Couple of DX12 tips

Same here. Interesting if you turn on dev mode and check the resource / fps monitor - almost always limited by GPU now and not mainthread. Lots of room to optimize.

2070 Super here, DX12 is a huge improvement for me

Honestly, I am disappointed as well. I knew there wouldn’t be any real performance boost but was not expecting my fps to be locked at 30. I’m going to go back to dx11 until they improve dx12 support

It was stated yesterday to avoid confusion and posted twice on this forum DX12 thread, on Q@A Seb confirmed this version of DX12 on SU7, no change on graphic or either performance benefit, it’s only a test to see if base DX12 will works, after that on later update, graphic enhancement will be available and performance had potential to increase a bit later etc…For now do not expect anything on DX12 only to find bug\issue.

“To try” what exactly? With no visual benefit (DXR, DLSS) and no CPU optimization (still single thread limited) why would one enable it?

From the small sample size in this thread, you seem to be the only lucky one😊

I’m running a 2070 Super as well, and I saw worst performance like the others mention here in this thread.

Seb did say that this is just the first pass, didn’t expect performance boost yet. I think they just want to get it out into the wild so they could see if it was going to cause crash to desktops and things like that. Great idea to make it selectable.

Isn’t Xbox running DX12? Why the big performance hit on PC if it’s the same code?

DX12 is working ok for me so far, no crashes in the last hour.

Only difference I can see is a slight stutter when I pan to the right, but not the left for some reason. Is Ok in DX11.

No performance difference for me I still get my limited 40 fps and with much the same GPU usage in DX 11 or 12.

Can’t see any advantages to having it on at the moment but if it’s helping them find bugs I’ll leave it on to see if I generate any error logs for them.

For those of you experiencing problems with it, have you rebooted the game after changing it to DX12?

I just tried DX12 with a 1080ti i710700k and experienced much more stutter compared to DX11. Theres deffo a lot of room for optimizations and I believe DX12 can be greatly improved/tweaked for more systems in future.

Then don’t enable DX12. No one is forcing you to use it. They have said they’re allowing it to be an option to test results. Try not being so dramatic and just got back to DX11

Yup, I got a lot of stuttering.

I can’t turn on DX12. I followed the rules, applied, backed out, rebooted the Sim, but it still says I’m in DX11. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? And, yes, DX12 is installed on my machine.

Same problem here - the DX12 setting is not saved

Where should it be saved?

Using 2070 super 30 FPS in DX12 44 in DX11 , what i do notice when flying is that the clouds are more beautifull and less grainy so i like that a lot ,

Seeing a lot more low level haze too.

Yeah, this GPU usage is interesting.

i am 3080 with thr last driver. when i switch to dx12,the fps drop to 2-3,that is the nightmare to me. when i bak to dx11. everything so smooth…

There’s definitely something up there…this is my testing on a 3080 Ti over EGLL to compare (lost about 5-10fps compared to DX11 but now GPU limited)

Have you tried resetting your graphics settings, clearing rolling and shader cache? Any mods?

O.K., I figured it out. In my case my usercfg.opt file was set to read only. I unchecked it, applied, and now when I reboot I get DX12.

The toggle for DX12 is in the graphics menu.
