I get crash to desktop almost everytime no matter what I try. No add-ons DX11/12. No exceptions just CTD. If I don’t CTD I get in with half the fps/ultra settings. Exit the sim-reboot, CTD. Relaunch, JFK(Inibuild with Inibuild A310) 5-9 fps. Restart, CTD. Restart get in same airport same airplane FPS 30. Restart CTD. Relaunch get in with same airport/airplane 9 fps. I mean this is just a crap shoot what experience you’re going to get when you launch. No other program does this…none. And I’m running this now with no third party addons. Absolutely no joy at the moment.
Having the sam thing at 8pm est multiple times. Mo ed Commu itty fo,der same thing. Haedset audio and speakers are messed up. O ly speakers for atc ebven though I have it set and rest to my headset. ATC ON ON SPEAKERS AND NO CABIN OR ENGINE ON SPEAKERS OR HEADSET… nothing on heafset. TAxi Nd no change then CTD after 2 minutes. GRRRRR. BEEN ROCK SOLID FOR 12 MONTHS WITH just PMDG, Kphil airport, and thats it.
Sorry for the CAPS. On a tablet and didint want to totally rewite the post.
I can report also a small progression: had 4 CTD’s in row while departing from Vienna, now I lowered the terrain LOD from 180 to 150 → voila. The sim did “let me fly”.
Hi,
Yesterday I had six CTDs in a row, one of them even in Safe Mode. During this time my Rolling Cache was turned off.
I decided to run MSFS with the Rolloing Cache “on” and created a special folder for it and allocated 64 GB space for it. During the subsequent start of the sim, MSFS filled this Rolling Cache immediately with 67.108.864 KB of data.
Had three subsequent flights so far without a CTD.

Hi,
Not so good news. Had three CTDs in a row this evening, of which the last two were in Safe Mode with the default Caravan.
Im currently downloading the SU14 beta as it seems to have fixed the CTD issues for them. I’ll try it and see if it crashes. I have had multiple crashes today with the same error code and one of them was in safe mode. I think this issue has started to get worse for people. I wonder if its an issue on Microsoft’s end when it comes to sending data to peoples machines as in bing imagery and what not.
The beta patch notes do have a line that states: " * Several crashes have been fixed across the title"
Others have said this has been successful. I’ll be curious for your updates after SU14 beta. Good Luck!
I have completed 2 flights since the update and they were both routes I had previously experience crashes on every time I tried to fly them. I was able to make it this time so I think SU14 might be a fix at least for now until something else breaks.
Hi,
Unistalled and completely re-downloaded MSFS today.
At the very first startup I got the following after downloading ca. 130 GB just after clicking “Ready to fly”:
There is this article on the 0xc0000005 crashes:
thanks again for your support, but I think we are a bunch of guys here who already tried these basic steps when it comes to issues with the sim. this is an article from May, there are no updated information or new ingsights here.
if you dig deeper into this (our) issue, you will see that lot of us had this CTD without changing anything in windows or the simulator …
we are also not able to pinpoint the cause because some of us have it on vanilla system, some of us have it while flying with a lots of addons …
(I have some routes I am flying for 6 times in a row with crashes at certain points, other users could not reproduce it … at the 7th time without changing any substantials - it works …)
as long as we are dealing with a very general error message and as long as the game is not reporting the direct trigger (or someone from the developers can not dig into the codes) we are not really getting further with “check your audio drivers”
I believe it is linked with the internet connection / scenery download
so, rolling back the windows updates will not help either …
For sure, I’m just trying to throw some things in here that you may not have seen before, in the hopes there may be something in there.
I had this issue (and it was the only serious issue I’ve had with the sim).
I ended up doing a full Windows reinstall, which did cure the problem.
reinstalling the game is fine for me at anytime, but reinstalling windows is such a pain in your 3 letters, I can not say it enough… i am so jealous of you guys, wiping just your computer like a charm, I have so many things installed it would only take 3 days to make a complete list what to install again …
long story short. it is not proportional, moreover - there is no guarantee it will work afterwards… it is like changing the car when the winter tires are slipping …
Exactly, and it took me more than three days to get things back to “normal”.
Have you filed a Zendesk support request?
Hi,
Just want to share my experience. I have had a looot of CTD’s in my sim. This just became an issue without changing anything.
I’ve had CTD’s mid air, at pushback, on the map view, taxing, on takeoff and on landing. I have never pinpointed what the issue was. I had tried every obvious thing and have tried a lot of workarounds that i found on forums.
The one thing that seemed to kinda fix it was changing my network card speed to 100mbit Full Duplex (Half duplex did not work good with Vatsim)
I bought a new videocard recently (from Nvidia to AMD) and have fully reset my PC to factory settings. Since then I have not have a single crash (knock on wood) in the sim, i am still using the same Addons in the sim and i have the same settings. Everything in Windows is default so I did not change anything there.
I have done about 10/15 flights ranging from 1 hour to 11 hours and did not have issues anymore.
In my case i think it had to be the some application/driver in windows. My PC had a lot or default “bloatware” ASUS stuff and drivers for like everything.
The only big difference i see is that my old card (3060TI) had 8GB VRAM that was almost always full and my new card (RX7800XT) that has 16GB VRAM also uses about 15GB. Maybe the Sim had some issues handing the low amount of VRAM on the old card?
It will definitely not be for everyone but atleast for me the issue was solved after a Windows reset. Maybe if the only thing to try is resetting the PC will help you make this decision.
Hi,
Yesterday I completely reinstalled MSFS and today I reinstalled Windows 11.
No help. Got continously CTDs when launching in Central Europe.
However no crashes when flying in northern Scotland or on any other continent.
BTW this was on a vanilla installation of MSFS. The CTDs occurred also in Safe Mode.
Currently I am in touch with the MSFS help desk and sent them my DxDiag, MSFS status report , user .cfg and MSInfo files for analysis.
Hopefully they will be able to find something useful.
Hello, just a question. Do you have the CTD’s only under DX12 or also under DX11 or both? What are we talking about here? Are most of them under DX12? I mainly only have problems with DX12, immediately CTD when starting, I can’t even get into the menu. Or in this situation I load CTD straight away. Very rarely with DX11. LG Roland
Very well said. I have completed most of these steps and nothing works. Tried the audio recommendation and now I can’t get the audio driver reinstalled. lol. Great!
Hi,
With the help of Zen desk my sim seems to work at least for the moment.
They referred me to this checklist which I followed to the letter.
How to restore the sim to its vanilla state to get back in game – Microsoft Flight Simulator Support
It is a pita to go through all these steps, but for now the CTDs have stopped. We will see for how long…
