Thanks Dean for the clarification about NWS not on F15s. I didn’t realize that.
IRL the steering rate can be increased on the F15 via a button on the back of a stick. From an old 80s F-15A/B/C/D flight manual:
Thanks! Yes, they do have control over NWS, but not to the extent that carrier based fighters do. NWS in MSFS is really there for the FA-18E, but it does seem to interfere with other airplanes if you happen to have a button assigned and hit it by accident. I’ll look at including that in my airplanes so it doesn’t mess with them going forward ( and F-14 will need it anyway ).
I think the normal mode is limited to 30° and as it says it goes up to 45° with the manoeuvring mode engaged. Not really a major difference though so not a big deal but I’m a pedant so couldn’t help myself I didn’t actually know that the paddle made it into a free castoring wheel though. I wonder why McDonald Douglas added that feature in. Seems a bit odd. Maybe for towing purposes?
Yes, towing would make sense for a free castoring wheel I think.
So, whenever I cage the ADI gyro, the SAS seems to cut out and the plane doesn’t hold trim unless I uncage it again. Is this a thing in the real plane?
@DEAN01973 Great update but a few things still bug me about the F15. Are the external fuel tanks meant to disappear when they get down to 2%? And why are the mirrors still set to off by default instead of on? And what’s up with the external camera it’s seems to be set back further than on all other aircraft and zooms in on the centre instead of the cockpit
External tanks should not vanish as they have a 10 gallon unuseable fuel content - upon which the vis condition is based. I haven’t changed this in the update so they should remain where they are. I checked the code and it’s the same as before so not sure why it’s happening.
Mirrors are off by default as that’s what most people wanted. External camera - I’ve tried changing this a thousand times in the .cfg file but nothing ever alters the position. No idea why.
@DashingLeper I’d imagine so, yes, any caged instrument is not reliable for navigation or autopilot / trim. You’re removing the data needed for those functions to work.
Thank you for answering strange that the camera is different. I was flying the F15E last night with wing external fuel tanks both at 100% and noticed they disappeared after flying for a while checked fuel and both at 2%
I hope I’m not coming across negative I really appreciate your hard work and love the update
No not at all, all valid points.
Jack and I have solved the tank issue - The values that worked before have been changed by Asobo and no longer work as viz conditions. Switching to the above tank weight conditions do now work If you’re confident with changing XML, it can be done on each of the F-15’s exterior model XML files:
<Visibility>
<Parameter>
<Code>(A:FUELSYSTEM TANK WEIGHT:8, pounds) 66 > if{ 1 } els{ 0 }</Code>
</Parameter>
</Visibility>
</Component>
<Component ID="F15Tank_Wing_Viz" Node="F15Tank_Wing">
<Visibility>
<Parameter>
<Code>(A:FUELSYSTEM TANK WEIGHT:6, pounds) 66 > (A:FUELSYSTEM TANK WEIGHT:7, pounds) 66 > or if{ 1 } els{ 0 }</Code>
</Parameter>
</Visibility>
</Component>```
I can’t I’m on Xbox
Ah, sorry then, next update will have the tank fix in it as I’ve done it here. Will be sent just after SU10 when we find out what else Asobo have broken this time around.
Mite just have to stick unlimited fuel on in the meantime
@DEAN01973 one more question then I will leave you alone. Why has the updated sounds not been applied to other F15s in multiplayer? They still sound muffled and quiet compared to my own F15 using the showcase camera
Oh they’re supposed to have been! I will ask Sim Acoustics to check on that, sounds are all important!
I noticed this too today in multiplayer.
Many thanks to everyone involved with this update.
Im loving the new systems and the way she now handles , you even got the air bleed “chirping” sound.
Im having a bit of an issue with the HUD tho, it keeps sliding over to the right after a few mins in flight and i have to zoom in to max value to get it re centred then its ok for a couple mins then starts to drift to one side again.
Is there something im missing?
Also i seem to be missing the sonic boom? Any ideas?
Many thanks.
Oh and also Dean just like the sign in the bathroom
I salute you o7
