Discussion + Poll: Sim Update 9 (1.25.7.0)

No issues with CRJ flight on PC ( except the outrageous bugs Aerosoft is not fixing for more then 1 year ).

Also Using rex season / navigraph / pushback toolbar / real weather / addon airports ( ESMS / and Asobo EHAM ) / real weather / / AIG traffic.

Stable and acceptable performance on my game laptop.

The bad sofar ATC IS STILL SPELLING WORDS … i mean come on … after all this time !!!??!!!

Yeah you are correct actually, it turns out that is just the standard dev kit specs, though yeah when you hear reports that people with 3090ti’s are getting as low as 10fps with their mighty 36 odd Tflops, then you know something is definitely very wrong here!

A quantim Pc might not even save things here currently :grimacing:

Taking a step back in time, I’d like to know if it’s possible to somehow go back to an expansion pack? Could the external drive port or even the usb somehow be utilized for a dongle-like device which has at least another stick of RAM.

They’ve gotta come up with something. It was a nightmare to get these consoles to begin with and to think about going through it again so soon, not very palatable.

A little personal story: The last couple of months were rough to me, had some serieus menthal health issues resulting in a burn-out. Things are going better and better as time progress. One aspect of that “recovery” was to completely clear my head for a couple of hours playing MSFS on Xbox. I got my own “Zen” moment when i was up in the sky, all by myself, enjoying the beautiful vista’s the game produced on my tv screen. And in the meantime trying to fly the plane as close to realism as can be. Learing every day.

In short: one must not underestimate what impact it can have on a person when suddenly this is gone. I can’t enjoy the sim at this moment because of what SU9 did to the game. So i have to find other ways now to continue my recovery. And i will, no doubt about it.

I absolutely don’t want to feel sorry for, because things are going in the right direction for me personal. I just wanted to share this.

So… Yesterday was a CTD fest. World Map, Loading to Plane, Inflight etc. I removed all add ons - and regular CTD

This morning… No CTD. I installed all my add ons - all working. Edit - the SIM has now frozen. After switching on the avionics master switch in the 172(G1000) - sounds are still playing but the graphics have frozen. Update.. rebooted and all working ok. Some slight stutter in world map but managed a full flight with all add ons installed. I’m convinced this is some form of network issue caused by mass downloads / flights - looks like it’s Xbox specific..

Lunch update. Maybe not what I thought. 2 CTDs in 10 minutes

I’m only posting this to help Asobo determine the cause @Jummivana - yesterday I’m guessing that the network traffic was severe - could there be an Xbox specific network timeout that causes CTD (they happened in multiple places in the SIM). It’s the only major change from yesterday.

After playing this sim for almost a year now, my findings:

1- CTDs are 99% of the time caused by mods in the community folder in my case (and the G1000 NXI when it’s not updated).

2- Internet connection speed and servers health are the most vital part of this sim…BY FAR.

CTD nearly every time I zoom on the world map, I have attempted 4 flights in the a320 and CTD every time. Most recently got stutters on the content manager which is really worrying. Every part of the sim from the loading screens when booting up to actually flying is full of stuttering. Needs a serious fix lol, full re-install in progress…

Did you know that Asobo was told that the ‘sand-Xbox’ that they developed on would be exactly the same as the console version? This appeared not to be the case, which had them pull their hairs as well. Who can say if all the xboxes, manufactured iver a period of some years still are exactly the same internally? How many xboxes from which batches should Asobo test the sim on to be sure that it’s stable for everyone?
They have to work with the information and hardware that they have. The rest can stabilize only with the help of us simmers. I see no other way.
This doesn’t mean that I don’t sympathize with your feelings here. I would be mad as well. Just pointing out a perspective from the other side.

For me, it’s all been good. First thing I did was check the MS Store, and there it was.

Easy and fast download and install, ditto the updated stuff in Content Manager. Even all my mods, which weren’t guaranteed for SU9, worked.

No differences in-sim as far as I can see yet, good or bad. Touch wood.

Still having the white circle and stutters, when not switching to dev mode. Also still stutters during takeoff and landing. Still not pre SU8 state, regarding smoothness.

That’s not accurate.

SU5 was released for both platforms on the very same day; otherwise they would have had to run against separate servers.

And SU5 did give much improved performance in terms of FPS on PC; the complaints were about downgraded visuals and some stuttering caused by culling. I think the dissatisfaction was greatest among those with high-end rigs, and most, if not all, of their complaints have been met by Asobo by now.

Personally, I believe that much of the frustration stemmed from belief in a silly widespread myth that Microsoft had decided that the PC version under no circumstances could be allowed to outperform the XBox version. But let’s not get there again!

This sounds like the same deluded mentality that perpetuated the idea for many years that consoles will catch up to PC’s and do all the things it can do.

Partially true to a degree since there are people successfully running this sim on lesser hardware over the Xbox but so way off in reality. It takes a pretty crazy system to make stuff for consoles which requires enormous power. Creating needs more energy than what it takes in energy needed to use its creation.

I have just opted out of the SU9 beta and installed the update, when I started the sim all my graphics settings had been reset to Ultra and VSync to 30. This has already happened when I updated from SU7 to SU8 beta, then when I was automatically thrown out of the beta as I hadn’t launched the sim in time and then again when I joined the SU9 beta and now again. I will backup my useropt file now but this is honestly slightly annoying.

Also I was greeted by the update screen with 120GB to download into the Appdata directory and had to manually reselect my MSFS content folder for the 3rd time.

It would be nice if a Microsoft product did this automatically on a Microsoft OS. =)

Well that explains so many things. We know that they don’t test on actual xboxes (they should but it’s clearly been confirmed they do not). If their xbox test kit has more RAM than a consumer xbox then it’s highly likely they won’t get OOM problems and will neither be able to reproduce nor debug it.

Of course, it’s possible that the xbox is running in a VM on a larger machine and that VM is appropriately spec’d as a real xbox, but if that was the case why can’t they find these problems themselves?

I’m also finding that SU9 works just fine, as did SU8. And the update went completely smoothly.

However, I always get a small stutter whenever I cross the threshold as I land in SU8/DX12. That’s unchanged, but irritating.

I tried to fly from (and to) somewhere in the US yesterday (Florida, I think) and it just didn’t load. I cancelled after waiting more than ten times as long as the time it takes to load a UK flight. Perhaps it was a server issue. I’ll try again soon, before the US wakes up.

Yes it got really bad.
Especially noticeable when panning around. I hadn’t had any issues prior to SU9.

I also realised that every time the screen flickers - which also was introduced by Sim Update 9 - my FPS begin to stutter.

I was wondering about this (expandable memory for Xbox Series X) I expect very unlikely though. I recall Windows used to offer a memory boost function utilising a USB stick for example. I imagine people more techie than me will tell me USB speeds made this pretty ineffective? Hardwired memory chips must run a heck of a lot faster.

Then there’s the hardrive expansion which is already available. Could this interface be used for anything else/could the expansion SSD be used as virtual memory?

Yes… same here

A USB flash stick would be useless, the built in SSD would be massively faster.

I don’t know if the xbox uses swap space on SSD, it wouldn’t surprise me if it did. Certainly it often stutters just before crashing, while sometimes it recovers and starts running again, that could correlate with swapping.

I’m sure there’s no hope of RAM expansions, these things are designed to a price and everything will be fixed, it costs a lot more to make things interchangeable.

Really the software needs to be fixed to not use more than is available. Simple but not that simple.

It really boggles the mind. What has fundamentally changed between updates? I mean, some supposed slightly nicer looking clouds has broken the menu. Personally in flight feels the same and looks the same, it’s not like I’m noticing a dramatic improvement to the graphics or even to the frame rate. It is insane that a menu taxes the hardware so much it just simply gives up sometimes, wow…just…wow. :man_facepalming:
