Crash to desktop without error message

2nd successful flight without CTD to the EKCH to EDDM boarding bridge

Since each flight from LFPG to FACT caused me CDT a few minutes after takeoff, I left LFRS always towards FACT.
I thought it got off to a good start, as I didn’t have a crash after a few minutes. BUT after 30 minutes the CTD.

I read that France would cause a lot of CTD.
I also noticed that a flight with the same plane over the Anglettre or France at the same altitude, needs more virtual memory, than a flight over Spain.

After so many weeks of battling with MSFS, wasting countless hours and fighting CTD upon CTD, I bought Cyberpunk (at 1/6th of MSFS’ price) and I find it so odd that I can finally play without crashes, without fearing that an alt-tab to Windows will cause a driver timeout, without having to change page files, CPU affinities, folder ownerships, exe properties or try to run as admin.

Without having to disable overlays or fearing that mild overclocking will crash the game, without having to un/re-install Visual C++ libraries, Windows or the game itself, without stutters, without having to disable basic in-game features (e.g. AI traffic, Azure voice engine) and so on, all of the above done randomly in the vain hope that one of these crazy workarounds might actually do the trick and fix the game (until the next patch where we may start all over again).

I just click Launch and I play, this is what software is supposed to be. No if’s, no but’s, no blaming the end user for the million issues of a game.

ps: last night I had 2 CTDs despite Xbox Game Bar being off, the last crash being minutes beforing the landing phase of a 2+ hour flight. So much time wasted…

And if the solution to all these CTDs was to have the smallest possible PC / Display (Screens / VR) configuration …

GTX 1080 TI + Oculus CV1 = 0 CTD for 1 month
RX 6800 XT + Oculus CV1 = 0 CTD for 1 month
GTX 1080 TI + HP Reberv G2 = 0 CDT
RX 6800 XT + HP Reberv G2 = CDT CDT CDT CDT, and CDT

I still have a GTX 970 and even a GTX 670, maybe if mounted on one of my PCs with an I7 920 from 2008 that I would no longer have a CTD …

Hi there,

I also had CONSTANT Crashes To Desktop and FOUND THE SOLUTION !!!
Look at this https://youtu.be/JunjlKMT3Po

Windows is able to shutdown USB ports and this fellow found a way to stop that.
I also did shut down the USB port of me Reverb G2 and other USB ports used on my PC.

!!! FINALLY NO MORE CTD’s !!!

Greetings Will.

@ SparedComb76789 Thank you already for sharing.
What do you have as a PC configuration?

I had already cleared the box that allows Windows to put USB ports to sleep, but not peripherals.
The keyboard still had the possibility of going to sleep, as well as the HP Reberv G2 (On the other hand, I had already deactivated it during one of my Nth reinstallation of Windows, but the CTDs had continued)
But we will keep hope …

Otherwise, I continue my flights outside France, and for the moment, I have not had a CTD.
I have just completed a 3 hour flight from LIMC to LGDA with the TBM 930 in GPS navigation, to the landing bridge, with engine shutdown.

Second crash of the day. 2.5 hours into Pilot Emillie’s stream, at the last but one airport. :frowning:

But a different error this time, one I don’t think I’ve ever seen before:

I just redid a test from LFPG to I just redid a test from LFPG to FAIT hoping, but without really believing it, that the tip posted by SparedComb76789, could have solved the problem.
This time I took the TBM 930, even though it only has 5 hours of battery life.
As with the A320 and 747 after 5 minutes I got the CTD.

I will try to make a flight, always starting from LFPG, but this time, going north, towards England.

Decided to try NeoFly. 5 minutes after takeoff:

Display driver amdkmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Yay.

Your VCRUNTIME140.dll error may be correctable. The advice given my Asobo is to ensure you only have one version of those libraries installed, the 2015 - 2019 version.

Some users have stated that MSFS ships with this, and I never took the time to look, so I had a quick look, and it does have a single file installed:

vcruntime140_1.dll

image

So the filename is different so it was probably not using the version that comes with the sim. The version you show doesn’t match what is in my install folder either.

Since I ensured I only had a single version of the C++ runtimes installed I have stopped getting those particular errors, and recently started getting the .NET Framework based ones instead. Today my “KERNELBASE.dll” was a brand new one.

In my case I don’t think it’s related to Visual C++ libraries. It happens even with new Windows installations which are clean of those libraries or have a default version or have the newest version (I have tried all three to no avail). Currently I have these:

After all MSFS uses its own libraries I think, I remember it crashing with 1.28 when my installed version was 1.25. Later I updated to the latest version and the CTDs are still there.

It only has that single file as far as I can see. And the version you listed above in the earlier post doesn’t match any of the versions you have there for some reason, nor the version I have installed in my MSFS install folder.

An interesting discussion I found here, where people are discussing the exact same errors: Umstieg Nvidia auf AMD, Fragen... [Archiv] - 3DCenter Forum

Which is translated to English as:

so, the simulator also ran WITHOUT the 2015-2019 runtimes, now something funny:
It just crashed with:
Faulting application name: FlightSimulator.exe, version: 1.14.6.0, time stamp: 0x60420b1c
Faulting module name: VCRUNTIME140.dll, version: 14.28.29913.0, time stamp: 0x6041a7e8
although they are not installed

I really don’t think this has got anything to do with library versions. At best it may be some incompatibility between MSFS and AMD drivers (not Adrenaline, as I’ve tried with drivers only, without installing AMD’s app and the results were the same). But I’ve tried clean installations of all AMD drivers between November and now (around 10 versions in total) and they didn’t help with CTDs.

That faulting module is something loaded in memory at that time, so a file with that version number must be on disk somewhere. I couldn’t see that file name in my install folder anywhere, only the “VCRUNTIM140_1.dll” file.

But I did have the libraries installed elsewhere outside the sim install folder, as expected.

Error Amdkmdap
I solved this error with option 3 with the change in the registry

For my part, I did a flight test going north from LFPG to ESSA with the TBM 930 in GPS navigation.
I did not have a CTD, but after 45 minutes of flight the display froze, even though I could still hear the sound.
Ctrl Alt Delete was inactive. I had to forcibly shut down the PC with the shutdown button.

Error before display freezes

If AMD drivers were involved, I wouldn’t have been able to play 1 month without any CTD with the RX 6800 XT and the Oculus CV1.

I still have the CV1 and the GTX 1080 TI
I tested the GTX 1080 TI with the HP Reberv G2 some time ago, didn’t have a CTD.
I can always bring it up to test the LFPG flight to FACT which still causes a CTD after a few minutes.
So we could know if the problem comes from the area around LFPG, or something else …

Hi everyone, just wanted to say I have not had a CTD since the update in early March. Prior I was getting them almost every flight with AI traffic on. Thanks to the developers for a visually spectacular and very enjoyable game, especially since the CTD issues were resolved (at least for me).

I think this may apply to amdkmdap error, but I’m getting amdkmdag instead. In any case, enabling TdrLevel didn’t help in the past and doesn’t help now, as value 0 causes Windows to freeze indefinitely when MSFS crashes while value 3 (which is suggested by some) simply recovers back to desktop after the CTD. I’ve seen the exact same 0/3 scenario in another forum, so must be something reproducible.

Some more steps I tried was to:

  1. Disable AMD services “AMD Crash Defender Service” and “AMD External Events Utility”
  2. Disable AMD tasks (from Windows Task Scheduler) “startCN” and “startDVR”, which among other things launch radeonsoftware.exe in the background
  3. Rename C:\Program Files\AMD\CNext\CNext\amdow.exe and AMDRSServ.exe to prevent either of them launching, which are also running in the background and are responsible for Adrenalin, desktop overlays etc

Nothing worked. Eventually I rolled back all changes (TdrLevel included) and confirmed they are all as they were supposed to. Now MSFS crashes in the main menu again with vcruntime140! Which means not even the Xbox Game Bar workaround helps now. Removing all AMD Adrenalin software via DDU and just installing the GPU drivers didn’t help.

I think I’ll just drop this, there’s no point anymore. Going back to Cyberpunk and Valheim (which btw work flawlessly compared to Asobo’s abomination).

sorry man, i feel for you but i told you from the beginning !

we’ve been there, we’ve done that and it’s still the game that’s going crazy with its bugs on us.

Ok for amdkmda p and amdkmda g error

I have just finished installing the driver for the GTX 1080 TI, I am going to launch the flight from LFPG, we will see whether it goes to DONE, even if it would be a good thing, if it was at least halfway flight without CTD.
Assuming I don’t have a CTD, what will we do with it …
Who will correct the problem, AMD, HP, Asobo …
