Clean install and latest Nvidia drivers 511.79 - Amazing

After a difficult week following the loss of my mother, I needed a break and wanted to fly again. I needed to boost my morale so MSFS is sometimes a hit or miss. It didn’t start well. I wanted to try SU8 beta but decided to revert back to current version. I lost the menu in the process which forced me to reinstall the entire sim😬. But the benefits are amazing.
I have a much smoother experience. On top of that when you install 511.79 you get the best MSFS (smooth, beautiful and responsive) experience I ever had since launch. Even if I have a 3090 FE wit an i9 10900k, this sim has never been this smooth. And I flying exclusively the A32NX in major metro like NYC or LA. Australia is even better (don’t know why flying in Europe and Australia allows for higher FPS). You should try but in my case this is exactly what I needed. Happy flying and remember to cherish all the little moments you can have with love ones. :pray:t5:

My condolences.

Just about everything is nice for me as well, except I noticed a lot of shimmering in the buildings around SLLP (flying a turboprop at low altitude during a mostly sunny day). I turned off TAA just to see what was going on with the geometry/shaders, and it got much worse than I expected. The problem only seemed to occur with buildings on high/ultra (DX11).

Has anyone tried HDR. Because every Nvidia driver going back to 496.68(Perfect) has been broken for HDR monitors!

Is that a touchscreen, above you?

HDR is working for me, at least I can enable it. Not sure if you meant it was broken in another way?

Condolences my friend.

Glad it’s working for you again. I am thinking of doing the same. Does it remove all folders? For example will I need to amend all my custom camera views and does it start with a fresh community folder?

Your settings are kept “in the cloud” and “should” be re-installed with a new installation.
I have heard of a couple instances though, where that didn’t happen.

No, it will not remove all folders, but I highly recommend you do that manually after you uninstall the sim (which includes deleting the Community folder)
However, if you want to keep your addons that you have in the community folder, keep a copy of that folder somewhere outside the sim file structure (paste in such as your Documents folder) and replace them when the reinstall is complete, and you have verified all is working good.

Bear in mind, a re-install can lead to problems trying to do so.
I would normally advise that unless you are having problems, leave well-enough alone.
Lately though, I have seen several posts stating that the sim did indeed work much better after a re-install.

Thank you :pray:t5:. Yeah doing this mess things up quite a bit. I even had to recalibrate throttle for the A32nx. My advice is to keep Community folder in a separate location or back it up. Mine was already separated. But I had to change User.cfg to point the sim to that location. Best of luck

If I may ask, are you referring to the graphics driver clean install or MSFS its self? Just curious because I was informed to do a “clean install” during every Nvidia driver update. Where it wipes the old and resets the setting in Nvidia control panel (kida annoying to set after every update) but as I understand, its better than the “express” install. 511.79 seemed to have the same results on my rig as well.
Thank you & glad the morale is boosted

My condolences Camer. I have a RTX 3090 Hybrid and I9 10900 as well, so your post caught my eye. I have had constant CTDs since the last update. I’m curious, after your clean install, do you use FSUIPC, the TBM Improvement, and Working Title G3000 add-ons? And one last question, when you did your re-install, did you install to your Windows OS drive or a separate drive? Your answers are going to be my decision as to perform a clean install myself or just wait on the next update.
Whoops. Promise this is my last question. I obviously don’t want to have to add all my community folder add-ons all over again, but because I put MSFS on its own NVME drive separate from Windows OS, I can’t move it. I can rename it, but a clean install of MSFS would wipe that directory out.

Note that the file is not “user.cfg.” It’s Usercfg.opt. That’s not nitpicking; it’s important to enter the name of the file correctly because a user less experienced than you who starts searching for the file after reading your post will not be able to find it using the search term, “user.cfg” Sadly, I speak from experience – wasted a lot of precious time right after the August, 2020, release of the sim.

:pray:t5:! Yes I am using FSUIPC and I have installed the sim to a separate drive as well as kept my Community folder on another drive (I have 4 all ssd and mvne). I don’t fly other than the A3X anymore so unfortunately I can’t help there.
The key when you reinstall is to have Community folder on a separate drive. Edit user.cfg (sorry I was corrected to say that this file name is Usercfg.opt) to point the sim to that folder and you should be good to go.
Happy flying

My condolences…

But that’s a really nice setup you have there. The only thing that remains is to remove the panel in the sim’s cockpit. That way you can have full view of the outside behind your physical panel. And I love that overhead panel too. Looks great.

Well, I’ve tried a clean install and I get hung at one spot with the install freezing. Anyone else have this problem. Oh, and it installs from the store from the XBOX app.

If you are still hung up on that, try removing the LFPG airport folder from the Official One Store file and restart the process.

How do I create a thread. ? Sorry I’m new here

Here is a link explaining about that.

What is your issue?

Got through a clean install with a clean community folder other than what the marketplace put in there, and still CTD’ing. I’m getting close to giving up…until a new official update comes out. This is ridiculous.

So did you get past the point that you showed in the pic above?
