DC Designs F-15

There’s already a camera mod for it here - https://flightsim.to/file/6618/f-15c-d-e-i-better-cameras

I expect this’ll improve rather nicely over time. At the moment my main annoyance is its extreme fondness for tipping over Reliant Robin style while taxiiing. Hopefully the real thing doesn’t do that.

It seems to be a common thing to see 30-series cards not giving the performance increase over a 20-series (or something older) that one would expect based purely on the specs. It seems they need some driver help, especially as regards to MSFS performance, before they start giving those lucky enough to have even found one the performance that they paid for. Hopefully that will happen before the availability increases to the point that any Joe Blow can get one without even trying.

Right now, if I got an email that EVGA was holding a 3080 card for me if I respond in the next 30 minutes (or however their program works), I might just hesitate knowing that they’re not quite ready for primetime in FS. If it takes them long enough to fix it (and I use the word “fix” intentionally, as that seems like a flat out bug to me), I might be able to scoop up a 3080ti or something else that’s even newer and improveder (sic) by the time the 30-series is ready for prime time.

On the other hand, he who hesitates is lost, and if that email does come, and I don’t jump on it, sure as shootin’ they’ll put out a driver revision within 24 hours lol…

As for the aircraft, first I want to see better user reports than what we’ve seen here so far. Plus, as a realism nut, and with the understanding that weapons are either not allowed in MSFS or at least not enabled, which I can live with perfectly fine, I still would want the plane to be of super-high fidelity, to the point that if you can start and fly the sim one, you could probably do the same to a real one, absent the stick and rudder skills that no sim can provide.

And I need it to work in VR, no way am I going back to flat panel flying unless it’s for very specific reasons, like getting some screenshots I want, or doing some specific tests of some sort.

looks we are getting somewhere… :joy:

Can I ask a dumb question – I only see 2 plane variants… where are the other 2?

Same for me. I’ve asked Just Flight support about it.

F-15I is just another livery

Will the F-15 jet be in the marketplace for purchase, and when.

I am not impressed… it’s not terrible but definitely not a $40 plane just from half of the controls not working/not implemented and some of the textures are not that well done.

The throttles aren’t working well either – using a HOTAS One. Sigh.

Needs still a lot of work, very dissapointed.
Was expecting a Not finished Plane, but for this Price and this Progress, its not worth the price. There are worlds between the MB339 and the F15 , hoping for a lot fixes. There is potential, but the msfs2020 isnt ready yet for such planes. Will wait for fixes and may the plane gets better. My opinion and feeling about and atm far away from marketplace quality lvl.

Can anyone give me some help – on autopilot, I have figured out how to altitude hold as well as turn on the autopilot. But how do I get it to navigate to different waypoints, etc?

Ok, i did a mod

dcdesigns-aircraft-f15_CJ447_1.0.pln (122.1 KB)

The attached file must be renamed from .pln to .rar. There are two versions, one with panels activated and one with panels deactivated, just place one of them into community folder. If you don’t like it just delete it.

Things that have been done:

  • Both the geometry of the plane and the CG as well as its limits have been modified. The location of the wing has been corrected and the areas of the fuselage, elevator, rudder, etc. have been corrected.

  • The location of the fuel tanks as well, as well as their size.

Aerodynamics as well as speed references have been modified to support mach 2.5+

  • The engine has been modified to have a static thrust of 17800lb and 29000 with afterburner.

-Maximum speed for the moment above 2.4+

-The cameras have been retouched, both their position and FOV.

Do not consider this a finished official mod, because it is not, but at least in my humble opinion the improvement is important and I hope you like it.

I appreciate any feedback to continue improving it.

Best wishes and enjoy.

I tried out the folder with enable panels but this is how it looks with flickering.

And how do i activate mach 2.4+ ?

Let me check, probably I did something wrong when packaging the rar. I suggest you to delete the panel.cfg from this one.

The ab full boost engage more or less at 95% throttle. If you go straight as cruise you should reach 2.2+ easily and 2.4+ doing manouvers. But if you believe is not enough tell me and I’ll modify the aircraft even more so that it could take that speed easier.

Take in count weather and fuel quantity may have negative influence when trying to achieve such speed. Also thrust decreases with altitude.

Edit: I have made a new one, now it should be able to reach 2.4+ at 35000ft

Panels also corrected.

Its pretty clear a lot of third party developers, especially aircraft developers, are still on a steep learning curve with the sim to get things working and well optimised. There’s probably a valid argument for developers not charging top dollar for things that are still a bit of a work in progress and not yet fully optimised I would say.

It’s going to be available on the marketplace in the coming weeks, you can purchase it now from just flight website though.

40 US dollars for one plane seems a bit steep for a Beta software plane. The entire MSFS 2020 program is a bit more, think of all the planes you get for the price.

I think people are bummed because the F18 that FSX came with was not in the game, and people are wanting fighter jets, but to get this F15 with all the issues being reported and FPS issues? I will just skip it and keep flying MB339 which is really good overall, and does not have issues in VR.

I guess I will get my F18 and F15 fix in Aerofly 2, plus fly the helicopters, which the total price of the game is just a bit more than the F15 DC is selling.

The VR is fantastic in Aerofly 2 as well, super smooth, but not the same as MSFS in ground details, but building details in LA for helicopters is pretty outstanding landing on their helipads,

DC Designs have just posted this message on their Facebook page.

FRIDAY UPDATE:

So, this week has been a bit “manic” to say the least. The feedback from the launch of the F-15 Eagles package has been overwhelmingly positive and equally vast, literally hundreds of messages both here and to Just Flight. There have been a few bugs of course but they’re being ironed out, and a lot of uses had their simulators on “Legacy” flight model mode, hence the control difficulties. Thanks to all who have purchased the Eagles so far, and I hope that you’re enjoying them!

I have a bug list of fixes for an update next week, but first I want to share a huge piece of news with everyone: I have worked out how to reach Mach 2 in MSFS using the Modern flight model. I’m not actually the first to figure this out, but I now know how it’s done so the Eagles will be Mach 2 capable ( at altitude ) by next week! This also paves the way, of course, for Concorde 😊

I am also working hard on upgrading the cockpit textures. This was stated as the one thing most folks wanted to see improved, so it’s underway. Resolution is being increased, lots of detail added, and this work will continue steadily until the Eagle cockpits are fully up to MSFS standard.

For those suffering from sudden loss of FPS in the cockpit, this has been traced to the HUD – not all suffer it, and it doesn’t appear to have any “pattern” to it that I can see, so I’m working on that right now. There is something unique about the HUD which, given how the sim wasn’t supposed to be able to support third-party HUDs, is probably understandable. I’m hoping to fix this soon! I will also optimise the LOD models for multiplayer and AI a bit, and see what’s wrong with the AI sound – the files are there, but folks say they’re not hearing them so will figure that out too,

There’s a huge amount of work for me to do, so it’s a short update this week – hope that you all continue to enjoy the Eagles and I’ll be back here with another update next week as always. Happy Friday! 😊

You are the best. Thanks CodenameJack447!

So… we have passed from “supersonic speeds not supported” to… " I have worked out how to reach Mach 2 in MSFS using the Modern flight model. I’m not actually the first to figure this out, but I now know how it’s done so the Eagles will be Mach 2 capable"…

I’m glad to see that they reacted so quickly and are going to get to work on fixes.
