Discussion + Poll: Sim Update 9 (1.25.7.0)

Black screens and CTD again on the way to Seattle…I did not pay for this.

I have had this as well. For me at least it seemed to have to do with the ground aircraft, the higher the slider, the worse are the stutters. Yesterday I flew with the setting 20% just to test it (I have always kept it 50%-100%) and experienced no stutters at all when landing.

Is this Xbox related? On PC at least on my system the menu is not broken, getting 120fps (which is my monitor’s refresh rate)

The clouds have been a point of contest and complaints ever since SU5. I am not quite sure how this small improvement in their fidelity would affect the menu at all?

When choosing a female fighter pilot as the main driver and co pilot, the ATC dialogue is a male voice. Please solve this problem. Since then, I have also tried to use female civil aviation pilots as the main driver and co pilot, and the ATC dialogue will still be a male voice.

Yeah it’s Xbox related. I used the clouds issue as an obviously ridiculous scapegoat for poor menu performance reasoning.

Trust me, you should feel blessed having a world map not threaten your hardwares existence

Is there a transcript of the Dev Q&A somewhere?

Gamers Nexus discovered something interesting during a teardown of an Xbox devkit.

There are hardware differences.

The devkit is equipped with 40Gb GDDR6, this makes sense if you are also loading devtools simultaneously or working with poorly optimised code during development…but I wonder what impact that extra memory would have on stability if they use devkit hardware for testing too…will end users with only 16Gb see issues which they would never see in testing?

Havent had any ctds yet, but I have to say. This was a bad bad simupdate. Strange and annoying things happening everywhere. In need of some serious hotfixing.

Trying to get a successful flight and some enjoyment I decided to do a short scenic flight in Iceland. I’ve no assets there, no world update, no photogrammetry, small towns and just scenery. Default XCub. Should be about as easy as possible right? All was great for 10mins and then I was back at the dashboard.

It’s not unusable but it’s not far off when this keeps happening.

Custom call sign and flight number no longer work. At present, ATC calls are based on aircraft model instead of calling custom call sign + flight number combination

Could you please what you’re calling modes. I am on Xbox and i do not know what it deals with

Thank you

Female pilot voice is working for me. Sounds so much better than SU8, at least something is better!

lol, like the first time they cut the graphics with SU5? Big backlash there too. It’s not inconceivable.

Then you must use a multi person plane, but a single person plane will become a man. If your main driver and co pilot are men, the voice of ATC will become a woman. It seems that they have reversed their gender

Besides, is your call sign working properly? The custom call number is invalid now

True, but the biggest issue besides the visual downgrades was the introduction of hardcore shimmering/aliasing (whatever it is technically, it’s pixels looking like they are jiggling and jumping around) for many, on autogen buildings and trees at mid to far distance.

I’m really starting to think that much of the problem is due to the oft-forgotten fact that FS 2020 is really still running internally on the old, incredibly inefficient FSX code. The developers have mentioned this before, and said that they were limited in what they could do because of this reliance upon FSX.

Those of us who used FSX believed for years that it was just ahead of its time, designed for hardware that didn’t exist yet, but that one day the hardware would finally come along to run it with all sliders maxed at ridiculous frame rates and no stutters. I think we’re still waiting for that mythical magic hardware because the problem wasn’t the availability of suitable hardware, as it turns out, it was the very poor job the FSX developers did in writing the code. Asobo has mentioned this and the limitations it still places on FS 2020.

FS 2020 has a very pretty veneer over the top of it, but underneath it’s just a tweaked version of FSX, and that code has always been cursed. This sim should have been rewritten from the ground up. Although most users, especially on PC, seem to be running it pretty well, I’ve also seen a ton of users who have thrown the latest CPUs, gobs of RAM, and uber GPUs like the RTX 3090 at it and then wondered why they only saw marginal performance gains, or noticed that the sim was only really utilizing one core of their zillion-core CPU.

It sounds just like FSX, which it essentially is. The multi-core thing really gets me, because we waited in vain throughout the entire lifespan of FSX for the promised version that would properly utilize all CPU cores, yet it never happened. And in 2022, with our “brand new” “modern” sim, we’re still stuck waiting for exactly the same thing.

FSX is like a zombie that never dies.

It was working fine for me for these first 24 hours but now I can’t even select an airport on the world map. Each time I do I get a CTD! I hope Asobo/Microsoft are going to fix this very soon. It’s unplayable on Xbox.

After extensive testing these are the issues, I have since SU 9.
Note: PC, not Xbox

-Flickering reflections in the cockpit
-Severe frame loss and stuttering when panning camera from 45FPS down to 4
-Overall sluggish performance and frame loss upon landing/taxiing.
-Frame loss on longer flights. (3 hours and over)

I had no issues whatsoever prior to SU9.

Please release a Hotfix ASAP

“many different configurations” is a bit of a lazy excuse anyway.
