Crashed, restarted by itself and now continually 'checking for updates'

Do you have any add-ons in your Community folder? If yes, please remove and retest before posting.
I had addons in the folder, but have removed them, MSFS now loads. Will try adding the addons back one by one.

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?
Using developer mode, but made no changes

Brief description of the issue:
Computer blue screen crashed and restarted while in the addons folder, now continually ‘checking for updates’. I have since removed all addons, and MSFS opens up, I’ve narrowed it down to the new Lakenheath scenery that I added to the Community folder where all the aircraft are added - perhaps thats the wrong place?

Not yet, hoping for a simple solution.

sounds like somewhat becomes corrupted with your bluescreen…

Possible try the normal windows checks ( sfc / scannow … DISM… etc ).
May be also simple reconnect can help, or reinstalling the xbox app.

Right, I’ve signed out of Xbox, signed in again, no difference.

I’ve run Command prompt in elevated, sfc /scannow and I have also run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

both completed, still no joy.

I can run MSFS with nothing in the Community folder, but if I place any addons in there it gets stuck ‘checking for updates’.

There must be a solution that doesn’t involve downloading 138Gb again.

ah… normaly we check no mod-issues here, but …

You can list which mods you try to put into your community folder. May be there are already some known issues.

PS.: bit strange that a mod can cause such an error-“pattern”

take note to change download back to normal after update .

:beers:

I was trying the RAF Lakenheath Scenery from flightsim.to which has no problems for others according to forum posts elsewhere.

the question might then be:
this is the only mod you tried ? … if you have another mod, try it first. Only in this way we can exclude possible side effects of these mod.

The only other mod I have is a project I was working on, which was not causing this issue previously.

I installed RAF Valley scenery from flightsim.to and MSFS loads up.

I have seen others who have successfully installed RAF Lakenheath scenery, so the issue may not be the scenery.

and can’t following

  • you have no mods installed and MSFS works fine
  • you install only one Mod “RAF Lakenheath” and MSFS works / works not ??
  • you install only your own project and MSFS works / works not ??

The mod which prevent that MSFS will start, have an issue.

I not have these Lakenheath, otherwise I would try it… or do you mean your own project cause the issue ?

I’ve fixed it - the issue was the manifest which in the download has contents, did not have anything inside it after the crash and restart. So if anyone else gets this, check your addons for an empty manifest - if manifest is 0 kb reinstall the addon again.

I think with release 1.8…( what I have in mind ) the mods had a similar issue… There was the manifest format changed. But good to know and … happy flight
