CTD Still Occurring after updates (Very frustrated)

Hello Folks;

So again, after the last update “1.37.19.0” I have been experiencing CTD practically on ever flight since then. I can load the sim and a flight with no issues however, during Taxing, Taking Off and or cruising it just crashes. No stuttering, no freezing no drop in performance just humming along and the app just calmly closes. It started occurring since the last 2 updates.

The last time “update” is just mysteriously want away after MS did a few patches. I opened a ticket with support the last time but unfortunately, they didn’t have any answers other then trying the basic trouble shooting script which don’t work. I am an IT person and know both hardware and software very well so I know what to look for and there is nothing on my end that’s a problem. My settings are very moderate, I get a very smooth 30FPS+ with addon airports and FSLTL traffic but locked at 30. CPU and GPU are 30% - 40% all the time and memory utilization is 25%. Temps are all low.

It seems like I am being kicked off the MS Server. I didn’t have these problems in 2022/2023 after an upgrade; yes there were performance issues then after updates but them were addressable and or had workarounds. But constant CTD is very frustrating.

I haven’t had any new addons the past 8 months since I didn’t want to add any fuel to the fire. All of my addons are the same since early / mid 2023. My PC and apps are solid.

I am so frustrated that I am just about to go back to FSX or P3D since I never had so much problems. At least I got to fly without issues. I have been flying MS Flight SIm since 1982/83 when it first out so I have been around the block a few time in the sim space which also led me into pursuing my PPL.

BTW I tried everything out there including emptying my Community Folder before an update. That really doesn’t work for this type of CTD.

Hear is some information that maybe someone may see something that may trigger some advice. The information seems to be the same information that most if not everyone gets:

9 scroll up > click Remove Files

10 Restart PC.

11 Launch MSFS. Delete and turn off rolling cache.

Also …
Disable all startup programs except for the software managing your AIO liquid cooling system, if you have one. For testing purpose temporarily disable your AV software and uninstall NVIDIA GeForce Experience.

Check the motherboard manufacturer’s website for Intel Management Engine (ME firmware) updates and install latest version if one is available.
Update BIOS to the latest version if one is available. Make sure to set it up correctly after updating.

I’m nowhere near as qualified as you on computers. Just some guy that likes flight simulator and dabbles in computers. There are at least a few thousand of us that play daily without problems, so the problem has to be somewhere in your system or your network. Keep looking. MSFS will find any weak spot in your system. Best wishes. Run every diagnostic you can think of. My last problem was bad ram after four years of use. I hope it works out for you.

Thanks for your response TenPatrol I appreciate it. I don’t have Game Rolling Cache enabled so nothing to delete in game. However, are you suggesting that I delete the entire Sceneryindexes folder. That’s the only Cache I haven’t touched everything else you suggest I have tried including checking my BIOS and it is up to date. I also don’t have Nvidia Experience installed, no added value for me. Try to keep things slim. Please confirm about the Sceneryindexes folder.

Thanks again.

Kindest Regards.

“I’m nowhere near as qualified as you on computers” I wouldn’t go that far…LOL. You can certainly bring other prospectives to the table which is what I am looking for. Yes, thousands of people us it without problems but that doesn’t mean that the product does have bugs and issues. We all use the product in different ways like every other product. I see users have problems all the time in different areas that I have. In terms of the Ram I thought about that and swapped it out and same problem. I will keep looking; I think TenPatrol suggest deleting my sceneryindexes Cache folder will wait for confirmation on that. Thanks again for taking the time to help I really appreciate it.

Cheers.

Thank you for this.

Cheers.

Open SceneryIndexes folder and delete all files.

Ok thanks for the clarification. Will try that when I get home to my PC tomorrow. I am assuming new index files would be created once I launch the app. Will certainly report back on the results.

Thanks again.

So, I did delete the contend in the Sceneryindexes Folder and unfortunately, that didn’t work. I really have to set aside some more time to trouble shoot this. Already spent a lot of time trying the other suggestions when I first got the update.

Again, everything was working (with weeks of flying with no problem prior to the update) the very next day after doing a 3 hour flight, I start the sim got the update and then couldn’t compete a flight since. Something in that update cause my PC to react weird. I will try a few other things and If it still doesn’t work I will than open a ticket to have a technician take a look and provide help.

Thanks again for all of the help and suggestions you all provided, I really appreciate it.

Cheers.

Just to double check - You have tried running the sim without anything in the Community folder?

Hi @UndyingHen25539
One thought: Have a look at the System & Application log entries immediately before the FlightSimulator.exe entry that you provided in your OP. When I had a series of CTDs, the prior entries provided the clue (memory exhaustion due to the way I was using my GPU & onboard graphics chip simultaneously - MSFS crashed because the onboard RAM literally ran out.).

I’m not suggesting that memory exhaustion is the issue on your PC, but that those entries might give a clue as to what might be causing FlightSimulator.exe to crash, causing the entry that you provide.

Hi ogu1271; yes, I did but I may have to go back and redo it in a more controlled manner since I am running out of options. I think I had MSFS live traffic and or weather on at the time so I will have to go back and turn them off to get to “Plain Vanilla” as I can. Didn’t think it mattered at the time. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for you input I appreciate it.

Cheers.

Hi SmotheryVase665;

Yes I actually did that on a few occasions but didn’t see anything unusual that would suggest any memory usage related issues. On one occasion the last entry and or action system wide was 20 min before the crash and the CTD occurred 8 mins after launch. So, nothing unusual prior to CTD. Now, having said that, it doesn’t mean that I may not be having memory problems, I swapped memory but that didn’t help. Could be something in MSFS is hitting a weak spot in my memory.

I also checked my antivirus software for any unusual access errors, I also did a full removal of the app and still the same problem; so I just reinstalled the app to be covered.

I have a few other things to try which I hopefully will get to tomorrow and if those don’t work then I will then determine next steps. Will provide an update once I get the chance to do the additional tests.

Cheers.

I was experiencing the very same.
Format + full reinstall didn’t help.
Lots of various cache this, XMP that, Community folder whatnot never helped either.

Switching back from DX12+HAGS to DX11-noHAGS did, though.

Hi @UndyingHen25539 - I’d not spend too much time looking for issues with your memory at this point. My issue was very specific - you can read about it here if you are interested.

Hi rrikiko; thanks for your response. I always use DX11, noHAGS. I actually tried DX12 and HAGS a while ago to test DLSS 3 since I have got a 4070Ti but didn’t really see a great performance difference since I am using only a 60Hz Monitor. So, I switched back. This is frustrating. I will be away for a few days so that will help clear my mind of this problem and try again when I get back.

Cheers Man.

Thanks SmotheryVase665 no worries. Did some memory tests and monitoring and everything Looks fine.

:+1:

Hi, I have exactly the same problem since the last update. My sim ran almost perfectly before, without any crashes and smoothly at 52 - 57 FPS. The crashes occur irregularly in every phase of a flight, but 80% of the time after landing, before any crash, it was a very stable and smoothy flight. I also tried the solutions you have already described, without success. If you have found a solution, please let me know….I am very frustrated :frowning:

Yes; definitely will do. I am traveling for business but will be back home for the weekend and will continue to troubleshoot. Hopefully I will find the culprit. Yes, it is very frustrating.

Cheers.
