Developer stream Dec 4. What do you want to know from the devs? (unofficial)

MSFS 2024 Standard Edition

Oh, I’d love to pick the devs’ brains about so many things, but I’m not that naive - I know that for most of the stream, Jorg will probably just rave about how this is the most complex and best flight sim to ever hit the market.
I’d really like to believe that, but the more I dig into this new sim, the more I think that, unfortunately, us old-school, hardcore simmers have been left in the dust. The state the sim was released in is quite troubling, and I ain’t even mentioning the launch day woes at all.
What about small, quality-of-life features that could have been included in the career mode? For instance, Microsoft owns Copilot, so why not use its API to generate AI banter and conversations instead of using the same annoying, childish lines most characters repeat over and over? Yeah, I get it, each LLM API call isn’t cheap, but come on, this is their flagship product! Why not take full advantage of its capabilities?
Why do so many aircraft have rudimentary bugs? How can the DA62’s engines keep running when I cut off the fuel flow? Why doesn’t the 172’s fuel pump increase fuel flow when I set the mixture to full rich and crank the throttle during priming?
Why do I have to copy an entire control profile just to change a single key binding? Why do most aircraft have to restream the cockpit textures when they’ve already been loaded once during the flight initialization?
I could go on and on with this list.
I really hope the devs will try to squash as many bugs as they can and polish this product. It deserves better, and we as a community deserve better too.

You can’t get in yet?
Have you submitted a ticket and gotten a response from Microsoft’s helpdesk?

From what I’ve read from people, it does seem like the helpdesk is hit or miss on reaching a person who knows how to help.

Given he’s said 99.999% of people can now stream it, what else can Jorg say? Are you expecting a personal response from him? (serious question, what’s your expectation of an answer?)

These nebulous comments people keep making, what kind of answer to such a comment can anyone expect to give? I recognize people are really frustrated, but it’s like reporting a bug as “I started FS and it crashed. Make it stop” Saying that to Jorg, what’s he supposed to say?

Actually I can play flawlessly. I’ve never had any major issues yet (except for the launch day as anyone else).

oh…! I’ve been playing for a week now. And I can tell you about a huge number of very stupid bugs.

I mean, instead of a high-quality game, I got an unfinished alpha version.

That’s not what you said. If you’re not happy, you had the choice to return it. You chose to let them keep your money. From their point of view, you’re happy and feel like you got what you paid for. You’re not going to hear anything else from them, and they don’t know anything else.

If Seriously, many people couldn’t get the game back after 2 hours because the game was loading slowly.

Are there any future plans to introduce any monthly subscription system like Nvidia Geforce NOW to fight bandwidth expenses? Or they plan to do this with throttling users? Or heavy downgrades? Monthly usage limits? Or they will hope community spend so much money on marketplace?

when will blurry textures be fixed?

when will the xbox 500mb additional ram come?

are there new aerials, because I and others have mixed results of seeing very old satellite images?

when will marketplace open, as well as when will we get all our stuff back?

please fix pearl harbor water to not be an orthoohoto mask?

Why are some STILL unable to access career mode? Such as receiving “career inaccessible” server problem error or the lock icon over career mode?

Are the devs aware that Microsoft support is now closing support tickets for issues and labeling them as solved when there is not a solution. They are simply replying that they have “logged a lot of issues.. . “ How can we trust that fixes are coming soon?

I think within a couple of mins we will be able to tell everything from the tone of the dialogue. I’m interested in the tone and whether they’ve asked the PR people to step out of the room.

If there’s honesty and respect in the presentation then it will perhaps show they are hearing and there is the basis for a collective way of sorting out the various issues identified.

If not then I believe they need to offer all pre-orders an ‘off ramp’ at no cost to the buyers.

I hope it’s the former option rather than the latter :grimacing:

And I thought I had a problem with the graphics card… + another problem

Pretty much what I would expect too - a lot of talk carefully written by the marketing, some data to justify and explain the launch issues (which we already know why it happened), a selection of bugs ready to be fixed so there is a positive timeline to present for the next few months, maybe addressing some complaints that weren’t necessarily the dev team’s fault (like the shipment issues)

And a very proactive chat moderation

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but, in regard to the “solved” response, it’s really important to understand how Zendesk works. “Solved” just means a person acted upon the ticket. If an issue is a duplicate of another issue, it’ll get merged into that problem, and marked as “solved”, or, if the reviewer is particularly lazy or harried, they’ll just mark it “solved” and delete it. IOW, when a ticket has been acted upon, Zendesk marks it as “solved” and you may or may not get any response as to what was actually done with the ticket.

There are many actions they might have made, it might have been marked as “duplicate”, they could merge it into another ticket that they feel like is a duplicate issue (even if you don’t think it is and it’s not really a duplicate issue. It’s very subjective), it might have been unreproducible by the reviewer, and marked as “solved”. It might not have enough information for the reviewer to figure out was said, and marked as “solved”, and on and so on. If the reviewer is able to reproduce the problem and moves it up the chain for review to decide if they’re going to fix the problem, it’ll get marked as “solved” (the problem being that even if they know it’s a problem, they may choose not to fix it, and they’ll therefore mark it as “solved”, too). Not all reviewers respond back to the submitter with what decision they made and why.

The moral of the story is, a Zendesk ticket marked as “solved” only means the reviewer did something with it.

For me personally there are 2 questions.

Why is the fps so low and how will perfomance increase if the sim is getting more updated. In MFSF2020 after i thought simupdate 5 there was a large hit for the FPS, how will lower spec keep playable in the future.
And in this, for me on my gaming laptop the msfs2020 graphics are more likable then the 2024 version. I know getting relative the same out of a streaming version then a fully downloadable version is pretty wild, but i miss the real experience in 2024 atm.

Question 2, why change all the settings. Graphics wise, control wise, all thoughout the sim, without mentioning this before getting the sim out. Like the ‘b’ button, but it is so difficult because there are even more settings to bind. Why not getting presets for (example) the 10 most used controllers etc.

I believe I’ve accused them of being bug collectors, rather than bug exterminators.

Like I said elsewhere, “…bunch of entomologists.”

EDIT:

Case in point:

Why is this 2020 bug — introduced in an SU — in 2024?

Issue with the atc menu - scrolls to top

Ooooh be carefull buddy, ive had profile sanctions for less

Over the years I talked to many AAA games developers. A few told me they never play their own very successful and well reviewed games. Not even once do they launch them.

I wonder if they read forums
