SU10 OK, no CTDs, 10 fps more with DX12 and
Fenix A320, RTX3070, Studio Driver 517.40, Intel 9700k,
(cruising altitude 40-45 fps, approch near EDDF 30,
taxii EDDF 20-25) no image interference,
Asobo very good work!!
NAVIGATIONAL ISSUES on any FIRST FLIGHT of the DAY
-
First of all, I would like to say THANK YOU Microsoft for releasing a Sim Update that I have experienced to be the most stable and reliable so far.
-
The loading time of the Sim after clicking the Play button on Steam takes an exact two minutes and twenty seconds to load, as opposed to seven to ten minutes in the previous build, and well over 10 minutes last year (with the same settings on the same computer).
-
In one year, it was the first time that I was able to make a flight for over an hour (one hour and thirty-six minutes to be exact) without CTD. The CTD-phobia made me make flight plans of around 40-45 minutes.
-
It is more enjoyable than ever to fly now in the Sim. Since Sim Update 10, I have flown the most on any given day, every day.

THE NAVIGATIONAL ISSUE
There is, however, one thing that I cannot seem to deduce the reason for: any first flight gets the navigation go haywire!
Let me explain⦠The Sim is launched, a flight plan is made on the World Map, and the mission is launched. The ALT is set, VS is set, NAV is engaged but the moment you take off and engage AP, the VS goes in effect but the airplane proceeds in a straight line. So the flight is aborted by landing back. Then a Restart of the same mission, same pre-flight (ALT is set, VS is set, NAV is engaged) and this time when AP is engaged, everything works fine. With that particular aircraft, it doesnāt happen again no matter how many missions are launched. But if the aircraft is switched, the first flight with the next aircraft makes the same navigational issue spring up.
And this is not just the G1000 NXi issue. Itās in G3X as well. I have flown the following aircraft and experienced it in every single one of them:
- Cessna 208B Grand Caravan
- Daher TBM 930
- Beechcraft King Air 350i
- Beechcraft Bonanza G36 (the worst experience yet)
- JMB VL-3
- Cub Crafters NX Cub
Has anyone else experienced it as well? If yes, please share your experience or advice.
Thank you.
This topic may be useful:
For me the difference with the studio driver is neglectable with DX12. Switching from TAA to DLSS might improve the GPU timing by a fraction of a millisecond. I hoped for the same improvement I see using DLSS with DX11 which almost cuts my GPU timing in half therefore doubling my FPS in theory.
Yet with DX11 the CPU bottleneck kicks in and the improvement from the GPU is only of scientific interest showing me a nice green GPU below a dark red CPUā¦
So I am still waiting for the CPU performance from DX12 but with the capability of DLSS as delivered only when using DX11. Deciding between DX11 and DX12 is like having to decide beween plague or choleraā¦
I consider 20 to 25 FPS while taxiing horrible and immersion breaking. Any look out of the window is accompanied by heavy stutters. The problem is that even with only one good scenery installed (either Asobo like EDDF or for example KLAX from feelthere) the whole immersion breaks into pieces. While there are great FPS flying high or flying in rural areas with small addon airports the bigger aerodromes do not convince me.
Because of DX11“s massive CPU bottleneck we have to wait for proper DLSS implementation into DX12 which the studio driver did not deliver (compared to the massive improvement seen in DX11).
The DX12 implementation along with DLSS works for me and for many others with 24 gigs of VRAM.
In my 3090 the VRAM usage is 21 gigs, that is almost double of what it used to be with DX11!
In 2 D my flights at low level with many settings in ultra are super smooth. Heavy airports used to be, like you said 25 FPS sometimes even less, but now I am at 32-38, depending on so many factors, like weather, type of aircraft, etc. Switching to DX12 was a blessing in my system. I do not use DLSS in 2D, just TAA. In VR, however, I am doing a lot better with DLSS - Quality turned on. Yes, the glass cockpit gets a little blurry, but all I do is lean over a little and it is fine. Scenery is beautiful. I just finished a test flight over Melbourne, the paid version from ORBX. I was flying just barely above the buildings and my FPS were above 30+ in both 2D and VR.
Note: using Studio Drivers
That could be the facts indeed.
IT is a bit strange that the Studio Driver is then ahead of the Game Ready one in this instance if it is only about quality. Youād expect the Game Ready being there first then.
Non-the-less. What you say about the bloat that comes along with the drivers these days is sickening as well. Personally I use nvCleanInstall to build me a package with only those components from the driver package that is required to do itās job on my PC, nothing else. When a new version comes, I build a package, boot in safe mode and pull the network cord. Use DDU to clean out the previous version. Boot again, install the builder package, boot again and goooooo
It works a charm to be honest. A little hassle but very good doable.
Go to Assistance Options, Piloting, Navigation and set it to Medium or Hard.
I stand corrected. I didnāt know that flying VFR is common and legal at night. Thanks everyone.
I am not sure about all but the screens on those I have used certainly are.
I donāt know if itās just because I finished listening to Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton thatās put me in a good mood this morning, but, credit to where credit is due, flying MSFS2020 this morning watching the sunrise in Bermuda, the sim is incredible⦠perhaps I should switch tunes to MC Hammerās āCanāt touch thisā¦ā
All the screens (cokpits) are darkā¦
Lower your Depth of Field or set it off.
It give you more fps on the ground.
The bright glitter effect caused by the sun reflecting on the ocean surface is gone.
i7-9700
Geforce 3060ti, Screen 2650x1080, 60Hz, HDR
517.40 Studio
32GB RAM
Win11pro, 21H2
DX12, DLSS, Ultra/High, limited 30 fps
Smooth flow, the game has never been better.
But HDR10 must remain deactivated in Windows and FlightSim, otherwise the screen will flicker. I hope HRD comes back with GRD. Instrument screen still blurry.
As I wrote, all of them are set to āoffā = those categories are at āhardā. Thanks.
I have experienced similar results, although not as thoroughly tested as yours.
I am such an NXi clutz that I am very inclined to just write it off to āoperator head-spaceā, though!
Example: Iāve found that if I set up an ILS approach procedure and accidentally activate it before take-off , my bird goes into a death-spiral as soon as I activate the auto-pilot. Quite scary! Learned the hard way that you must only āloadā the approach procedure - donāt āactivateā it.
What Iāve really concluded is that I need to find the NXi operatorās manual to patiently read and learn about this complex system!!
Short of just more reckless trial and error, can anyone recommend an easier way?
Meanwhile, I will test your issue on one of my as yet unflown aircraft to see if I get the same resultā¦
I still have the issue that when opening an additional Programm (Browser, etc) during MSFS running in full screen mode, MSFS can in 5 out of 10 times not longer be used because mouse and keyboard inputs are not recognized. Pressing the Left mouse button or any other keyboard input and shortcut does not help.
Taking a look into the task manager MSFS task shows up ākeine Rückmeldungā (no connection). I have to quit by closing the task in the task manager.
I have a two monitor setup (MSFS just full screen on one monitor) with a RTX 3060Ti card running (516.94 driver) on win 11 (not on 2202).
Any hints or comments would be helpful.
Update:
Was going to test in the VL3 but couldnāt see where it has AP. Perhaps a dedicated mapped key or controller button?
So I selected the King Air, which I have flown perhaps 3 times since MSFS first came out.
After acquainting myself with the different GPS and AP layout, I plugged in your parameters, pre-setting course, ALT, and VS.(frankly I prefer using FLC mode).
Anyway, after take-off and establishing positive climb, etc. I activated the AP.
Worked perfectly - settled into the programmed VS, banked into the GPS course, leveled off at selected ALT and took me directly to my destination.
Like I implied, this is actually my first flight in the King Air in many months. Frankly, I really kind of like it, now. Not sure why I stayed away for so long - perhaps the unusual controls layout.
Bottom-line: Sorry. Could not duplicate your issue.
Asobo/MS:
I completed the poll and after considerably more flight time, I just wanted to add these comments.
Very impressive! 5 out of 5 stars, IMHO.
No stutters, CTDās, or other untoward issues as far as I am concerned.
Certainly there remain bugs/glitches that are well documented, and known already,
but this is a seriously great update and one that makes flying in MSFS truly enjoyable.
Thank you!!
