Discussion: Patch Version 1.14.6.0

You don’t have to “report it here”, or worry about being attacked. Simply put in a ticket with the zen desk, there’s no need to publicize it, unless you think someone might be able to help you before they can. I had an issue with KTLH not having working taxi lights at night (turns out it’s not that they don’t work, it’s that they don’t even exist), but you won’t find a thread here from me whining about it. I put in a ticket with the Zen desk people, and I can only hope it’s somewhere on their probably rather long to-do list. I’m actually thinking about buying MSFScenerybuilder’s version of KTLH just to get the lights working, but they did such a pi$$ poor job on KPIE, I’m hesitant to buy something else from them. And on top of that, I can’t even find a website or any other contact info to register my displeasure with the bad job they did on the airport that I learned to fly at in the first place!

But back to my point, just put in a ticket. There is no reason whatsoever to make that known to the general public.

Just a quick thought -
I read someplace in possibly a different thread that MSFS does NOT like over-clocking of either the CPU or GPU. Supposedly it leads to CTDs.
Just something to consider, if it applies…

I also had a CTD yesterday when flying the C172 over the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain.

Event Log indicated the issue was with the MSFS exe file. I would suggest taking a leaf out of X-plane’s development and write issues to a log file that could be reviewed and sent to troubleshooters to clarify what actually caused the CTD.

Note, I reflew the route in the Baron and there was no CTD.

The CTD occurred about a quarter of the way into the route, which lasted for about two and a half hours.

I forgot to clear my cache prior to using the sim after the installation of the patch but I haven’t flown in that location before anyway, so I don’t think that applies.

honestly i thought it was the case also, i activated my stock profile and the same thing happened unfortunately.
Thanks for the suggestion tho appreciate it nontheless

Crash to desktop without error message - Bugs & Issues / Performance, Graphics & CTDs - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

Hello guys.

I end up reading the reports more than actually participating in the forum. I have about 25 years of simulation underneath I have flown a lot in this life (virtually)
My sincere opinion is that the SIM has been degraded at each WU (1, 2 and 3) so that cities and places can be rendered satisfactorily at the expense of performance.
The WU are very cool visually, they are magnificent, but in order for them to compose the scenario I have to believe that they (Asobo and MS) must suffer a lot to make the experience as real as possible.
What cannot happen at any time is to change “the whole” base of the simulator due to a WORLD UPDATE (WU).
For me it became evident after the WU3, the textures were mostly granular and the LOD of scenarios and objects (including airplanes) was very poor. I believe they did this to maintain the performance.
What I would ask is to keep the MS BASE since launch if possible and stop creating perfumes for the scenarios since what everyone here wants in their real needs is to fly with perfomance, logically delivering the graphic quality that MS is able to deliver. Time passes and it seems to me that the attitude of the developers is only to cover the SOL with a sieve, that is, they give a treat with their hands and take out another one with their feet … lol.
We need to fly inside the SIM (MSFS) that was sold to us in the pre-sale and every day, weeks and months has been a laboratory for developers. Simmers are not used to it.
Sorry for the outburst, but I read the vast majority of the posts, of the most varied subjects and what I see is about 10% with great performing, some 20% that leaves things as they are and don’t care and the vast majority 60% suffers a lot with the variants of these updates.

My specification:

Ryzen 5 3600X in stockmode 3.6
RX 5700 XT Nitro +
16G 3000MHZ
3840x2160 Downscalling 80%
On average 40FPS everywhere (before it was more fluid) and I am seeing that soon I will not be able to maintain this same average anymore.

Come on Asobo and MS, show us! The service is arduous, but we believe in you! Do the basics and everything will be fine!

Update2: New finding: The issue depends on Hyperthreading (100% reproducible at me):
At LYTV 32, clear sky, 12 UTC:
Hyperthreading=Enabled → MainThread=42ms(A32NX),=32ms(DV20)
Hyperthreading=Disabled → MainThread=29ms(A32NX),=22ms(DV20)
Hopefully this is just a bug that can/will be fixed. I want to keep Hyperthreading usually enabled.

If I had actually paid attention to the “I’m not having any issues, so your X is broken and needs to be replaced” folk, I would have a new CPU, GPU and new RAM and still been in the same situation. lol

Now, I did reinstall Windows last weekend. It was definitely needed, regardless of the state of MSFS. I did regain a couple of fps from that, but it definitely wasn’t the reason for the issue I was having.

EDIT:
And on a side note, my 17 Mbit limit on downloading MSFS in sim is also fixed now by fixing their servers. Again, had I listened to the same crowd, I would have a new router and / or new NIC in my system now.

I suspect the live weather only on first flight bug is also related to Asobo’s servers.

The worst part of it, I started to get the odd CTD with WU3. I was nailed heavily by the SU3 bug. I started to doubt myself. Should I go tinker with my OCs? But, i’d keep remembering… if unsure, Let Aida64 run around 12 hours or so. And also remember, it only happens with MSFS. I had the same OC going into Cyberpunk initial release. Running that was a stress test in itself

EDIT: Yeah my weather miraculously was fixed with the patch as was my live traffic. All of a sudden there were all these green dots on my world map i hadn’t seen in some time

WU3 came with a lot of CTDs in the first couple of days, then they seemed to stop. But I lost 15 fps with that one. SU3 dropped me into single digits and made it unplayable.

When it comes to overclocks though - MSFS is definitely more sensitive to it than other games - likely because it uses more cores than any other game. I have one of the “golden” Ryzen 2700X that I can OC locked to 4.2 GHz on all cores and it’s rock solid for everything.

Except MSFS. That’s just a crash-fest if I do that. 4.1 GHz is more reliable, but can still crash unexpectedly. However, I can maintain 4.0 on all cores without issue. It’s just way more demanding than other games and can’t handle that extra clocking. It doesn’t mean you can’t. It just means to have to readjust your expectations with it. Just because you CAN OC to a certain speed with other games doesn’t mean it will work with MSFS. But it also doesn’t mean you can’t overclock with it.

I choose not to, but that’s just me. Everyone has to find what works with their own system.

My live weather works more often now. It seems to be random from session to session. One session, it works flight after flight. The next, I have to restart after first. I think they still have server issues to iron out, but this is better.

Also seeing more live traffic than previously. I never had an issue of seeing none, but some areas were quite sparse compared to what should be there. Outside of the regained performance from the patch, traffic was the first thing I noticed had improved.

I never completely lost live traffic myself, but it was super sparse. First load after the patch blew me away how much of it there was. I can testify to that with my vidcard clocks. That I now leave stock as MSFS was for sure not liking that clocked up too much. That for sure I can OC and get a ctd with settings that are reliable for anything else. So I gave up on that one. Once the stability is there with the Sim, i’d be happy to give it another go though.
EDIT: I only have my 9900k OC’d and its rock solid. My memory is also running stock for the time being

I fly the Naples (KAPF) to Miami (KOPF) route pretty regularly. I’ll typically see a couple of planes around Naples, and then it gets somewhat busy over Miami. Over the Everglades though, I may see 1 or 2 other planes at most at any given time.

This was what the Everglades looked like on my first flight after the patch.

Now there’s some traffic!!! The touchscreen looks awesome btw.

I actually had 3 go-arounds at KOPF due to excessive traffic. Never been so happy to have to go around before! lol

And those screens are awesome. 2 15" touch screens + iPad used as a 3rd, Air Manager + Knobster. It’s like the most versatile cockpit you could ever have.

Man I hate to be negative but my fps is 10-20 now after this patch. Have flown in many different areas, using many different planes today and all consistently stuck at 10-20 fps. Not using community mods or any other stuff. An absolute nightmare.

Using a Ryzen 7 3800XT + RTX 2070 S + 64GBs ram on a 4k monitor. V-Sync disabled, all setting only on High.

I’ve tried everything.. so frustrating.

@UltraRR3660, actually the “vast majority” are sitting at home, quietly enjoying their sim and not spending time here. #justsayin

@Crunchmeister71, you’re running all of that off a laptop??? That’s pretty ■■■■ impressive!

I’m not running a laptop. I’m using a desktop.

Oh. Well, nevermind then lol… For some reason I thought you used a laptop.
