CTD's and Virus Internet Security Apps

This is my second post on CTD’s, and have reported to Zendesk with 2 Win10 Event Viewer screenshots showing the FS2020 CTD. FS2020 since major 40GB update is crashing or freezing most of time when I hit the ‘Fly’ button. I may fly for a few minutes but soon a CTD or Freeze. Community folder IS empty. FS2020 was fine before this update, including VR, with most settings on ultra in full 4K. I reduced all the settings down to high and medium on 2560x1440 res. but the same. One thing to check is your Internet Security on the events list and see if it is causing a problem. My previous AVG Internet Security was causing problems with some apps and causing CTD’s. I now have BitDefender which seems to be OK with my apps, sims and games. Worth checking. I hope the CTD’s can be sorted. If not I may have to forget the PC version, get a XBOX series X console and run FS2020 on that. PC System Intel 11th Gen i9-11900K, 32GB Ram, RTX3090 24GB, Corsair MP600 Pro Gen4 SSD, Fast Fibre Internet, Oculus Quest 2.

Here a user reported similar , but already 12d ago, with these AVG stuff…

( and following )

We allways recommend to add these big game folders to the anti-virus tool exclusion list and let check these folders manually from time to time.

it was me…lol…where can i find these big game folders “names” to put in that exclusion list ? i suppose it prevents the AVG to block these files …correct ? so the game, uopdates, etc.. can run properly ?

Moved from Bugs and issues to General Discussion.

and do u think it would be safe to “disconnect” the AVG while downlaoding future updates ?

paths depends on MS-Store or Steam install ..

In case of Steam (and default install path):
C:\Users\XXUSERNAMEXXX\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator
( and the folder of your steam lib itself where msfs is installed ).

In case of MS-Store:
C:\Users\XXUSERNAMEXXX\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe

But may be.. depend on the Anti-Virus application, it may be sufficent to add “application X” to the list.

exclude only these kind of big games and let check it manually from time to time ( or per timer job ).

I not assume a “virus” in these downloads and I do same for other “monster” apps ( DCS, P3D, etc.. ).

Of course, you not need to do it in case you get no trouble. But in case of trouble, have the anti-vir ( or clean-up tools, etc. ) in mind

many thanks…i m having ms store…so only one file then…

many thanks… i put it in my favourites…it looks a bit “mixed” and many files to exclude comparing to michamma said..only one folder..anyway i will check it later when i get my new internet connection and go and install the sim again…cheers guys for the precious help, and i hope for the best (like ma,ny of us having trouble with this d… sim

hmmm.. not sure about the “gamingservice”. Because I have steam and also no game-pass, I dont have it installed.

PS.: and the trouble in these case makes these best-of anti-virus tools

I think the default Windows Defender is the best, it has no impact on gaming performance and i never had malware or viruses. Installing AVG or McAfee is asking for trouble. Also it’s part of Windows so the chance of it causing issues is small.

You’re welcome.

New gaming services folder path

c:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.GamingServices_2.55.26001.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\

you remember the old issues about it ?..

These tool is definitv not the best, but not as worst as lot of users told. But also for these Windows Defender is the recommendation to add the MSFS folder into the exclusion list ( I haven’t time to search the posts about ).

I remember everyone had AVG, McAfee installed and always having to add things to the exclusion list. And once in a while it found some kind of malware or virus and you had to remove it and files are placed in quarantine etc.

But i never heard anything about viruses or malware for a decade now, it never seems to happen anymore because the security of Windows nowadays is way better than it used to be. My father still uses AVG because he still thinks it’s important.

FS2020 seems to have settled down and the CTD’ s have stopped. Too early days yet, need to do more fly testing. Don’t know why, maybe the last smaller update has fixed the CTD’s.? It seems I may not have to get a XBOX Console and the Sim. That will save me a bit! See how it goes.
