That’s been disabled.
OK, try without internet.

Tbh an upgrade to PCIe4 would only be good
Well the fact that I had the same error in the same spot with both old and brand new RAM doesn’t give me much cause to believe it’s a RAM issue. I’ll get memtest now and try it out anyway. I have 2x32GB in there right now. I had 2x8GB in there before. I’ve had this same issue both before and after enabling XMP.
edit: Almost 6 hours of testing in memtest86 and no errors.
Yeah, I really don’t like this motherboard. But if I get a new motherboard then I’ll have to get a new CPU because, I mean, I might as well. But then I have brand new RAM that will probably be slower.
I can’t believe how much money I’ve dropped trying to get a single game to work. This has become sort of a crusade because it just doesn’t make any sense.
Have a look on ebay
I tested the memory in memtest86 for 6 hours and had zero errors.
Ok. Bit of a shot in the dark, but this is one of the posts I mentioned earlier as being referenced in another thread, which discusses some other possible causes of that exception error. Did you buy any chance try any of those steps?
Unfortunately I have done all of those steps. First on my own, and then to humor the Zendesk techs while troubleshooting I did them all again, and some of them numerous other times whenever I changed something. Well all but reverting Windows updates. It’d be completely impossible to go through 4 years of updates to find out which one made the game not work. Or more likely what Asobo did.
I’m guessing most users don’t replace a large percentage of their hardware while troubleshooting. I’m an idiot and shouldn’t have done that. I should have given up on the game and then planned out and built a new computer from scratch, but that system worked just fine for absolutely everything else. Just this one single game is the problem.
As the OP have stated, we have tried to diagnose and troubleshoot this issue on Zendesk and haven’t been able to resolve this issue and we would really like to know what is causing this since it is rare that we are not able to find a solution for this issue.
To help other users assist OP with this issue, below you can find all the things we have tried on Zendesk to try and resolve this issue so you can maybe try and find some new things to try. As the OP stated, it could be that the issue is with the motherboard and/or CPU.
Error code that the sim gives is 0xc0000005.
- We have tried everything listed in the article: How to troubleshoot faulting module ucrtbase.dll and/or exception code 0xc0000005 crashes - Official Microsoft Flight Simulator / Tips & Troubleshooting - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums
- Fresh install of Windows 11 to new SSD
- Updating Samsung Nvme SSD firmware
- Disabling all non-essential background tasks
- Disabling/uninstalling all background applications we could see crashing on the logs
- Deleting Cloud Save
- New Power Supply
- New GPU
- New RAM
- Updating BIOS to the latest version
- Disabling any default overclocks on CPU/GPU
- Undervolting GPU
- Tested with and without memory XMP profile
- Stress testing CPU/GPU/Memory to ensure none of these parts are crashing under full load
- Checking that none of the parts are overheating during full load
- Disconnecting all USB devices to ensure these are not causing the issue
@DeviantCelt: One thing you didn’t confirm on Zendesk was did you try and clean install Windows 10 to see if the issue persists?
I must have missed that last suggestion. No, I didn’t try going back to Windows 10. I’m not sure if I want to do that all over again since I at least have FSX set up pretty nicely as well as DCS World.
I doubt it would work anyway since I was using Windows 10 when the CTD started.
We have seen in the past that some users have been able to resolve the issue by going back to Windows 10 if nothing else has resolved the issue. Also, if you are on the insider program on Windows 11, leave it and go back to the public version.
Now I’m guessing the answer you seek may rest with your bios, although default should always work everywhere there’s a lot of changes been made to Windows integrity since you got that board so assuming it has the neccessary headers maybe a TPM transplant might be worth a try. I’ll just add that your other games may not have as complex security measures as MSFS.
Late to the party here, but could @DeviantCelt clarify what/where this “spot” is exactly?
Is it a spot on a timeline, such as the sim failiing to boot at the same spot, or it is a geographic spot i.e. lat/long where it crashes? I did scan the thread, and didn’t spot this being clarified, if you will excuse the pun.
I just found the post where it happens when pressing Fly, and when zooming in to an airport. Very strange.
I seem to remember a documented bug involving clicking on a plane on the main map, and zooming, and that would cause a crash, but that has been fixed in a subsequent SU I believe. At least I haven’t seen that issue for some time.
Motherboard, and CPU are the remaining unknown factors.
I guess at this point, if biting the bullet to replace the mobo, you may as well plan to upgrade to a modern CPU of the AMD x3d variety. I will say that I started on a similar setup as yours prior to the other replacements without this issue. It was a prebuilt with an i5-8400, 1060 3 GB GPU, and 16 GB RAM. Only my mobo was from AsRock. Your GPU should be ok, but at least aim for a 5800x3d. If you have the budget, the new 7800x3d is the new king, but then you’ll also be having to replace the memory with DDR5.
Unless you can find a used mobo for dirt cheap to at least test with?
As DeviantCelt is no stranger to overclocking a per CCX undervolted (and overclocked) 5800X is almost as good and much cheaper. The higher clockspeed will be even better for some apps and games
Could this be a Windows hosts file issue?
Even with Bing data switched off?
Yes, if the entries are there the sim will CTD.
They should handle that more gracefully too. I can’t think of a single game or sim that I have that crashes based on what is in my hosts file.
