Radials, Bagolu, JustFlight, Got Friends, Aerosoft, Flying Iron, Milviz or IndiaFoxTecho have managed to produce excellent aircraft with this SDK - some of which have swimmers or are flying boats - I don’t think the SDK is the primary reason for the state the CL-215 is in at the moment.
Contrary to Aerosoft (Twotter), Big Radials (Goose) or Got Friends (Discus) who decided to iron out some bugs before release, this dev here decided to jump onto the Christmas train and make some extra bucks with an unfinished and totally overpriced WIP. I mean he even used the sound files of the DA62 for crying out loud …
My attitude has always been: if because of the SDK or lack of anything else I can’t get it working, I won’t release it because it only will me make look bad.
Hello,
Let’s not mix everything up: Justflight, PMDG, Milziz, Flying Iron are companies with dozens of employeesn Got Friends, BigRadials, are teams with two or three people for the others they are freelancers like Rollus who works alone. As for Bagolu, without criticizing his work, it is a rework of an Asobo aircraft (no modeling from scratch) with very significant improvements that were spread over a full year.
Rollus has developed a Crusader on the first half of the year: Crusader which is not a bad addon. Then 6 months to make this CL is a bit short knowing that the SDK doesn’t include everything needed for amphibious. As for the Goose, it’s a seaplane effectively without water bomber capability and its portage started in September 2020 and it was released in beta then improved in 2 ou 3 times. Let’s compare what is comparable.
For this CL215, as far as I know, there were bad files uploaded and two days after the release and the update were on the site but Simmarket did not highlight the update over the release.
I completely agree on two points:
- the release of this file was made to coincide with Christmas
- the asking price for the plane in this state is too high.
Although I know Rollus, I have no interest in its creation since my CL-215T is even a competitor to it. I’m just trying to give some explanations for reactions that are sometimes excessive in my opinion.
Well now I stop feeding this thread that leads to nothing. I intervened because my name was mentioned and I wanted to clarify things. My projects are waiting for me and I have work to do.
