Hi, just upgraded from a 1650S to a 2060 and now I get CTD halfway through initial loading screen, no error message. Never had this problem with the 1650S.
I emptied community folder and disconnected joysticks. Drivers up to date through the Geforce app.
The 2060 runs fine on another game. It’s manufacturer refurbished (Gigabyte). Maybe there’s some background settings I need to reset that weren’t done in refurbishment?
I suggested you click RESET to default settings, optimize usually will look for a profile which might be the problem. Once you’ve rebooted you might need to switch from onboard graphics to PCI-E.
While you are in Bios take a note of it’s version as the new card might need a newer version
After all that I suggest you update all of your mainboard’s drivers, especially chipset and then reinstall the GPU.
You mentioned in generaly works your PC fine with the new card. Only MSFS run into an issue.
A possible error message can you find within the “Windows Event Log”.
Now you have to bring your PC / windows back to a normal running state. In case you changed some settings in BIOS try to revert. As mentioned is “default” often a good choice. Stay away from OC settings…
If you back to a normal running state and other games / app works again without problems, we can start to check whats possible wrong with MSFS. May be it can not handle these hardware change and reset of msfs is necessary, or it might help to only remove some existing config files ( e.g. UserCfg ).
Ok seems I fried the mobo so I’m back with new mobo, cpu & ram. Unfortunately the problem still remains. I put my 1650S back in and no problems. In the process of frying the mobo I also reinstalled windows, the game and drivers.
Also tried running as administrator.
By Windows Event Log do you mean Event Viewer? If so, what do I look out for in there?
And how do I remove the existing config files?
I assumed you deleted the windows shader cache and (re)installed the nvidia driver using the advanced mode to remove the old driver?
These are probably not essential for some games as they rebuild shader cache automatically but MSFS may not know you changed GPU so I would say these are essential. Worth a try.
Also if you ever overclocked the old card, maybe some software might be doing the same to the new?
In case you use Gerforce Experiance, check that you have disabled the Auto-Optimize Feature. The app should determine the GPU ‘switch’, but who knows ( Its allways recommendation to disable it ).
Did you run the reinstall as admin, did it ask you to reboot twice. I did do a manual reinstall a while back as I has some issues also. Also make sure you are not overclocking your memory (GPU and system).
I tried a clean install of the drivers again and used 452.06 instead of the latest. This time I managed to get to main menu and start a flight but as soon as it panned to my aircraft it crashed. Event Viewer said:
Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: FlightSimulator.exe (5192) consumed 18112638976 bytes, MsMpEng.exe (4000) consumed 236449792 bytes, and explorer.exe (5504) consumed 223109120 bytes.
I increased the minimum & maximum page file size and I got similar again:
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
Thanks for the help everyone but I think I’ve run out of patience. Time to return the 2060, put the 1650S back in and hope SU5 brings the boost I need.
Maybe I’ll buy a 3000 series when prices come back to earth and hope that works.
I still think the card isn’t getting enough power … make sure it’s power connections are not daisychained but use totally separate feeds from the PSU or mainboard whichever is applicable.
